iirc he still has a warn quote after every encounter though???

I never played FFTA but I remember someone telling me that the game doesn't even have a proper ending, just that it kinda ends with the player being able to keep playing but the story itself doesn't wrap up. Is that true or was the person just making poo poo up?

Wouldn't this apply to guest/unique party members too or do they actually manage to leave?

nah the story ends properly. it's a little open ended but yknow. he may have misinterpreted one of the chapter endings idk.

as for uniques, they will also leave if their Faith gets too high (or Brave too low, i think Orlandu complains about getting too old for this poo poo for example and then leaves for ever). technically proper Guests won't ever leave your party either but 1) they can't be deployed in random encounters and 2) they won't appear in enough story missions to permanently increase their Faith high enough to trigger the disbanding event

In FFT, the Squire class gets two very important abilities (imo): JP Up and Throw Stone. JP Up is a multiplier to the JP earned by any action, and Throw Stone is a weak ranged attack with no cost. In the beginning of the game I usually spend several battles killing all the monsters except one, then throwing stones at my party members to gain a bunch of JP. You’ll wind up gaining abilities and classes a lot faster than if you were just focusing on finishing maps as quickly or efficiently as possible.

I’m a little bummed about this Warcraft 3 news because I never had a copy myself and only played bits at friends houses. It interested me but I’ve never been a major PC gamer. Now it looks like I’ll never be able to get the unadulterated version

>grinds with throw stone but not accumulate

even ignoring the obvious resource cost, accumulate also activates in fewer frames. also the correct way to do it is with a mediator/orator, or possibly an oracle with move-mp up, so you can Chicken the last man standing instead. but both options are honestly kind of poo poo because the accuracy sucks on the former and the latter has slightly better accuracy but without a ton of MP to spam their skills (which you won't have properly until you get advanced mage armor in ch3) oracles are basically dead weight options-wise

Is this going to be one of those games where I constantly have to be minmaxing or I’ll be obliterated

you won't need to min-max, you just need a mid-level understanding of the systems. which you won't get just by playing, you have to pay a lot of attention.

the best advice i can give you is that your Physical Attack and Magic Attack, the two really low numbers by the sword and staff on your status screen, are basically hard multipliers (and sometimes just straight up logarithmic) because they're so marginal. so, value equipment that increases Speed, PA or MA, and maybe Move (in that order) over HP and MP, if you want to succeed

i guess if you didn't get the best-best ending i could see people getting sour over that, because the setup presumes that if you DIDN'T play nice you're about to get liquefied, but i did my best so it was an ending of hope... for a badass sequel that is doomed never to exist :(

Weird grift if the end result is you dying in a rocket accident.

i mean, what's the quote they use in civ 4 for Rocketry? "the rule of thumb for the rocket enthusiast is, always assume it will explode" or whatever? he knew the risks going in--and i don't mean that in a "he brought this upon himself" kind of way; more, he accepted the risks of his hobby and enjoyed pursuing it anyway knowing that it could have, and has in the past, gone pear- or as the case may be pancake-shaped.

guy got to die doing the thing he loved. you might say "yeah but he's dead" but i say well if i got to choose, well i'd rather go doing an LD50 of thc than having a heart attack i tell you what
