Log off.

It goes to the state board now. Also Michigan isn’t enough to flip the results in the absolute worse case scenario.

I don’t know where someone got the state board splitting it’s some county dipshits

And as was pointed out, if the state board also deadlocks it goes to the state court to get goatse'd by a judge

Also, the state board members are appointed by the governor (in MI a Democrat) and are as such far less likely to be the partisan hacks you find at county level. In fact I think that the governor can even theoretically remove them if necessary, although I'm not sure if that requires legislative approval

It's clear that the GOP has no respect for democracy and all Democratic strategy needs to include that as a predicate

Yeah but you don't work in the Senate, as far as I know, where they truly are extremely buddy-buddy behind-the-scenes.

And you certainly aren't either of my state's senators, both of whom apparently think Lindsey Graham is the bee's knees.

Yes, not even the chuddiest judges are going to buy the bullshit 'certify Wayne county except for Detroit' poo poo. And even if they do it wouldn't swing the election so they still probably shy away from it.

If Biden didn't have 306 EVs it'd probably be more prudent to worry about.

I think the worry a lot of people are feeling is not so much about this particular thing or this particular election, but about how this signals what the new normal will be. It will be a long time before we have another election that is not contested with 50 lawsuits by Republicans. We will continue to see growing numbers of Republicans refuse to concede, interfere with the transition process, and refuse to certify elections. How long can a democracy function under those conditions?

Just think how many lawsuits will be filed in GA in January if a Democrat wins one of those races.

Maybe the fact that Biden wouldn’t hire them under normal circumstances? If they were appointed under a republican administration, chances are they are more likely to be republicans.

I mean, the fact that these lawsuits are getting utterly crushed over and over will probably dissuade future candidates from spending a ton of money and time just to embarrass themselves, unless they are genuinely as bugshit delusional as Trump.

Considering all these cases being laughed out of the court is a judicial precedent for election contests being laughed out of the court, better than you might think.

If you worry is that a decade from now a bunch of "smart" Trumpists will try to do the same thing but more effectively in a way that succeeds, that's not a thought-process that can actually be falsified, except in the sense that the smarter and more effective someone is the more likely it is that they'll recognize collective interests and also that they're embarassing themselves and making everyone hate them.

And if they are and continue to embarrass themselves delusionally, who says Biden or Harris can't institute an insanity bill that disqualifies their fitness to govern?

(No no no not a bill that goes 'lol youre insane get out', a multi-layered bill that can only be enacted if enough checkmarks/prerequisites are crossed)

I certainly hope you are both right. I've also come over to the belief that there's no such thing as a "smart" Trump. His dumbness and grievance is the point, and his followers don't care about the Wall being built, they care about screaming about it at rallies and on Twitter. Ted Cruz/Tom Cotton will never win them over.

Trump, even before the Presidency, seems to have unlocked the "One Weird Trick" to business and politics, which is if you are willing to file frivolous lawsuits and gum things up in the courts for long enough, you can get a away with a lot of things. I honestly don't know how that is remotely affordable, but maybe that's why he's hundreds of millions of dollars in debt.

Trump in his prime had pretty solid conman instincts, but part of being a good conman is never drawing too much attention to yourself, which he ended up doing by becoming President.

This was also bolstered by the fact that he would always make sure to have relationships where he alone holds most of the power, and the unfortunate reality is that in those sorts of situation the courts can be effective weapons for the powerful. But it stops being as effective when you're going up against people who are more willing to fight back and also really really loving hate you.

I think also a big part of being a conman is you do the con and then you get the gently caress out of there, and in business he sorta did that- always moving on to the next big deal so that nobody would look too closely at the last one.

But when you’re the President it’s hard to just leave, and then came the whole “you lose immunity on leaving office” thing. He did cultivate a loyal cult following that still turned out for him (mostly) but that turned out not to be enough.

If he escapes prosecution he’ll have a good market for his next con.
