OK here's the deal this poo poo is now a 1v1 and we're behind by a little but not out. This thread is for sharing your stories about volunteering, asking about volunteering, and encouraging goons to volunteer.

For you who haven't yet done the volunteer work: look, I know it sounds hard. I'm an antisocial fatass just like everyone else here. I barely even do callouts on Overwatch. But last December I signed up to do some stuff that made me anxious as all hell cause I want Bernie to win. The poo poo they asked me to do was nuts. Cold calling people in the midwest? Knocking on some rando's door? Talking about politics with my friends and family??

But yeah I fuckin did it. And I got Berno about 10 votes that I know of personally. Felt so much better than just reading D&D threads and worrying like I did in 2016

Now here's the loving deal you fucks. Only like 18 states have voted. That means there's 32 left. You want that good feeling? Get the gently caress on this train right now. And here's a bonus you get that I didn't get. You get to tell people who were going to vote for Warren to get on the loving train too. We're gonna call New York! And Detroit! And Phoenix! And Seattle! And Chicago! And other places! WAAAAAAAAAUGH!

I want stories about volunteering. I've got a few. I convinced a Trump voter to go for Bernie in Iowa! I got a Warren voter to change her mind *on the way to the poll* this Tuesday! I convinced my boomer parents to vote for a socialist! Look, this poo poo seems hard until you do it. Now I'm a pro. Give me a pamphlet and I'll come to your house and bang on your door until you come out to talk to me about why communism is the only way now. Volunteering loving rules and you should all be doing it.

My personal goal for this thread is to get someone to volunteer because of the thread.

Oh here - you'll need this https://berniesanders.com/volunteer/ - or message me, cause I know campaign workers

For those of you who are volunteering, it would help for you to remind voters that nobody will vote for a Democratic candidate if they’re the same as the Republican candidate. Therefore, we need to vote for a Democrat who is DIFFERENT from the Republican.

Voting for a centrist like Joe Biden WON’T make Republicans vote Democrat.

Voting for a centrist like Joe Biden WILL, instead, make Democrats not vote at all. In large numbers!

Republicans will NEVER vote Democrat! There is NO POINT WHATSOEVER in wasting our time trying to change their minds!

NOBODY is going to vote for a Democrat that will do the same poo poo Trump does, when they can just vote for Trump instead!

Therefore, if you want to beat Trump, then you’d better vote for Bernie Sanders!

Both the Bernie dialler and the Bernie texter are web based platforms. Even if you're overseas and can't make international calls or texts you can still use them.

For the Bernie dialler just input your country code or any number for your phone, login as instructed and let the page access your microphone. Even if you can't make any of the training webinars there are resources and a slack link at berniesanders.com/call (also the place you go to login to call people!)

Texting is volunteering on easy mode and I super endorse it!

This is perfect info for new volunteers. You really just listen to them talk. The Trump lady from Iowa who decided to vote for Bernie? I let her just rant for 10 minutes. An occasional 'hmm mhmm' and 'oh yeah?' from me. That's it. At the end she told me I was so polite and she really was suprised I didn't argue with her about the Prez. I was like 'nah that's not why I'm here, I just want people to vote for my guy' and she agreed. It's like magic, this listening thing.

Honestly their mantra of 'don't argue' is freeing. Most of everyone on here I think (including me) envisioned going out and trying to argue people into going for Berno. You just don't. You sit quietly and maybe tell them you're voting cause you'd really like to stop paying your ex-wife's student loans. And also you spent 5 G's on medical expenses last year even with your insurance policy.

poo poo works guys. poo poo. Works.

What kind of working knowledge would I need if I wanted to canvas, or phone bank? I want to help but I'm afraid I just don't know enough about Bernies policies or how they fit in the big picture to really argue for them in any detail. I support and can champion many of Bernies policies from an emotional standpoint, but I have trouble backing them up when it comes to the logistics due to issues with memory recall. Is this a valid fear? Is my answer to just do my research and get a clearer understanding of his issues? Are there other ways to help out that I'm not thinking of?

Dude if you can talk about why you want Bernie to win honestly with a personal story that's all you need. If someone ever asks you 'but what specifically about the policy' you can direct them to the website, or to info@ (the universal bernie email) and they can get very specific answers. But nobody you canvass or phonebank is gonna ask that. You're all good! If you know he's for medicare for all, student debt forgiveness, taxing the rich fucks, etc then you're golden. You're spreading the word. Hell, maybe you're just telling people who already are voting Bernie that election day is next week! Last Saturday during canvassing I caught a supporter who had spaced out that it was Super Tuesday in three days. She was like 'oh gently caress, thank god you came by my house'

What I'm saying is your fears are understandable, jesus I had them when I started calling Iowa on day one, but the organization is massive, experienced, and the people are wicked cool. While you're on phonedesk you're also in a chat channel with all the other bernie volunteers. And you've got people who been there for months doing this poo poo. Join us bro! No research required! Jump in and we'll get you all in. It's fuckin great!

i would love nothing more than to gently caress off to one of these events and get to work but without a smart phone or car it just doesnt seem like its possible for me to actually do anything man i just wish i could call whoevers in charge around here and see if gadgets are actually as important as the websites making them sound

You can in fact do phonebanking from your computer as long as you have a microphone and (ideally) headphones! The website you get dropped into will run on VOIP if you can't use a phone line. Also! If you have a regular as poo poo phone with no smart phone parts, that is to say, a traditional bell telephone, you can still use it to phonebank! Just you need the computer to access the script and log the gently caress in.

