I mean media does this all the time. Introduce a character that you loving loathe, but over time does things that make the audience love them more and more until by the end you're actively rooting for this guy you hated at the start. It's slightly different in that you're playing as this character for half the game but it's the same concept, and we're missing hours and hours of story and gameplay that will probably show Abby in a better light. I think the main issue is: is this really a story that needed to be told? I liked the sort of ambiguous ending the 1st one had and dont really think they needed to revisit these characters, especially if they're going to give one of them the Andrew Ryan treatment

tbf them sending Joel out to die as soon as he starts protesting probably didn't help his mental state much. he didn't have to go on a rampage but it literally became a matter of life or death for him after they started escorting him out of the building without any supplies edit: oh I rewatched it and the fireflies literally introduce themselves to Joel by threatening him at gunpoint and knocking him out while he was trying to give CPR to Ellie lol these guys deserved to die

this is probably how things will go down -Abby and friends kill Joel and beat Ellie -next couple chapters show Abby and her friends and expand on their character a bit, humanise them and show that they're probably decent people(as decent as you can be to survive the apocalypse) and may even regret what they've just done -Ellie starts killing them one by one Predator style and Abby becomes more and more unhinged as her friends drop like flies around her -Abby does the 2 on 1 beatdown and is ready to cut a pregnant bitch up

Abby and friends are beating Joel in a separate room away from everyone else, and Ellie barges in just in time to see the final blow

its a mixture between a really dumb feature that some poor programmer probably missed his kid's birthday to implement, the fact that the marketing materials are pushing this one specific feature really hard, and while this is just personal preference, dog enemies suck in video games they're very annoying even though dogs irl are the best
