I've got a pocket full of cheese🧀, and a garden full of trees🌴.

Forgive me, as this is all apropos of nothing, and has probably all been said before and better by others in this thread. But I feel the need to say this somewhere.

1) Sky News Aus. are loving awful. They are trying SO hard to be Fox News, and whilst they have the fascist leaning, 'everything the other guy does is evil, everything our guy does is golden' partisanship down. They still manage to be loving bland and unwatchable. When Andrew Bolt sitting in front of a green screen intoning "climate change doesn't exist" dirge like is your flagship next to the short angry bearded guy, (sorry dunno his name) calling Dan Andrews a socialist dictator as your exciting programming. Your entire station is stinky poopy nonsense.

2) How loving pissweak is the Victorian Opposition. Don't get me wrong, I stand with Dan, and this interminable lockdown is working in terms of numbers etc. But any half competent opposition should be tearing strips off the man. There is the Hotel Quarantine bungle to attack him on. There is the rising sense of frustration and anger at lockdown to build upon. There is even a "look at other states, they can have a drink at the pub, why can't we!" simple arse slogan to rouse the apathetic. Yet the Vic. Libs are doing very little of this, and what they are doing they are doing badly. Andrews himself is even making himself a target by being on TV everyday.

and 3) Scomo is still a prick.

re ACT elections:

I am sorry is this is a flash of the blinding obvious, or has been discussed earlier. But I just had a realization as to why it has been won by Labor for 6 times in a row.

Nobody actively goes to the ACT to retire, so less olds.
Nobody rich wants to live in the ACT, so less rich people.
Most people who live in Canberra are public servants with young families, so as well as less olds, less boomers and more educated white-ish collar workers.

So to hurt the Liberal "base", there are less uneducated old boomer posh Tories. Hence 6 Labor victories in a row.

This is a slightly classist, half arsed personal theory mind you, so feel free to tear it and me down.

another aspect of the continued failures of the ACT Liberals is that they've long been controlled by the socially conservative right-wing of the party which does little to help their popularity in the most socially progressive jurisdiction in the country

Again forgive me, as I know very little about ACT local politics.

But wouldn't this cause a huge feedback loop?

i.e. ACT gov. legalizes marijuana/is good to the LGBTQ community/isn't actively hateful to immigrants etc., this makes the conservative Liberals angry. SO they go harder on the "family values kick", which energizes the progressives to do something else like fight against Domestic Violence/push for Carbon Neutrality/etc., which again further angers the powerless Libs to rage further about Political Correctness gone mad harder. And so on and so forth with Libs getting angrier, and the young weird haired hippy commos with their weird ideas of equality etc. more empowered.

In non COVID, non CelestialScribe being an arsehole news regarding Australian political figures:
https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/clive-palmer-bad-for-my-image-twisted-sister-frontman-tells-court-20201020-p566qo.html

Clive Palmer vs Twisted Sister has finally made it to court. And it looks like Clive was intentionally violating copyright, (he asked for the license to use the song, baulked at the price, claimed "fair use, parody" got told to gently caress off, but realised they couldnt get the ads off the air in time, so continued to use the song."

So it looks like he will lose, but in true Palmer fashion won't pay a cent coz he is a fat fuckhead.

Also unrelated to this court case. But Dee Snyder is apparently a Trump supporter, so gently caress him as well.

On the Gladys stuff:

Whilst she looks clearly guilty of a bunch of shady stuff. I have been surprisingly impressed with the lack of 'slut shaming' of Ms Berejiklian.

Given the shitshow we have as a media in this country, I would have expected all the coverage to be a breathless schoolyard "The Premier has a boyfriend!! She liked him and had a close emotional connection with him!!! OOOOOOH"

If you'll indulge me, I have a few bullshit thoughts about the Chinese SAS soldier tweet.

This reeks to me of "Sandpaper-gate" (When the Aussie Cricket team was busted using sandpaper to cheat.)

Because Australians are, although not to the same extent as China, sanctimonious nationalistic whiny babies about certain things. Our ability at sport being one, and the sanctity and purity of 'the diggers' being another.

Unlike the US, we dont brag about how big and tough and scary our military is. We brag about how good and noble they are. The military things we revere are Gallipoli, (a defeat), and Simpson and his donkey, (a bloke who would walk to and from the battlefield ferrying the wounded to base on his donkey).

So when it came out that the Australian SAS were shooting handcuffed prisoners in the back of the head for fun, Everybody has lost their minds. The right, (with ScoMo being on this side), saying "How dare you accuse our good noble butter wouldn't belt in their mouths boys of something so horrible? There must be some mistake! You are obviously unaustralian baddies for bringing it up" etc. And the rest of the country pearl clutching at the disgrace of it all and the stain on our national character and reputation as the good and noble goodies that we think we are.

Much like in Sandpaper-gate where we all lost our collective minds about the cricket team being a bunch of cheating cunts, (which they had been for decades and everybody knew).

Yes, it's a horrible image, and put out as a classic piece of CCP whataboutism. But it is showing Scomo being more outraged at the insult and obvious trolling than he is about the dead civillians that the SAS executed which reeks of Australia being more concerned with how the world sees us, ( and most importantly how we see ourselves), than anything else.

It also serves as a kind of smokescreen for both parties. Australia can't criticize the Xinjiang death camps because China can just say "your troops do warcrimes, so shut up.", and Australia can quickly skim over the fact that our soldiers are shooting handcuffed men in the back of the head, and instead focus our anger on "The bloody foreign Chinese".

One of his reasons that Melbourne is going to the dogs is that it went from hosting the artistic glitterati of Barry Humphries and David Williamson, to being proud of the laneways filled with street art that are a legitimate tourist attraction. No mention at all of Melbournes once proud live music scene. (I am an old, and havent lived in Melbourne for 10 years so I dunno how vibrant it is these days.)

Then there is the "nobody speaks English here anymore", and his insistence that Apex African gangs roam the streets and graffiti filled laneways terrorizing good white middle class citizens.

Also the swipe at Hannah Gadsby for no reason at all. Who, if I remember correctly is actually from small town Tasmania?

This may be considered a harsh, and unpopular take, but Andrew Bolt is poopy.

Whilst YAY for relaxations and easing of restrictions of any kind.

Wearing a mask isn't the hardship, or inconvenience that everyone is making it out to be. I often forget to take mine off when I am walking home from the shops, of just on a walk.

Yes, it's silly to have to keep putting it on and off in between sips of your beer/coffee. But any "Hallelujah! I am finally free of the oppression" poo poo because you can now go unmasked is stupid.

If I worked retail, then I would be still wearing my mask, mandate or not. At the least of it to be considerate of others that may come into my shop.

No, you see that the issue isn't that my son is now comfortable in his own skin, and is receiving the medical and psychological help to allow him to do so.

The issue is that my pretty pretty princess of a daughter is just being trendy. I don't care how unhappy my child is, they'll grow out of it. It must be a fad, no matter how much pain that stopping them from transitioning will cause them.

Whilst I also give no fucks about Christmas, in my personal situation I have the opposite reaction to you.

I have been stuck in Melbourne at my parents house since June, (due to my job in Korea going balls up due to COVID, and nobody hiring anywhere also due to COVID). So under normal circumstances it would have been nice to maybe share a Christmas phone call with my parents/family at Christmas time. The fact that I have been here with them for most of the year, in close quarters for most of it, makes me long for the days when I was a continent away. As, all things being equal, I should be again from March next year.
