Hyperspace lanes are like mass relays from mass effect. No lane, no real way to travel there. It's quite likely that whatever generations of jedi that got left behind got nommed by flesh raiders or- worse- BECAME the Flesh Raiders. Like the majority of lore in SWTOR it looks stupid on the outset and gets almost-mostly explained in the codex entries that most people don't read.
