Yeah it does cool down overnight which is key. It breaks here on wed with some rain and then cooler after.

Also Trump had riot police attack a bunch of protesters so he could go do a photo op at a church. Yikes. I watched the whole of the wire and didn't realise stringer bell was english in stark comparison to McNulty who kept slipping back into an english accent.

Both are acceptable modes of being of course and not necessarily mutually exclusive, just an interesting disparity which I suppose must be either Brit or Yank propaganda It's definitely american. I remember when I first got on the internet I really noticed it (around 9/11 and the freedom fries bollocks).

Watching people discuss the little britain/blackface thing on my football forum reminds me of being on the internet for the very first time. The exact same thing 15 years ago. It's very weird actually. That being said nobody has even brought up the trans element at all. We are still at if "white chicks" should be banned as well.

I listen to a political podcast and they just had matt forde on (the comedian who left labour over corbyn). He was cooing over how amazing starmer was and how "labour were back". Also how the entire country rallied behind boris when he got sick etc. It was all too much.

Guavanaut posted:There's parts of the US that still haven't properly moved past the "any rear end in a top hat with enough local support can declare himself sheriff and start licensing deputies" phase of policing. He (forde) was saying stuff like "twitter isn't real life" in reference to boris being ill and "corbyn supporters weren't serious about politics" in reference to how great starmer was. He seems exactly the sort that talks about "6th form politics".

Niric posted:I really like the Talking Politics podcast usually (even if it's definitely a Liberal perspective, especially Runciman), but I was pretty irritated by them having Fforde on as a guest. Any time I've seen him he's just come across as an aggressively bland and shallow """political""" comedian, where there's no real observation or reflection going into the jokes, and it's just obvious references and milquetoast takes (tories are a bit greedy, labour are a bit woolly). Given that the podcast can be very good at being informative and giving depth to opinions, it seemed a lovely choice to have a guest come on who's whole schitck is being a superficial summary of Guardian Op Eds They said he was booked for the live show so that's probably why it wasn't treated like a normal episode.
