MarcusSA posted:Ok I was confused because that’s definitely not the MSRP of the thing lol. It was never sold for that, it's the standard "pretend it's on sale to make it look like a massive bargain"

If I want a handheld that can do SNES/Genesis/GBA/MAME (up to CPS2) but also has a nice touchscreen for playing ScummVM point n clicks, what's the best bet? Budget up to 100-150

Tiny Timbs posted:The RP3+ has an awful touchscreen that won’t recognize touches near the bottom of the screen That's really annoying, especially as many adventure games have verbs and inventory and stuff right at the bottom.

Tiny Timbs posted:tbh I wouldn't really want to deal with all the tiny touch zones with a touchscreen that small anyway. Broken Sword worked decently on the DS with a stylus, though. Perhaps I should get a cheap Android tablet just for ScummVM instead. I used to use a hacked B&N Nook HD but it's hella old now and ScummVM stopped working on it.

Is the 2S likely to be able to do N64/Dreamcast well? I don't own a Retroid device yet but might pull the trigger for this one

Got my 40 quid MM+ from Temu, it only took about a week which is pretty good for something coming from China - usually stuff from Aliexpress takes 2 or 3. I'm impressed with the case I got with it - specifically moulded for the MM+ and seems fairly robust. I've not really done much tinkering with handhelds or custom OS before so don't have a lot of basis for comparison, but Onion seems like a phenomenal piece of work to me. Easy to use, looks great, so many features. The http server is particularly impressive, not having to keep taking the SD card out is a gamechanger.

MarcusSA posted:AliExpress is having a sale right now and if anyone was looking for a set top emulator you really can’t bes this That store won't ship it to the UK either and all the other T8s I can find on AE are much more expensive . Anyone got any other recommendations for an emulation box around the same price point, or should I just stick with a Pi4?

My Firebat T8 should be here in the next couple of days, woo! Are there any good starter guides for setting one up? I don't have much experience with embedded PCs beyond setting up RetroPie on a Pi 3 once, but am fairly tech-savvy so can probably figure poo poo out. Should I be looking to wipe the stock Windows OS and install Linux? Anything else that needs to be done to get rid of any potential malware etc?

mariooncrack posted:What is your goal with the system? I expect I'll mostly be using it for emulators, especially MAME and N64 and things that don't run quite as well on a Pi
