It's beautiful. And it's for the god of...of...arts and crafts. I think that's what he said.
I've been working overtime and then some for the past couple weeks. When I go home, I sometimes get paralyzed with what to do to pass time. Then I get anxiety that I'm wasting time with either doing nothing or something not fun.

Animal Crossing is nice for a couple hours. Maybe I'll try creative writing of a tabletop campaign or something to keep my head out of this weird reality.

she / her family at risk or is it just anxiety? at this point all you can do it minimize contact and hope for the best, if she needs something to do to feel like she's helping there's probably a mutual aid group in your area that will need volunteers/info/money

We're both juggling WFH and a 4 month old. The anxiety part is something worth exploring however, thanks

So surely the CFR has to go down somewhat as doctors get more experience and gain better treatments right? Even in the old thread doctors were posting that they were having good results with certain therapies (IL6? I don't know what any of these mean) and while obviously they're not silver bullets there likely will be other therapies too that will together at least reduce the death rate?

No because this will be countered by americas dogshit health care system being completely overwhelmed and americans being the least insured and least healthy people in the first world

sorry for the bad vibes

They're just throwing random poo poo at it right now so I wouldn't hold my breath, but if any of the actual trials for stuff like the BCG vaccine or hydroxychloroquine get good results it might change.

to be fair we do actually have more ICU beds per capita than any other nation, even if we have a lower total number of hospital beds. who knows if that will counter the other factors though

Seattle region reported it's down to 1.4 or so I think? so yeah as peak is passed and EDs tool up to fight it and get experience with the disease it'll drop

volunteering brain or physical power to food banks or homeless shelters are good, will involve some risk (CSA less, homeless outreach more) but this isn't going to be stopping soon so it may be worth looking into what is going on just in case it's something to do later

most food banks aren't closing down and stuffing boxes is something that can be done safely, and if she has a mind for logistics she'll go a long way

IL6 isn't the treatment. IL6 mediates inflammation and may be involved in the "cytokine storm" that kills people later in the disease. The treatment is an anti-IL6 monoclonal antibody but even if that works it wouldn't be good to give it too early and it's probably hard to decide who to give it to. Plus I don't know how much hospitals actually have lying around in the first place (I guess it's a treatment for arthritis but I think monoclonal antibodies are pretty expensive in general?).
