i am currently reinstalling windows because I tried enabling HDR so i could watch UHD movies on my TV and now it refuses to output video even after trying system restore and it's near impossible to make it boot into safe mode when you're flying blind.

computers are definitely not my friend, especially not windows computers. no wonder why windows 10 is still free.

seriouspost , Doug Engelbart's mother of all demos has everything , everything after that is just building on those fundamentally different ideas of computer interaction, it's definitely the fundamental shift that was needed.

If the MOAD is too broad, then my next answer would be hypertext

without others first inventing the concept of interactive use of a computer, Engelbart couldn’t have come up with the stuff shown in the mother of all demos

interactivity was a huge deal, computers were batch only at first, and even the first minicomputers were designed initially for batch work

it was hardware hacks at universities to hook up telegraph equipment for direct I/O that led to the sea change that was quickly followed by the invention of time-sharing
