Johnny, we’ve got a incredibly tough field of twelve looking to become RRW Champion. Who walks away with the belt tonight? Johnny Tyler: I’m going to reference an old sports line here, Tess. “To be the man, you have to beat the man!” Lance Heartilly is the reigning champ, and half of the reigning tag champs. Picking against him is a fool’s errand! Tess Bradenbury: A lot of the pundits are agreeing with you, Johnny. For me, I’ve got it as a toss-up between Reverend Johnny Gross and Brian Blackfield; I have them in my final round but I can’t decide on a winner. But we’ll find out in just a few hours’ time, as we’re about to get started with our first match of the evening. Johnny Tyler: This seems a bit of a mismatch, doesn’t it? Tess Bradenbury: I don’t think so, Johnny. Hans Nitschke could have won a lot of other divisions if he was in them, instead of being in the same division as Gross, and this bout against Jack Braddock should be rather interesting. Johnny Tyler: I think Braddock takes it here. The first of many pummelings to be dealt tonight! Johnny Tyler: Yeah, everything we just saw with Braddock? More of the same here. O’Hallister kind of got lucky slipping his scrawny self into the big man’s division title, but this is where his miracle run ends! Tess Bradenbury: O’Hallister came in, told the competition commitee that he wanted in the Red Division where he was outweighed by his own weight in most cases, and proceeded to dominate the division. Carmichael was in contention for the Blue Division title right until the final week, when a loss to Lance Heartilly sealed her fate as the number-five seed. This should be an interesting bout! Johnny Tyler: Until Hailey chokes Mel out with his own arms! Hailey rolls here, calling it! Johnny Tyler: I might not like Simmons much as a person—he’s too honest for my liking—but I don’t see Pulsar winning two falls here. That Zodiac Implosion is too much of a liability. Tess Bradenbury: I’m inclined to agree. Simmons has his Blue Collar Driver, and his Quitting Time submission. Either one alone would be a safer bet to finish a match; with both in the arsenal I don’t see Simmons dropping this one. But we’ve been wrong before; that’s why they wrestle the matches in the ring, folks! Johnny Tyler: Except we won’t be wrong here. I’m 2-for-2 so far, no need to ruin perfection! Johnny Tyler: There’s no way Nagata wins this, Tess. Can you recall the last time he even attempted a finisher? Tess Bradenbury: He hasn’t needed to, Johnny. That Nagata Special of his has been doing an admirable job of finishing the matches for him! Johnny Tyler: Maybe, but these are the playoffs. He needs to step up his game or he’s going to be bounced out in short order! We start with Jack Braddock, who dispatched Hans Nitschke in short order, facing a rested Billy Norris. Johnny Tyler: You mean “pummeling Billy Norris!” Norris is going to show off one time too many, miss his disaster kick, and Braddock will be there to pounce on the opportunity! Tess Bradenbury: That very well may be, but we’ll know for sure by the end of the match, Johnny. Both men have checked over by the official, and there’s the bell to open the second round of the playoffs! quote:(00:04) Braddock blocked a Front Facelock Tess Bradenbury: It feels to me like Norris has controlled most of the opening part of this match, Johnny. Eugene Nagata has his works cut out for him, as he looks to eliminate the entirety of the Yellow Division presence in these playoffs. He got through Yoshii Nakamatsu earlier; now he faces a much tougher task in the Yellow Division champion, Brian Blackfield. Johnny Tyler: And he thinks that suplex is going to be the ticket to winning the match? Tess Bradenbury: I don’t see why not, Johnny. Blackfield seems to get his adrenaline rushes when someone hits an impact finisher. The Nagata Knockout is an impact finisher. So why not avoid it altogether? Johnny Tyler: I’ll believe that works when I see it. quote:(00:04) Blackfield hit a Slap To Chest Tess Bradenbury: Fairly even match through the opening minutes so far. He picked Heartilly to win it all, but on the opposite side of the ring is one of his favorites, Hailey Carmichael. Still sticking to Lance here, Johnny? Johnny Tyler: Given how Lance went throught the playoffs in Season One, and then in Tag Team Turmoil this season, the only people with a shot of slowing him down are Jack Braddock and Hailey Carmichael, the Season One Tag Team Turmoil champions. With Braddock eliminated, I think Hailey is the field’s last hope. If she can’t derail Lance here, he’s going on to