Man I got my EMS training at a school that also did cops, and man these kids were the dumbest motherfuckers you could imagine, so I saw how their training worked, and man they were loving hungry to get their hands on weapons and armor. Remember one time I'm taking my lunch outside and they are running laps around the parking lot with a dog handler with the dog on a long leash, and I'm like, "uhm, is it okay for me to be here?" and teacher gives me a poo poo look and is like "yeah, okay, whatever." Saw one of the guys moving up in the course getting their fresh recruit uniform (they were like training uniforms or something, not cops yet) preening proud as gently caress to his family that came in to see him who were all "ohh, so handsome!" 6 month course I think, minimum high school graduation needed. Motheruckers got like one day of first aid which they promptly would have dumped from their brains. Fuckin' eh.

They don't happen with any regularity because high speed chases are useless except maybe twice a year for the entire state. QLD had a single fatality from a high speed chase (the cop stopped the chase within a few hundred meters, the runaway crashed a few km later) in the same time the state of Victoria was ratcheting up a few deaths (offenders, police and bystanders) every year.

Dredging up the thread for some good ole down home Texas Police corruption. Coffee City Texas, population 249 with 50 cops employed. Seems the Chief routinely hires other cops that are on leave elsewhere for being under investigation for child abuse, spousal abuse, public drunkeness, DUIs, lying on their paperwork, and a slew of other offenses. Then the Chief has them work very part time, just enough to be considered cops. Which allows them to work security jobs AND he has them working as bounty hunters for people with outstanding fines, they make $150 a pop. The Chief himself had an outstanding DUI offense that he had never showed up for and never reported on the job application as Chief. And he himself works in Houston as a security guard at an apt complex and had been recorded cussing out the local constable for not arresting someone he was having trouble with at that apt complex. I'm fully expecting the reporter doing the story to wind up missing. The downside here is that it isn’t a bug, it is a feature. Law enforcement being municipal and the way legislation and authority works, there’s really no recourse here. The town may do that. Your recourse is voting the mayour or council out (lmao). This is why somewhat similar rackets are basically gone from most of Europe. Law enforcement isn’t a municipal issue anymore that the town can do with as they please.

In a 15 minute meeting, the Coffee City council fired their Chief of Police and shut down the whole force until a new Chief is brought in to figure things out. Seems all the cops will be investigated before being rehired. Instead of putting out the fire, it just kind of dispersed it instead.
