Jagged Jim posted:Kanojo ni Naritai Kimi to Boku and Fukakai na Boku no Subete o are pretty good. (although the latter is kinda more non-binary than trans I guess) The latter also deals with trans issues and lesbian issues and is honestly pretty good about people across the spectrum.

Yuureitou, which I'm not linking because my bookmark on mangadex is dead, is much less good with its portrayals and is more pulp than anything but it's maybe my favorite manga focused on LGBT individuals. Lots of content warnings for abuse and gore and just about everything though. It's incredibly pulpy, and has both the good and the bad that comes from that. FtM and Transvestite MCs though which is kind of rare.

Kaja Rainbow posted:So, here is my transgender author effortpost! Unfortunately, I don't know of many if any stories from a transmaculine perspective. Those're all from a transfeminine perspective. Anyways, first I must note a few things. One, those stories tend to have a transgender main character who for some reason experience a body change to fit their gender. This is because, in essence, they are transgender wish fulfillment. Two, some of those stories don't shy away from sex and the ways transgender people relate to their own bodies. Three, they're written from the perspective of a minority that has to deal with a hostile world, and some of those stories aggressively wear their progressive politics on their sleeves. If you can deal with those things, read on.

for people wanting bl and similar some of this stuff is NSFW (renta is all smut ime) but like nothing wrong with that Everything Burrito posted:Futekiya has been adding some pretty good stuff so a sub is worth it imo, if you want to read BL. A lot of this stuff will probably not ever get a print release either.

And maybe cause im too tired of really god awful anime to find anything else? Mind you, its what ive seen. Im sure theres more but... like most seem to really solidly misrepresent or just create a lot of weirdness around the issue of queer characters. watch akanesasu shoujo

Craptacular! posted:I can only speak to wokeness as an outsider because I'm not as good of a trans ally as some other people are, but I can see some people being offended. You have to accept that this stuff is made for Japanese women who are often in toxic relationships with men who display misogynistic behaviors. It sucks for actual gays to see all this rape, but the intended audience is so is accustomed to a culture of men raping women, that men raping other men seems logical. If you're okay with things being 'problematic' sometimes, you'll be fine. As a trans ally, I'm going to be incredibly racist and claim an entire culture's het relationships are based around rape?? What??

I use queer a lot to refer to myself but like "smear the queer" is still a game that is played to this day. I know a lot of people in their twenties who were called that before being beaten up. nowadays people just use human being, but like acting like it hasn't been used as a slur relatively recently is just false.

My responses are probably too clumsy for discussing this topic (thanks perpetual anxiety and foot-in-mouth tendencies), and I don’t want to hurt people unintentionally please try not to worry too much about it, if you can. honestly the only way to figure this stuff out is usually through talking it out. it would be different if you were coming here with bad intent but like if somebody fucks up some terminology or asks a question that might be offensive you're not going to get run out of the thread just like don't describe every het relationship in japan as being basically rape and you'll be fine
