If they want to have a 10 hour movie can they at least pay attention to their own story? The cops didn't see them disappear last week. When they were coming around us the viewers could just see the very last of the beam effect disappearing but from the cops pov they came around to the front of the vehicle guns drawn and it was just empty

My theory: Renee is not supposed to go on this mission. Picard's assumption that Q changed or is changing it is wrong. She's supposed to skip this one, get treatment, and go on a future mission that's the actual important one. The lesson Picard hasn't learned, that Q is mad at him for, is that going to space is not the solution to all his problems. As in season 1, also Borg are there for some reason

Megillah Gorilla posted:Yep, I'm convinced now that the scene with Q snapping his fingers at Renee Picard in the cafe is the very first scene in the series, timewise. What I'm going to say doesn't make actual sense but I think might be true: Q innocent, just like with the All Good Things anomaly. Picard is at fault and causes his own dark timeline by going back in time and forcing his ancestor to go to space with depression. Q shows up in the dark future mad at Picard for doing what he's about to do. Yes that doesn't really make any sense. But I just watched an episode where the only reason Spock didn't die at age seven is because he used the guardian of forever to go back in time and save his life from a lizard tiger. And he was time traveling with Kirk at the same time the guardian of forever showed the events on Vulcan, could not be in two places at once, and thus returned to a future where he did not exist. So he had to reason out that he originally went back in time and posed as his own cousin. It made no sense but at the same time made perfect sense. Why did Picard and crew go from exploding ship confronting the Borg to the Confederation? Well the Borg space vagina was full of chronotons or whatever, please allow the captain of the USS Bozeman to explain. Edit: Ahhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiit the sentient microbe Renee finds in Jupiter are Borg nano probes, she gets assimilated and is the queen from episode 1. The thing about Discovery no names bridge crew is over the four seasons I've learned their names, and most of them have had development, and the ones that haven't, their job is clear. But most of Discovery's core cast is people who don't work on the bridge. Stametz, Reno, Adira, Zora, Gray, Culber, Tilly, Book, none of them are bridge officers! But of the bridge officers Saru and Michael are really the only ones, plus whoever the captain is that year if not one of them. Of the others we've really gotten to know Detmer well, Owo not quite as well, Bryce less so still but has had a few moments, and Rhys the least. There are also two other ones that are basically glorified extras. And your comedy character Linus who basically only exists for a recurring gag. Overall though Discovery has a very large cast and a most of them have developed a lot. The ones that haven't are like fun recurring characters. None of them except the core core cast really started getting any development until late season 2 though. But when they added new ones in season 3 and 4 they were way better at it.

While the execution of the end of season 1 had some problems, like the giant identical fleets and Soji being ready to exterminate all organic life and there being no consequences for that, I actually quite liked the resolution of Picard showing them a better way and how they could coexist by talking to them and sacrificing his life. With his medical condition being advanced enough giving a speech was enough to take him out and he did it anyway, I like how Soji was convinced. I also like how they transferred Picard into a golem. He is still Picard to me because throughout all of Trek souls have been tangible and transferable. Spock's katra, Trill rituals, ship of the damned, even very silly examples like Rayo Vantika. It was messy and weird how literally any synth on that planet could still rebuild the beacon and activate it in hours if they want anytime if they're having a bad day or find out they have a lovely boufriend, they should have done something to destroy that knowledge(maybe it died with the Android Soong killed?). And it makes sense Soji would not be punished as part of the federation's deal to protect the planet and have positive diplomatic relations with the synths, but she should have at least apologized. And I liked the death scene for Data. The existence he was living, he got to choose to end his life with dignity. Maybe it depends on your feelings on euthanasia. I thought Rios had a well resolved plot of finding out the reasons behind the thing that disillusioned him from Starfleet and being able to heal after helping resolve it and atone for his covering it up. Raffi able to heal because she was completely vindicated in her beliefs about what happened on Mars. Raffi and Seven, I don't understand at all. I accept completely they are bi, they are both attractive and have compatible personalities so it makes sense they would get together in general, but they have almost completely zero scenes together in the whole series before that. And it's blocked like they've been together a long time. Hook them up absolutely but it should be a scene where they actually talk to each other. Jurati is really the only super major problem, she flat out murdered a guy. I can actually buy that was a result of mind meld psychosis or even an implanted command, but if they want to exonerate her character she should have actually been cleared on screen. Perhaps by Soong after the mind meld, who was close enough with him that he could believably say "from this scan it looks like the mind meld implanted a command in you, you had no control over your actions". Instead of simply implying it a year later. Also Elnor specifically mentioned he wanted to meet a cat! He should have met Spot 2!!!! I love my idiot Romulan ninja boy, he should get to pet a cat! I did not mind the handheld field replicator, that seems completely plausible for the tech level, though the way they described it like a green lantern ring was dumb. And the super Picard maneuver was also dumb and did not fit with the things function, and was completely unnecessary and just killed 30 seconds. But the super Picard maneuver was also inconsequential to the resolution of the story so it didn't really bother me either. But aside from all the problems with the finale I listed here, I still liked the broad strokes of the story and finale and really enjoyed it.

Killing Hugh super sucked, the guy had fully de-assimilated and seemed to have a pretty fulfilling life and he just gets killed for reasons I didn't mind. He was happy, he felt his life had fulfilled a good purpose, he helped the heroes accomplish what they needed. He didn't need to die but he went out gracefully and at peace. He knew he would probably be killed for what he was going to do to help Picard and gladly did it anyway.

Jurati is such a hot loving mess. Her and Borg Queen are so camp. Her walking towards the city reminded me of Jason walking towards New York in that one Friday the 13th movie, but her possessed and in that flowing dress also reminded me of Dana/Zuul in Ghostbusters. The musical number was so ridiculous, though I would buy a jazz band in 2024 would have that song ready to go. She is such an amazing gently caress up I kinda love her. Like the more mistakes and gently caress ups she does the more I actually like her, I didn't really like her at all in season 1.
