Recently I read Finnegans Wake in Portuguese and its accompanied translation notes and they were really interesting, it felt nice to compare it and contrast with the original. Finnegans Wake is a good work if you're looking forward to have something to occupy your brain for years. Speaking of Portuguese, if you are willing to read some more curious stuff that people generally gloss over, I like the works of Vilém Flusser. He's a philosopher born in Czechoslovakia who moved to Brazil to move away from the Nazi occupation. He wrote in many languages, but the bulk of his work is in Portuguese and German, although there are some stuff in English and French that could be a good start. Vilém wrote a lot of things that are somewhat hard to translate (some of which are about the philosophy of language), so if you speak any of those languages you might have a field day. I don't agree with a lot of the things he says but they tend to be thought-provoking, especially the things that make you think about the relationship between individual words, concepts and languages as a whole.
