OK here's the deal this poo poo is now a 1v1 and we're behind by a little but not out. This thread is for sharing your stories about volunteering, asking about volunteering, and encouraging goons to volunteer. For you who haven't yet done the volunteer work: look, I know it sounds hard. I'm an antisocial fatass just like everyone else here. I barely even do callouts on Overwatch. But last December I signed up to do some stuff that made me anxious as all hell cause I want Bernie to win. The poo poo they asked me to do was nuts. Cold calling people in the midwest? Knocking on some rando's door? Talking about politics with my friends and family?? But yeah I fuckin did it. And I got Berno about 10 votes that I know of personally. Felt so much better than just reading D&D threads and worrying like I did in 2016 Now here's the loving deal you fucks. Only like 18 states have voted. That means there's 32 left. You want that good feeling? Get the gently caress on this train right now. And here's a bonus you get that I didn't get. You get to tell people who were going to vote for Warren to get on the loving train too. We're gonna call New York! And Detroit! And Phoenix! And Seattle! And Chicago! And other places! WAAAAAAAAAUGH! I want stories about volunteering. I've got a few. I convinced a Trump voter to go for Bernie in Iowa! I got a Warren voter to change her mind *on the way to the poll* this Tuesday! I convinced my boomer parents to vote for a socialist! Look, this poo poo seems hard until you do it. Now I'm a pro. Give me a pamphlet and I'll come to your house and bang on your door until you come out to talk to me about why communism is the only way now. I'm really socially anxious and after canvassing once I got the training to host and have been canvassing in very conservative Eastern Washington. In doing so I've met a lot of really cool people, convinced a lot of undecideds to feel the Bern, and the worst rejection I've gotten has either been "no, we're republicans now" or "no never that guy". Because I go with my 4 year old, we don't always get the full 50 done, but every time we've changed at least one person's mind and everybody is surprised that anybody is canvassing in this area. I was also nervous about a large Spanish population and my inability to speak Spanish, but even that has been a very surmountable obstacle, as showing Bernie's picture has produced warm reactions in spite of my inability to communicate verbally. Go knock doors, text, or phone for Bernie! always be closing. you need to reach people at a high rate at this stage in the primary let the people talk more than you do -- the ideal conversation is one where you are purely phatic and nudging and they persuade themselves within about two minutes err on the side of interpreting people's actions as being as receptive as possible; i.e. someone who doesn't explicitly say "do not contact me again" is just a "not home" or "didn't answer" -- you might have not got your targeted person anyway I've got super lucky and been able to use my crap mandarin to convert people that other campaigners told me were hostile. It paid off measuring my own anticipation of risk and just going for it. I shocked some people who could not credit the idea of universal healthcare being anything but massive queues and limited supplies by showing them some bernie campaign data. I got a guy who didn't even know what a primary was, or who bernie was, or that there was an election this year, to register and commit. One thing that pisses me off about online is people not realizing how many people are in grinding poverty with ancillary health problems. I understand that the Bernie campaign is targeting these people unlike any other campaign. The biggest obstacle once they are talking to you is that the stuff on offer seems too good to be true. Then you just need to talk about walmart's internal planned economy (bigger than most countries? bigger than spain or belgium), other countries, and bernie's achievements

Crossposting some stuff I posted in other threads in the hopes that those of you who volunteer will use it. We need to spend the next 5 days hammering Joe Biden’s voting record into Michigan and Washington voters’ heads. Cuz if we don’t remind every single voter in every state that Biden fuckin loves/loved segregation at least 3 times an hour every hour until every states’ primary, then maybe Bernie deserves to lose. And by “we” I mean Bernie’s campaign media team and all of you reading this (and myself). In fact, if any of y’all know anybody in Bernie’s campaign (or in any group that supports Bernie) that does TV ads, then y’all need to tell them to push Biden’s voting record and segregation poo poo HARD! AS! gently caress! in attack ads over the next few weeks or longer. Also a reminder that attack ads are best made and put out by 3rd-party groups that aren’t directly affiliated with the Bernie campaign itself, since a whoooooole lot of voters (my dad included) are turned off by political attack ads of any kind from anyone, even a candidate they support. A lot of people in Florida are probably early voting right now, too. Remember that Florida is CHOCK FULL of old people. Push the “Biden loves segregation and hates your social security” poo poo to EVERYONE, and I mean REALLY hammer that poo poo into their skulls, and give coronavirus to anyone who still wants to vote Biden after that. Next week should be enough time for it to start showing symptoms. don’t actually infect people with diseases, you psycho If you’re doing texting, phone-banking, or canvassing for Bernie in Florida right now, there’s pretty much no excuse for you to NOT be pushing anti-Biden poo poo to everyone you talk to. What kind of working knowledge would I need if I wanted to canvas, or phone bank? I want to help but I'm afraid I just don't know enough about Bernies policies or how they fit in the big picture to really argue for them in any detail. I support and can champion many of Bernies policies from an emotional standpoint, but I have trouble backing them up when it comes to the logistics due to issues with memory recall. Is this a valid fear? Is my answer to just do my research and get a clearer understanding of his issues? Are there other ways to help out that I'm not thinking of?

