And when one comes out, they all come out!

The Littlest Twin In A Bottom makes a friend, and opts to solidify the friendship by growing a Mushroom Cap Cap. The tired old parent graciously accepts the worship of the fungal creatures - not a bad retirement plan!

Oh, another Shroomy Visitor! Perhaps it is a cousin of our heroes? It seems friendly enough, at any rate.

what a tragic beginning to the twins time in the world outside the nest. i believe it is their destiny to overthrow the mushroom tyrant that consumed their progenitor and lead the mushroom people into a golden age of liberty and prosperity. they're obviously in the market for a new leader with how quick they were to worship the BYOBeast

The Twins, born of ice and altitude and the razor talons of frost, exhale a gout of cryogenic mist that freezes their foe solid. The beast writes and squirms, but the weight of its meal holds it down. It falls limp, still shedding spores like snow.

But it is all too little, too late. Their sire is no more. What shall they do to honour their passing?

Fashion the slain beast into a commemorative statue of our fallen friend, amd freeze it in place

These are basically the same thing, only 1 involves using the killer of our parent to make a statue of our parent (oh and they magically freeze it so it's absolute zero but that's not a big deal, if it is there's always a training montage!)

What I'm saying is, this is totally what's going down right?

Onto the grisly business of Remembrance. First the killer must be disposed of. The Twins made short work of its flesh, consuming most of it to fuel their own evolution - and the give them strength for the anguish that lay before them. Their sire was badly gunked up and grody, so they opted to Clothe Them In The Flesh Of Their Killer, tucking and folding and tying it in place until it was a most crude facsimile of their beloved parent. Then, with heavy hearts, they froze it in place. A memorial of ice and loss to stand in this forest until the end times.

But not all was so grim. The mushroom folk were overjoyed at their saviors, lavishing them with praise and fine foods. Would that be enough to salve their grief?

In time, it was enough. The Twins remained in the Forest Of Questionable Mushrooms for a long time, living amongst the fungal people there. They never forgot the sacrifices of their sire, and they spread their legend far and wide. Eventually, the Friendly Sun found them once more, and though she was grief-stricken at the loss of her old friend, she beamed (literally) with pride to see their progeny take on a mentoring role.

This is as good a place as any to end the tale, but truly there are no real endings. Perhaps they lived on in peace forever, or perhaps they travelled on to further greatness. You will simply have to hold this snippet close to your heart, that it may keep you warm on these cold days. Goodbye for now!
