ive only had their smaller headsets and the only reason to upgrade is legitimate improvements in technology, heck i still use my old one as a spare in my work bag

I got both my plantronics headsets on ebay for like half price, there's tons of new ones people are dumping probably because their it department ordered too many

voyager focus: on ear but more comfortable, lighter, charging cradle, real boom mic, can go on either side, more fragile, wireless only, mic makes you look like a call center monkey
voyager 8200: over ear, better isolation, much heavier/bulkier but feels way more durable, can use 3.5mm in a pinch, inferior voice quality thanks to beamforming bs

if I had to pick one it'd be the focus but I'm not getting rid of my 8200 for one. there's the 4400 now which looks more modern but lacks noise cancellation

yesterday I was hanging out in the office kitchen getting some coffee and shooting the poo poo with my colleagues. we were talking about how some project is hosed and how the bosses are idiots and why our code is terrible. good times. then we came up with ideas to fix some of that, and made some decisions, and bitched about people that weren’t us.

not sure how you get that working remotely. if I wrote all that in chat some lame idiot would read it and become offended and it would be a whole thing.

management is right, you can not replicate it properly any other way

text has a fundamental disconnect from real interpersonal communication, and autists who think of interpersonal communication in the same way they think of text are always going to fail in those interpersonal situations because body language, judging the atmosphere etc, is an incredible subtle art that only some humans posses.

plus reality doesn’t record conversations like that unless they’re literally recorded. text conversations are the exact opposite, always recorded unless they’re definitely erased which is easier said than done often.

this is also why some dudes never score

office worker is in a cubicle farm, can’t host a video from their desk. they’d have to find an office to go yak with you about what a dipshit guy in other department is.

I can work remotely any (or all) time but go to the office every day so I don't go crazy from total social isolation and to use the gym and coffee machine. None of my team is located in this office so it makes no difference either way, but I wish we had more chances to interact face to face.

Having this possibility is great though and I use it whenever needed. Like now I'm working from another country because I'm visiting my grandfather for a week. Or when I extended my vacation and worked from the beach in Taiwan for a few days.

If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then he will do it that way.
I'd think travelling while working remote would be prohibitive due to the lovely wi-fi everywhere and time zone differences.

I think there's something calming about the routine of going to an office every day. I like working remotely and it's likely my job will transition to full remote within 12 months, but ill probably still just go into the office some days.

It's certainly a risk but you can always blame it on Skype being an rear end in a top hat again, and in my experience you can get decent 4G pretty much anywhere to have your own connection. Time differences can be to your advantage, I'd have pretty much the whole day to myself and work when all the touristy poo poo is closed.