i really want to phone bank or canvas before i gently caress back off overseas but ive been stymied in these efforts by the fact that i dont have a working smart phone which frustrates me to no end because even though im right in vancouver right now everything ive read about these volunteer events seems to say i need one or else i cant even bother i would love nothing more than to gently caress off to one of these events and get to work but without a smart phone or car it just doesnt seem like its possible for me to actually do anything man i just wish i could call whoevers in charge around here and see if gadgets are actually as important as the websites making them sound

Dude if you can talk about why you want Bernie to win honestly with a personal story that's all you need. If someone ever asks you 'but what specifically about the policy' you can direct them to the website, or to info@ (the universal bernie email) and they can get very specific answers. But nobody you canvass or phonebank is gonna ask that. You're all good! If you know he's for medicare for all, student debt forgiveness, taxing the rich fucks, etc then you're golden. You're spreading the word. Hell, maybe you're just telling people who already are voting Bernie that election day is next week! Last Saturday during canvassing I caught a supporter who had spaced out that it was Super Tuesday in three days. She was like 'oh gently caress, thank god you came by my house' What I'm saying is your fears are understandable, jesus I had them when I started calling Iowa on day one, but the organization is massive, experienced, and the people are wicked cool. While you're on phonedesk you're also in a chat channel with all the other bernie volunteers. And you've got people who been there for months doing this poo poo. Join us bro! No research required! The website you get dropped into will run on VOIP if you can't use a phone line. Also! If you have a regular as poo poo phone with no smart phone parts, that is to say, a traditional bell telephone, you can still use it to phonebank! Just you need the computer to access the script and log the gently caress in. So if you don't have a smartphone, you must have posted this from a computer. What I'm saying is join the phonebank crew! gently caress yeah!

its a hotel computer unfortunately and my proprietary notebook charger is hosed and im on my way out of the country since i dont actually live here right now i remember doing the literal obama phonebank in 2008 and also hilary canvassing in 2016 and was caught off guard by how digitized everything is now in this country i no longer live in i really regret being complacent and not preparing for this better people who dont share my bizarre lifestyle choices please dont make excuses because i feel like poo poo right now and youre gonna feel like poo poo too if you dont do anything

Where possible, they will pair you up (for liability, confidence, error-checking reasons) and chances are most other people have a car and a smartphone. Let the organizers know when you arrive that you are going to be the person carrying the clipboard or the literature for someone because you have neither car nor phone and they can almost certainly accommodate you gratefully. You are yet another motivated warm body turning up on doorsteps with your own reasons for supporting Bernie. Biden can't match that. And you'll be on there with hundreds and even thousands at times. And if you need a hand you can DM me cause I'm totally in there and I've run several phonebanks. I'm a loving pro and soon you'll be too! Get loving in! We got you

So glad to have you on board! We don't have an invite system unless you're looking to get next level (Victory Captain!) - the campaign is just happy to get any volunteers onboarded quickly. What you should do is go to https://berniesanders.com/volunteer/ and click on 'Make Calls' - you'll get walked through signing up and given a rundown of how to get started. When you phonebank you can just do it by yourself for a shift, or you can attend someone's phonebank meeting, or you can even (pro mode) host your own with locals. I'd suggest starting with a shift by yourself to try it out. All you'll need is your computer and a landline phone, if you don't have a cell or a headset. I think once you sign up you'll get the tutorial links, access to call scripts you can look over, and a link to join the Bernie Slack. Feel free to use this thread to report back, ask questions of us, and of course PM me for specifics. I'm like, real happy if we get you to do some phonebanks. I'm hosting one tomorrow. This is it for us... make or break time!

Phone banked a few times before and it was extremely rewarding to be around other supporters, and to talk to individuals and change a couple people's minds. It's very easy to do in groups (preferable) or on your own, swallow your misgivings or anxieties and get Bernie elected!

Most undecided voters are astoundingly stupid people, who want to think they’re actually smart and CRAVE validation of their (possibly non-existent) intelligence. My point is it helps to stroke some voters’ egos a little when you’re talking to them. Some voters are wise to that kind of poo poo and get put off by it, but others absolutely eat it up. A lot of unemployed housewives and stay-at-home moms love this. People who are bored all day long and feel insecure or inadequate because they don’t have careers of their own (like me  ) need that kind of validation, and a little ego-stroking can go a long way.

Hell yes, great thread. Been sitting in texting queue all day, no texts for me yet. That's kind of awesome really, there are so many people doing texting today! I'll get my shot at some point. Another point for Bernie's electability is that Independents are a much larger proportion of the general electorate than the primary electorate. Bernie is the longest serving Independent in Congress and consistently has the highest favorability among Independents. Biden's record on trade, social security, etc. is a huge liability in swing states just like it was for Hillary.Code Jockey posted:Hell yes, great thread.
