Peak Peyton IMO was when Irsay cried to get the rules changed to favor passing even more, then Peyton promptly threw 49 touchdowns in the regular season... and got eliminated in the playoffs 20-3.

yeah, they relied on Marino passing for basically the entire offense, and never got him much help

What really led to the changes that freed up offenses was Ricky Manning Jr and the rest of Carolina's defense talking up how the roughed up the Colts receivers during the 2003 season and the NFC teams in the playoffs.

Their offense was incredible for almost his entire tenure. They never got him a competent defense until he was old and busted.

Both of the Marks Brothers were good, Clayton might have been better.

If there was a problem it was they never found a good running back until Marino was at the end, and even when they did it was like 1 or 2 years of Karim Abdul-Jabbar. Wouldn't surprise me if they skimped on the OL too since Marino had that instant release that made him hard to sack, but I don't know/remember if that was actually the case.

His arm was just completely gone at the end, I remember him trying a hail mary from the 45 or so and not making it to the end zone.

Yeah, Marino knew he was toast he just never ever believed it until it was exposed in that game. He couldn’t even make a 15 yard out

That might have been the case by the end but his OL at the start of his career is thought to be one of the NFL's all-time best. The biggest problems seemed to be running back and defense, largely.
