E: winter is breaking where I live in Southern Canada. It's been 15C for the last few days and I want to break out the 911 for a rip. Problem is we have something like (no exaggeration) 80-100KPH+ winds with some regularity, seem to literally come up from nowhere. gently caress that - I'd rather not need to repaint my black car.

Jesus Christ i swear humanity is actively getting dumber. I just had an argument with someone online that because Dettol lists that it kills "Human Coronavirus" it means the new Novel Wuhan strain is actually man made and a conspiracy to actively kill off a large portion of the planets population.

Ignoring the fact that Human Coronavirus includes the SARS and Middle East respiratory syndrome strains and they've been known and identified since 2003 and 2012.

But noooooo, that cant be what Dettol are referring too on their packaging dated in 2019 at all...... gently caress me dead, we're doomed.

So does bleach, and it also kills the Aids virus.

People that have such a poor grasp of are usually beyond reasoning because they keep moving the goalpost to fit their world view regardless.

I think there's a large group of people that truly believe that they know, instead of doing intellectual analysis and viewing/processing evidence.

I have a ton more respect for a layperson, or anyone for that matter, that says "they don't know" and shrugs their shoulders than some other layperson that is sure they know when there is absolutely no way they do.

Its a testament to our society that people think with a weekend, or two, or even months on a computer and :google: they feel that they are literally more educated on a highly technical subject than specialists that have devoted quite literally, their entire professional lives on the same topic. The whole anti-vaxx movement is a textbook example of this.

So, got married this weekend. Kept it a secret from everyone but the officiant and the two friends who were witnesses.
Perfect day. +1 outside, light snow, had a little ceremony in a nice park. Went home, ate cake and had coffee, then ordered pizza for supper.
A+ would get married again.

Congrats!

Something to be said about getting married and not being thousands in debt right from the start.

Neither can. But look how goddamned stupid the DNC is. loving look at them. It's a clusterfuck. Bernie Sanders could be the goddamned savior, like political Jesus and they hate him so much that they're going to do everything they can to push him out again.
Speaking as a total outsider, they may or may not push out Bernie, but no way will zombie Hillary be back. Even they know that's a 100% guarantee of Trump Mk2. Hell, she has to know that too.

As common sense with a lot of things that Bernie is, legitimately or not, he freaks a lot of people out.

My build from December is a 9900K and carried over my 1080ti from when my 6700k mobo died. Chews through anything I throw at it. Wife is still running my multi year old hand me down of a 2500k and 780GTX which I just upgraded trouble free to Windows 10. Runs just fine and still has tons of life for what she uses it for.

Hell, my old laptop is an i7-5700HQ and 970M which is still great. It's amazing how much life you can get out of hardware now compared to 10 years ago.

I seem to recall an interview with some GM exec pimping the new Corvette saying it was designed from the get-go as a world car and would have RHD variants built in Bowling Green for Aus, NZ and UK markets. I presume that's dead now?

e: See at the end it still looks like it going to be built?

On a scale of 1-10 how bad of an idea would a 99 911 Cabriolet with a clean title but carfax shows salvage history, tiptronic trans, 50k miles and "the top doesn't fit good" if I could get it for 8 cash? They are asking more.

Run far away or run to the bank? You tell me.

Feel free to buy it, but I'd buy it with the plan to part it out. The motor alone (assuming it's not dead/dying) is worth more than that. You could easily make your money back in parts. Possibly triple if you were so inclined. Hell, you could probably get $1000-1500 for the *headlights*. I can't quite tell from the photo, but those might even be 993 18" twist rims which were offered in 99.

996 Cab w/tip is pretty much the least desirable 996 possible as a driver, with a Coupe 6spd being the most desirable. The only thing really going for it is that it's an early 996, the 98-99 production dates are pretty much universally regarded as the most reliable M96 out of the box. I probably wouldn't bother with doing the IMS in one at this stage unless I had the trans-axle dropped for other purposes anyhow.
I own a 99 996

One benefit with a pancake compressor, or something with a real air tank in general, is they are a bit more multipurpose. You can use it for something like an airbrush, hook a nozzle to it and blow/sweep with compressed air, or blowing out lines and the such. I actually blew out my irrigation lines with my crappy little one this fall.

Of course, if you just want it for tires and nothing else then one of those little dedicated jobs is probably fine if not speedy.

My wife had a reaction to the flu shot some years back, I think it was the one when there was the big swine flu scare. She had some tenderness around the injection site and some soreness with swollen lymph nodes.

We reported it to the health department (the asked for any abnormal side effects to be reported) but she was fine 2-3 days later IIRC.

She's had the shot every year since then with no side effects at all, so suppose just goes to say side effects can certainly vary from year to year.

Even so, the side effects are way better than getting a full onslaught of the flu.

Moral dilemma: Do I cash out my poo poo to save her bacon, or recommend a bankruptcy lawyer and pull the ripcord?

Some good news at least: she had surgery this afternoon and it only took 90 minutes for a total hip replacement. Doc said she'll probably go home tomorrow and be walking by next week.
I literally can't even imagine this discussion literally anywhere else on the planet except a truly third world country where the next sentence might be "I also need to protect my wife from the neighboring warlords from taking her away and dirtying our society"

As much as I go to the US and do US poo poo, this literally boggles my mind with you guys. Get your poo poo together on universal healthcare, for fucks sake.