So if you don't have a smartphone, you must have posted this from a computer. What I'm saying is join the phonebank crew! gently caress yeah!

You'd be signed in to the phonebank website to actually make calls over VOIP .. it will even give you a script walk you through the call and call the next person automatically

It's a great system and so easy to use. And you'll be on there with hundreds and even thousands at times. And if you need a hand you can DM me cause I'm totally in there and I've run several phonebanks. I'm a loving pro and soon you'll be too!

Amazing! So glad to have you on board! We don't have an invite system unless you're looking to get next level (Victory Captain!) - the campaign is just happy to get any volunteers onboarded quickly.

What you should do is go to https://berniesanders.com/volunteer/ and click on 'Make Calls' - you'll get walked through signing up and given a rundown of how to get started. When you phonebank you can just do it by yourself for a shift, or you can attend someone's phonebank meeting, or you can even (pro mode) host your own with locals. I'd suggest starting with a shift by yourself to try it out. All you'll need is your computer and a landline phone, if you don't have a cell or a headset.

I think once you sign up you'll get the tutorial links, access to call scripts you can look over, and a link to join the Bernie Slack. Feel free to use this thread to report back, ask questions of us, and of course PM me for specifics.

I'm like, real happy if we get you to do some phonebanks. I'm hosting one tomorrow. This is it for us... make or break time!

is there any sensible way to "profile" people when phonebanking? I know I want to kneejerk bring up Biden + NAFTA at every opportunity in michigan, but it might not persuade affluent people

Yeah agreed, ask what their big issue is. Honestly, no matter what they answer you can be like "Bernie is great on this thing" because, well, Bernie is great on just about everything.

If you ask them if they're for B dog and they're like nah maybe Joe then you can be like 'what is it about Joe' or 'what issue is the reason' and then once again bring it back to Bernie.

Basically ABB

Always Be Bernie-ing

"Oh yeah? Did you know Bernie voted against NAFTA?"

As for guessing what they want, just listen to them. All you're doing is planting seeds. If they never mention NAFTA but they say beating Trump is a big deal, you can point to the Head to Head polls. Hell, at this point, you could point to 2016. Cause Joe's a less inspiring Hillary. "I think doing something different against Trump this time is the only way we win. That's why I'm making these calls to your state for Bernie Sanders. We need someone who voted against NAFTA. Someone working for 15 dollar minimum wage for Michigan workers. Someone endorsed by all the unions. Someone trying to get everyone Medicare. There's only one candidate in the race doing all that, and we need your support to get him in the White House!"

I've definitely talked with voters about how scared I was of Joe getting the nom, because I don't know if he can beat Trump. But I know for sure that Bernie's groundswell of support will get out the vote in November. You can do that too.

Yay volunteering!

I think that's a "Refused"

Yeah it's a refused. If they aint gonna vote they aint gonna vote. Move on and find the people who are gonna vote, so we can get them targeted for GOTV or get them off our lists cause they'll never vote bernie.

I mean, in real life you’re not gonna lay it on that thick or sound like you’re insulting people.

My point is it helps to stroke some voters’ egos a little when you’re talking to them. Some voters are wise to that kind of poo poo and get put off by it, but others absolutely eat it up. A lot of unemployed housewives and stay-at-home moms love this. People who are bored all day long and feel insecure or inadequate because they don’t have careers of their own (like me :smithicide:) need that kind of validation, and a little ego-stroking can go a long way.

I hear you and I hope you get that career you're looking for if you want it!

Another point for Bernie's electability is that Independents are a much larger proportion of the general electorate than the primary electorate. Bernie is the longest serving Independent in Congress and consistently has the highest favorability among Independents. Biden's record on trade, social security, etc. is a huge liability in swing states just like it was for Hillary.

We're probably gonna be perpetually understaffed on phonebanking and overstaffed on texting. I would highly recommend taking the training class and signing up for a shift - just an hour to start and go from there. I have call center experience so I'm numb to this somewhat, but I know basically everyone in our generation is anxious about phone calls since we've all been texting for 15 years. If you're phonebanking alone from home, there's nothing wrong with a bit of liquid courage to take the edge off. Phonebanking now is short conversations getting Bernie supporters committed to vote and swaying undecideds so your average call is gonna be a couple minutes or less. If you aren't in or near one of the states voting next Tuesday and canvassing isn't an option, phonebanking is the best use of your time. Getting callers who support Bernie or whose whole families are voting for him is a great shot in the arm to keep you going. The first few calls will be awkward but you'll find your rhythm quickly.

That's totally true, Bernie gets non-voters to vote. That's his whole thing. Hell. He got a non-volunteer in me to volunteer. And phonebanking is so cool, because you probably think about Bernie all day but you don't talk about Bernie all day. And there you are, telling some random person why you think he's the best ever.
