I speedran the RLM video and I completely agree with the work print version being far inferior and not just because of requisite massive shifts in video quality. It was my first exposure to the film because the hype surrounding it saving the greatest horror film of all time or whatever marketing bullshit was strong and poisoned it for a decade or so. I’ll be honest it was long enough ago that I can’t remember specifics but the release cut has a far more cohesive tone and better pacing throughout. It’s likely more of an interesting footnote if you’re already a fan of the film but if absolutely do not start with it.
