it got a ton of press for the all-cgi cast and because it was the first big blockbuster of the most recent 3d movie trend. half the people on the planet went to see it once for the novelty, and approximately no one saw it twice. the most baffling thing about avatar to me is that disney built an avatar theme park in 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrIxGWterYA
