"Ok so one side just wants basic human rights and the other wants that side eradicated from the face of the Earth. So I, an enlightened moderate, believe that we should only jail the first group forever. That way neither side gets what they want and it's equally fair for everyone!"

The best thing we can do for the poor, I think, is to inspire them to do whatever it is they need to do to get what they need. There are so many opportunities out there, but the problem is that there just isn't enough information as to how to seize them. For example, there are countless $5,000 scholarships distributed by every kind of corporation imaginable, from the Coca-Cola Company to McDonald's. Getting 20 of these scholarships will earn you $100,000, enough to cover admission to any public university in the country (in-state tuition, of course). If only the young people in our high schools knew about this, we could increase college attendance and eliminate student debt. Unfortunately, though, we trap our youth in a self-defeating mindset, that you need to come from money in order to go to school and get a good job.

see, the most successful people live under conditions where they are insulated from material scarcity, where they are incentivized to flourish rather than disciplined for being at a disadvantage, and this allows them to innovate. so, if you affect some kind of political ignorance, you should be able to run a lucrative startup that does regulatory arbitrage.

Being poor is just a state of mind. I'm incredibly successful at the age of 26 because I work hard, make smart financial choices, and play by the rules. We don't need policies that reward laziness, we need to reward hard work. When I bought my first property with my $1 million inheritance.....