win it all. Tess Bradenbury: I notice how you haven’t answered my question, Johnny. Johnny Tyler: And you’ll be happy to keep noticing that! Tess Bradenbury: With that said, both combatants are in the ring, and there’s the bell! This rematch from the Blue Division is underway! quote:(00:07) Heartilly applied a Standing Arm Bar Tess Bradenbury: Heartilly already starting to get on the referee’s bad side. Not the best of ideas. Johnny Tyler: When has that ever stopped…well, either one of these two, Tess? Carmichael can’t take too much more of this…and indeed, there’s the tap! Nothing to fault Hailey for in that match, but Lance has had her number since RRW started. That holds true here, as Hailey fails to get her first victory against Heartilly tonight. Johnny Tyler: I can see her putting time this season in working on countering that move; there’s no way Lance sweeps her next season as well! Tess Bradenbury: So our first conference championship match is now set—Brian Blackfield steps up to attempt to knock the reigning RRW Champion from his perch. That should be a hell of a bout! Pulsar, who came off a hard-fought victory over Daniel Simmons, has a monumental task ahead of him as the top seed in the conference, the always-dangerous Reverend Johnny Gross, awaits him. Johnny Tyler: Honestly, I’m shocked Pulsar won last round. No chance he does it again. None. Tess Bradenbury: How certain are you on this? Johnny Tyler: I’d put money on it if I was able to. Tess Bradenbury: We’ll see if you’re right, Johnny. Both men are in the ring, Pulsar appears to be moving a little gingerly which isn’t surprising given that first round match. Rating: ** Fall 1: Gross, submission via Come to Jesus, 11:06 Fall 2: Gross, submission via Come to Jesus, 16:49 Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross: SPR + 4.35 Changes for Pulsar: SPR -0.08 Billy Norris: Referee, don’t go anywhere! There’s been a change in the schedule! Tess Bradenbury: Johnny, you know anything about this? Johnny Tyler: No, this is news to me! Billy Norris: See, I want my shot at you right now. None o’ this waiting malarkey. I want to kick your face so hard you’ll kiss the drat moon, and I don’t want to wait to do it! Reverend Gross, having heard about as much of this as he cares to, just waves off Norris and drops to the mat, rolling out of the ring in front of the commentary table. Norris slides in the ring behind him, microphone still in hand. Billy Norris: What’s wrong, God-boy? Afraid your so-called almighty isn’t going to let you do something out of order? Or are you that afraid of a little fire bath, eh? One can almost see the moment that Norris’ barbs managed to anger the preacher. No one, and by the Lord he meant NO ONE, was going to preach to him about hellfire. Turning towards the ring, Gross stares down Norris, and the Australian’s face seems to lose a little bit of color as Gross slides inside. The ref comes over to try to talk some sense, but Gross bellows, in his pulpit voice, to ring the bell. The official, after pausing a moment, lets out a sigh and calls for the bell, signaling the first of two Conference Championship matches had just begun….

Johnny Tyler: Given who’s in this match, on most nights I’d give the advantage to Reverend Gross. Norris may have taken that away, and Gross could pay for his hubris! I have to agree, Tess, this was a well-laid plan so far by Billy Norris! Come on out here, Johnny, and let’s do this here and now! Tess Bradenbury: Is Lance out of his mind? Surely he doesn’t intend to wrestle for another hour after two matches tonight! Johnny Tyler: Tess, he is THE pinnacle of RRW right now. If he says he can go, he can probably do it and not think twice! Lance Heartilly: Come on, Johnny! As the reigning RRW Champion for one more match, I’m exercising my prerogative to start this bout early! Come on out here, so I can beat you like I did Glenn Knight last season and get back to Calgary, where this belt belongs! Tess Bradenbury: Did he really just insinuate that he’s going to pull a 17-0 victory for the second year running? Johnny Tyler: And who are you to doubt Lance Heartilly?! There is a brief silence, and Lance is about to speak again when Reverend Johnny Gross emerges from backstage. Officials are seen asking him to turn around, to save the match for tomorrow when both men are rested, but Gross is having none of it. Gross slides into the ring, a thin smile crossing his face as he nods at Heartilly. The cameras are able to pick up Gross’s words. Reverend Gross: You heard the man. Ring the bell, and let’s settle this!

Maybe he wants to get this done so he’s ready for his sermon tomorrow. I don’t honestly know. Tess Bradenbury: Wait, he still preaches on Sundays? Johnny Tyler: Well, yeah. Tess Bradenbury: heartily grabs the foot of Gross and is twisting at it, trying to wrench the knee a little more...that did the trick! Gross taps out, and he’s cradling his left leg as he tries to get to a corner and get back to his feet! Lance Heartilly has tied this match up at four falls apiece, with ten minutes left to go! Johnny Tyler: This is going to go down to the wire, for certain, especially with both men now bleeding! quote:(50:01) Rev. Gross blocked a Stump Piledriver Johnny Tyler: Gross seems to have found his twenty-fourth wind here! Tess Bradenbury: The referee seems content for now to let this ride, as we drop to under seven minutes remaining. But if Gross isn’t careful, it could still come crashing down around him if the ref decides to force the issue! quote:(53:18) Rev. Gross hit a Legdrop To Groin Johnny Tyler: This could be the match right here! Tess Bradenbury: Gross is screaming in pain; his legs have to be wracked in agony by this point as he tries to fight through it and find a break. He’s just a few inches from the ropes…but Heartilly cranks on the ankle, and that tweaks the knee enough that Gross taps! Despite being behind most of the match, Heartilly now leads five falls to four with less than five minutes remaining! Johnny Tyler: I think that’ll do it, Tess. Gross’ legs can’t take another one of those! quote:(55:27) Heartilly slipped out the front of a Stump Piledriver Johnny Tyler: Wait, Gross from out of nowhere with the sleeper! And he’s got the body scissors locked in too! Tess Bradenbury: If this happened just a little later, Lance could try to stretch the time out, but there’s still too much time left…and indeed, there’s the tap! Gross has tied this up at five falls apiece with three and a half minutes to go! As Gross releases Come to Jesus, Heartilly brings the point of his elbow down into the side of Gross’s left knee while seemingly trying to get to his feet. Gross staggers back into a neutral corner, basically resting all of his weight on the right leg as the ref threatens to DQ Heartilly and award Gross a fall. Instead, there’s a good thirty second tirade that Gross uses to try to recover before the ref signals for the match to resume. Tess Bradenbury: What in the hell was that? Johnny Tyler: He was trying to get up, Tess. I don’t know why the ref is giving Heartilly such a— Tess Bradenbury: Oh, can it, Johnny! You and I both know that was a cheap shot! If Heartilly can’t win this in regulation, he’s looking for any advantage he can if this goes to extra time! quote:(56:44) Heartilly broke the Trapping Headbutts Tess Bradenbury: Can Gross hang on? There’s less than thirty seconds left! Johnny Tyler: He’s fighting towards the ropes, but Heartilly is blocking the attempt—wait, now he’s trying to flip them over! He knows that if he can just hold on, he has a chance! Tess Bradenbury: Looks like…yes, Gross gets them rolled over, but Heartilly just rolls with the momentum and they’re right back where they started, but now in the center of the ring…wait! Heartilly just drove his elbow straight into the left kneecap of Gross! Johnny Tyler: Twelve seconds! Eleven…ten…nine— Tess Bradenbury: Gross taps! Four successive elbow shots to the knee were too much! With just nine seconds remaining, Lance Heartilly takes a six falls to five lead! Johnny Tyler: This is basically over, Tess! Unless Gross gets a miracle pin right from the restart, Lance Heartilly has retained! quote:(59:55) Rev. Gross hit a Slap To Chest Tess Bradenbury: And there’s the bell! In an absolute war, Lance Heartilly has emerged bloodied, bruised, and torn, but yet victorious! Sadly, only regular-season matches are eligible, and that’s why the Match of the Season goes to Jun Onoo’s win over Otto von Schwarz in Week 12. UPDATED RRW RECORDS AND SUPERLATIVES With 24 regular season wins, Reverend Johnny Gross holds the mark for most wins in RRW. He also has the best winning percentage, at 75%. Season Two’s Most Entertaining Wrestler is Elyssa Anderson, who posted an Average Match Rating of 2.375 over the regular season. The single-season high mark is still held jointly by Daniel Simmons and The Siberian Nightmare, who each posted a 2.563 back in season one. The highest average for someone who’s competed in both seasons is Otto von Schwarz, with an Average Match Rating of 2.344 over 32 matches. Otto von Schwarz, despite being a giant and thus not normally someone who would be considered a good performer, holds an RRW-leading 8 Matches of the Night to his name. The next closest is El Tornado with 5. Wins have come at a premium for Jimmy Anarchy (he only has 6 over two seasons), so to think that he would have the fastest Average Time of Victory is intriguing. His mark of 12:03 is just seven seconds ahead of the next-fastest. The single-season marks are Glenn Knight’s 11:28 from Season 1 (11 wins), and Billy Norris’s 11:44 this season (also 11 wins). In terms of a wrestler’s Overall rating, there’s only one character who has passed the 500 mark, and that’s Brian Blackfield. His 507 OVR is 11 points up on Yoshii Nakamatsu and two-time RRW Champion Lance Heartilly. Speaking of Lance Heartilly, he has far and way the highest Wrestling Spirit rating of anyone on the roster. Winning two RRW Titles and a Tag Team Turmoil event will certainly help as that’s 125 bonus point right there. His rating of 553 exceeds second place—Jack Braddock—by 142 points. Hailey Carmichael is the only other member of the roster to even meet the 400 threshold, albeit by rounding (the actual stat is 399.94). Billy Norris’ win over Pulsar in week twelve, at 7:32, is the third-fastest regular match in RRW history. Markus Clay over Terrance Stevens in 7:51 during week two falls into fifth. Standard Matches—Longest The top five remain unchanged from season one. Sixth through tenth, though, are all season two bouts, headlined by Otto von Schwarz over Sven Ulafsson in 30:23—just 13 seconds away from overtaking fifth. Gimmick Matches—Shortest Pulsar’s Table Match win over Sterling Silver in week 12, timed at 6:36, is the new mark to beat for gimmick matches. The new runner-up is Norris’ victory over El Tornado under Last One Standing rules, at 7:47—a full minute and change behind Pulsar’s victory. Gimmick (non-European) Matches—Longest The only change to the top five came in week six, When Terrance Stevens took 11:25 to put away Devil’s Delight in a Hardcore match. That exact time was matched six week later, when Brian Blackfield beat George Mastachas in a Cage match in 22:25. European Rules Matches Two of the three held this season ended up being the second and third-longest bouts of this type in RRW history. The third would be the shortest one held in RRW. Lord Robert Abernathy’s victory over Vladimir Chavinski in week two, clocking in at 48:24, currently sits in second place on the table. The week eleven clash, in which Faarooq Mahal Jr. beat Otto von Schwarz in 44:15, sits in third. Best Rated Regular Season Matches After the Season Two finals, we all know that that match is going to be the pinnacle of RRW matches for a very, very long time. So sticking to the regular season… RRW's fifth-ever ****-rated regular season match slots into second place from this season, held in week 12 when Jun Onoo bested Otto von Schwarz. (This is also the 8th-longest standard match in RRW history). The top match continues to be the European Rules bout from season one, week four, in which Daniel Simmons bested Jun Onoo in a time of 32:48, also earning a **** rating. PROPOSED CHANGES FOR SEASON THREE The biggest change I’m aiming for in season three once more revolves around managers. Despite opening up every avenue of manager interference available, there’s still a decided lack of actual interference. Consequentially, those people with managers (Hailey, Nagata, Nitschke, Delight, von Schwarz, River) are being penalized for their manager’s laziness or plain inability to run interference. Thus, in season three, wrestlers only get a reduction to their earned XP if a manager actually manages to successfully interfere in a bout. If a manager does not try, or does not successfully interfere, the wrestler will be given full XP for the match. I’m also toying with the idea of adding random events between shows. Something akin to a 0.5 to 1% chance per week of something happening to a character. Things along the line of: “Your therapy after the match helped you recover a little more than usual. Negate one level of damage to one body part from the previous week.” “You crushed your workout this week! Gain five free Stat Points that must be used this week or they will be lost.” “A lack of sleep disrupted your preparation. Training PMs for this week will not be taken into effect for your next match (they will be applied afterwards, does not apply to