I'm dreading doing my viva over zoom, I'm awkward as hell over videocall. I find it really difficult to communicate effectively when I can't read body language etc properly, and that's going to go double if I'm trying to discuss relatively complicated concepts. Can't wait!

This - I prepared for my vivia by reading the introduction to my thesis and watching crash course youtube videos on my chosen field of study (which I found really useful for reminding me of basic concepts I hadn't thought about in years). You and me both! I've got mine set for this Easter weekend. On the plus side, at least we're not going to have to go through the rituals of being summoned to a place and experiencing all the dread and anticipation associated with that. I'm mostly just disappointed I won't be able to go out for a meal or social drinks afterwards.

An intelligent colleague who had an MSc in Quantity Surveying - in no way related to my field of study which was STEM (so his general quants ability was important) - did me the favour of reading my thesis (much of which was alien to him) and ask me some really fundamental questions - the sort of thing I blithely thought I understood and found erm.. well actually... - and this really sharpened my game!
