Yeah I left her off for the whole "turning a big dial taht says "Racism" on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right" thing, looks like I was right for other reasons too.

It's a bad idea to advertise that you have post-apocalypse riches. In a few weeks you'll have to fight off hordes of desperate goons waddling awkwardly into your house to steal your TP

I went tesco today and there was lots of toilet paper, but they were completely out of hand sanitizer, and also completely out of frozen mushrooms. The latter was far more annoying because I like to buy a big bag and use them in stuff across a couple of weeks.

When I went, there was plenty toilet paper left but the stock had clearly been massively depleted. The pasta was all gone except the weird expensive kinds though.

I seriously don't understand why Grayling keeps getting jobs. Yeah, he's probably friends with a bunch of policians, but surely May/Johnson/etc have friends who have only majorly hosed up one or two things. Does he have a load of blackmail material? Does Johnson want to look good by comparison?

It's not just a ban of direct flights, it's a ban of anyone who's set foot in a Bad Country in the last 14 days, so it's not just a case of flying from Paris to NY via Heathrow.

I didn't do that but I did try holding my breath during the underwater kissing scene, also impossible.

Blitzball level breath holding apparently needs practice, Yuna was training for it in Eternal Calm.

Yeah after he totally fucks this up it's still another four years to the election.

The media will be saying that it's rude to bring up mass death, and in any case the labour leader said "coronavirus" antisemitically.

The difference between 40 million people having the disease and everyone getting it is ~1-3 days depending on the infection rate, I hope everyone takes the eventual quarantine order seriously & immediately!

Has anyone in government, or any journalist, actually said "our plan is for 40m to be infected, the fatality rate is 1-5%, therefore we plan for between 400k and 2M deaths", or is it just left to the public to join the dots?

With the advice to self-isolate if you get a "continuous cough" does that mean like chain coughing or does it mean an occasional cough that lasts for a few days?

I'm not cheered by it. For the rich it's just Number Go Down but ultimately the reason it's fallen is that over the next few months hundreds of thousands, or millions, of people will lose their jobs as businesses collapse from lack of demand.

The 14 days if you live with someone is the incubation period to see if you become symptomatic so you don't go around spreading it, if you're already symptomatic there's no need for the longer period, they're saying 7 days for a minimum or just until you're asymptomatic. This is day 67 for me though & I'm still symptomatic, I'd feel a bit reluctant to just get up one day & say "welp yesterday I was a carrier but today I feel alright so I guess I'll just go kiss my perfectly healthy girlfriend".

How long would you folk give it?

Official advice is 7 days from when symptoms start or until your fever is gone, whichever is longer (the cough can persist after you're no longer infectious). I'd probably give it a couple more days to be safe.

Okay, interesting thought experiment time - what if there was a cure for COVID? Not a miracle cure, something with nasty side-effects that needs proper testing? Presumably governments would know about this, and I guarantee that the cowboys on either side of the Atlantic would *absolutely* put off lockdown as long as possible figuring if they can keep the death toll in the thousands or even tens of thousands while keeping the economy ticking over they'd look like absolute loving geniuses.

Then what if it turned out actually no, the cure isn't as effective as we thought, or the side effects are much worse, or we just don't have the ability to get enough of it out to stay ahead of the deaths? Wouldn't that then see them rapidly escalating lockdown (and Trump's fully-liquid brain continuing to babble about the cure)?

e: Actually if the cure was only available in limited quantities, you'd *definitely* see the rich who can get their hands on it telling everyone they need to get back to work to keep the number up.

I suppose, like all conspiracy theories, this is actually a desperate attempt to pretend that the people in charge are malicious rather than incompetent and negligent, because it's somehow comforting to think that someone wants you dead rather than is just too lazy to stop you dying. At least they're thinking about you.

Trump thinks that antimalarial medicine is a miracle cure, based off a chain email he read or something. So you could have your scenario with the people in charge being both malicious and incompetent
