I must be the most naive chump in the world because I assumed the talk of China hiding their rona numbers was partly saying "China is mistreating its people" and partly saying "We can't be sure that China's methods would be effective here, because we can't even be sure they've been effective there." Had the displeasure of meeting Boris Johnson at a charity do once. He was surprisingly out of touch, and VERY unfunny. Anyway yeah given that it's the PM and he's a rich tory at that, one can assume he can call on the best medical care possible. If it was just "tests" I have to think they'd do everything possible at home, which is eminently possible if it's drawing blood, taking a nasal swab, etc. as far as I know, but if he needs like a CT scan of his lungs or whatever then I think that's hospital gear only. Even so that much would be a short trip (And you'd imagine they'd prioritize him so he gets a slot ASAP, either because he's the PM or because you want the oval office out of your hospital immediately). IANAD so this is all pure conjecture and speculation. I'll put it this way, I won't be surprised if tomorrow he comes home and is fine, but I also won't be surprised if the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland actually carks it from rona. And shortly thereafter I would cark it from laughing too hard.

Britain remains divided into utterly irreconcilable camps. On one side, those who think Boris Johnson died of rona, and that this was very funny. On the other, those who think he died of rona, and this was a terrible tragedy and the first lot are ghoulish monsters. On the third side, those who think he did die but was assassinated by Corbyintes/Corbyn himself/Carrie Symonds/Russia/etc.. On the fourth side, those who think he didn't die, his death was faked, and he's relaxing in the same island paradise as Jeffrey Epstein. e; Forgot the crowd who think he died of 5G.

Also I did like how Matt Damon's guy was immune and the authorities were like "That's cool but it's not actually all that useful to us, we've got your blood and stuff but this isn't really the angle through which a vaccine or cure is actually most likely to be fruitful, go home." Also also what was the end result, like 2 and a half million dead in America, ten times that globally by the time the vaccine rolls out? That's the least believable part of all, looking at our current shitshow something with a 33% CFR would kill a billion people before that point lmao

Given that he's worsened over the afternoon and he's already had symptoms for 10 days, he's following that progression. Like 50/50 the PM is gonna die of this, holy poo poo Yeah there's no guarantees at this point, either to the good or the ill (Regardless of which way round you think those are, lol). Also he's obviously been having trouble since last night so was already receiving some care in hospital, that it hasn't taken and he's instead been upgraded to the ICU doesn't bode well for him. His age isn't quite at the Big Risk levels yet but his general health works heavily against him because he's a tubby fucker with a drinking problem and probably drug habits atop that. He might pull through but him not (yet) being on a ventilator doesn't seem at this stage to indicate anything much. Idk what the specifics of their situation are so I'm not saying it is necessary/should be done, I am just wondering. If so though, might be worth asking for a bit of help if you want to get something more powerful? Idk just a thought.

These people are constantly making memes of Karens, showing culturally and sartorially inferior women asking for the manager and generally making a fuss about everything. Which is hilariously ironic given that ‘Karen’-like behaviour – snitching to management, trying to get people sacked, moaning endlessly about every inconvenience – is the stock-in-trade of woke millennials. These Karen-bashers are the biggest Karens of all. Furthermore I believe Karethage must be destroyed.

OwlFancier posted:Ultimately for all the platitudes about how people didn't realise what was really essential, I don't think it's going to change. Because people don't want to grapple with actually understanding what essential work means. They don't want to think the world is maintained by people who work for basic subsistence, they certainly don't want to deal with any of the consequences of empowering or even rewarding those people appropriately. Even the stuff that is pointing out "Uh hey some people we're treating like garbo are actually really important" are serving to divert the ire from where it should be. Freedland's article is a prime example: He's banging on about how we don't "need" sports and movie stars. Well, yeah, not many people are going to say they're really in need of all that money and stuff, but hardly anyone in the entertainment world at large is commanding that kind of money, relatively speaking. Sure, you've got a tiny cadre of people like Neymar or Messi or Tom Cruise or RDJ - but they're a very small group in comparison to the huge numbers of people in the lower leagues, or the people who can't pick and choose their acting roles, and so on. Which isn't to say something oughtn't to be done about massive pay for that elite cadre but talking about them in this context is to redirect people's discontent away from the people who command true wealth and power - the government, the corporations, and the billionaires, people who can lose Messi's annual pay packet and not even be aware of it, people like Mike Bloomberg who can piss away orders of magnitude more money than the average celeb will ever see on a vanity Presidential bid and not have it impact his wealth because it's such a pissant sum next to his investments and interest. Even if he spent that amount every year for the rest of his life, and had no further income whatsoever, he'd run out of life decades before he ran out of money. (Jeff Bezos has well over twice as much money as Bloomberg does lmao)
