Hello, ML! As you may or may not already know, I admin a Discord server I lovingly call the Goon Music Academy, formerly the Goony House of Guitars. On this Discord I like to issue song challenges to get people at least thinking about possibly writing a song, maybe, which is always a step in the right direction! A LINK TO THE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/pMKNR7y Previous themes have included funny songs, weird songs, songs about space, parody songs, protest songs, and songs inspired by rain. We've had some good entries, some fantastic entries, and some with no entries at all, such as the accidental general strike against the protest song theme. I think I was just too early for that one, seems far more apropos at present. Anyhow, I figured I'd make a thread for it so I can give you updates, people can share their entries with the forums, and I can generally be a relentless poster. This sounds like an interesting challenge! I'm finally starting to notate my own music and do some home recording. I could use something like this to keep me writing. Do you organize through the Discord to find collaborators, or are these mostly solo projects from goons?

Okay, so I wrote a song for this challenge! I stepped into the Discord for a minute but there seemed to be a lot of channels and not much activity in the one designated for the contest, so I was unsure of where to go. Right now I only have the notation and MIDI, and I was hoping to get some advice for how to turn this into an actual performance piece. I have access to a condenser mic, a soundboard, a MIDI keyboard, my acoustic guitar, and Reaper tools. Are there any plugin recommendations for the percussion/horn sections? Sorry if these questions seem a bit amateur as I'm only just getting into writing things down. I guess if all else fails I could just record myself on guitar and vocals. Nice! Yeah the discord's guilty of channel bloat, my fault... but you can absolutely post in the channel if you like, there's never as much activity there as one would hope, haha.

Oops, looks like I forgot about the thread for September's challenge, which was a "two chord song" challenge: With September's chilly winds arriving to sweep away the surprisingly unsuccessful Metal Challenge, it's time for something new, something limiting, something truly challenging.
