December is here. It's got some holidays in there but we're not here to talk about that. We're going to talk about The German Suplex

quote:

A suplex is an offensive move used in both professional and amateur wrestling. It is a throw that involves lifting the opponent and bridging or rolling to slam the opponent on their back.

Professional wrestling features many different varieties of suplexes. For a German Suplex, the wrestler stands behind the opponent, grabs them around their waist, lifts them up, and falls backwards while bridging his back and legs, slamming the opponent down to the mat shoulder and upper back first.

German Suplex discussion topics:
-Who does the best German Suplex?
-Which German Suplex is the greatest of all time?
-If you got in a fight do you think you could kill someone with a German Suplex?
-Would you rather take a German Suplex through a door or through light tubes?

here's two examples of the German Suplex to start the thread:

Tam Nakano with a bridging German Suplex pin

Konami with a leg trap German Suplex

(Mayu is really good at landing on her head and neck)

Burying all the trauma from past nights
Burying my anger in the past

I think that Benoit or Angle had really good germans. Is the release german the most dangerous version because you're basically throwing them backwards in the air and depending on how well you throw them, the suplexed has no way of controlling how they fall?

easily my favorite type of suplex. so many great variants and so many great users. a good deadlift German rules, a snap German like Tozawa does, a spider German, but I think perhaps my favorite is the Chaos Theory

Doug Williams is the first guy I ever saw do it, but Chad Gable has managed to hit some really, really slick ones whenever he's not too busy being Shorty G.

Benoit, Angle, and Lesnar are the guys I think of when it comes to German suplexes. I really liked Lesnar's before it just became his gimmick. Angle got a really good pop and height on guys. Benoit's were good because he just heaved a motherfucker over him, especially when Angle would flip over face first.

also love watching smaller dudes suplex big boys

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jihcvptetOM

Coming into these threads, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that the more potentially reckless the move, the more I like it and i will never apologize for it!!!

save a few for lefty too
I submit that Yoshihiro Takayama does the best german, and I don't think it is even particularly close. I think because of his height, it just makes the move look more high amplitude than it does with more compact, mat style guys (Benoit, Angle, Gable, etc), and then he hits a perfect bridging pin with it, which also just looks uncanny due to his bigness.

Takayama is an extremely good candidate. I don't know that I'd call him the best but I think Akira Tozawa is underrated; the speed and smoothness with which he busts them out makes them look incredible.

Yess. I guess this is why I like deadlift germans. It’s like

”I’m gonna suplex you dude”
”I don’t want to be suplexed what the hell”
”I’M GONNA SUPLEX YOU WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT”

Speaking of Gotch, he actually learned the move we know as the German Suplex from Finnish amateur wrestlers. It was called the "Finnish Overthrow" back then.

Rename it as the Finnish Suplex :colbert:

You usually need to give up the big heavy impact when you're doing a bridge so you don't spike your own head... but I guess just spiking your own head is also an option.