signature/finisher purchases).” And so forth. Only one goon finished under .500 for the season. However, he has not been in contact for any training/updates since the early part of Season One. So if the deadline for Season Three applications passes and Glenn Knight’s handler hasn’t been in touch in some way or another to state whether he wants back in for Season Three, Knight will be moved out of active competition, and his fifteen free stat points and extra TP forfeited. For all other current goon characters: You have one (1) TP that you may use or bank to build up for future purchases. If you have negative traits that can be worsened to give you more TP, you may increase those levels by one to give you the additional TP. There is no rush to send these changes in; I will be taking a two-week sabbatical from RRW related things to recharge mentally. The tentative plan is to “reopen” on March 15, allow two weeks for new sign ups and updating current/returning wrestlers, with a deadline of March 29 for applications and Season Three, Week One being posted on April 4. This puts Tag Team Turmoil around Memorial Day in the US, and the season ending around the beginning of August barring any scheduling changes. So if anyone reading along is interested in joining for season three, you have a couple of weeks to get your ideas solidified and ready to go!

A brief update: The planned schedule I laid out above will be pushed back a week in all regards. The reason is that my roommate’s PC, which I ran RRW on for all of Season Two, decided to randomly have the USB Microphone not work and constantly lock up the system. In doing tech support for said computer, my dumb rear end forgot to save the updated WS3 game database before the system was wiped. So while I have the Excel sheet with all of the stats updated, my actual game database backup is from midway through season one. So the extra week will be to ensure that everything gets reentered into the system properly, all pictures and such work as expected, and for me to redo the updates I had already begun for season three movesets and such.

I spent the majority of Friday afternoon going back into the older database and updating stats/movesets. Still to do moveset-wise are all goon characters save Hailey Carmichael, as all other goons currently have XP outstanding and even those few points may add a move or two to the list depending on where they go. But with just a handful out of the 32-plus characters I have in the database, it's more manageable. I still have traits to do for everyone except Hailey, whose Season 3 traits I've already received, but I can do those during any down time from work at the beginning of this week as those at least aren't as time-consuming. So no big deal there. With the two major headaches of restoration mostly dealt with, let's go ahead and do something I meant to do last week, shall we? One week until application deadline, folks. I’ve already gotten the schedule template worked out for season three, and names/gimmick matches distributed throughout. Took a solid hour to make sure every person got two gimmick bouts exactly...which normally I’m at it for 90+ minutes trying to manipulate things so I’ll take a bit of good fortune for once. I’ll likely post another installment of the RRW Diaries sometime this week. Anyone have any preferences for who gets showcased?

So real life happened and I didn’t get the RRW Diaries entry written like I wanted. But we’re still going to move on with things regardless of how suddenly packed my free time has become between this, Final Fantasy Randomizer’s spring tournament I’m helping out with, and other assorted projects. Pulsar had picked up the pace of the bout, keeping River off-balance with his speedy offense, but a missed running seated dropkick in the corner gave River a chance to come back. The ref went down due to a reversed Irish whip, and the fight quickly went outside after Pulsar connected with a Pescado Suicida. This would turn out to be a mistake. River was more at home fighting outside the ring, and with the ref down he made certain to bring plunder into play, at one point connecting with a chair shot that echoed loudly in the empty arena. As the ref finally came to, River hit a spear and tried to get the countout win, but Pulsar made his way back inside the ring…where a pair of Sacrifices led to a Crimson Regret, and a decisive win for River to kick off his third campaign in RRW. Blood River (1-0) def. Pulsar (0-1) via Pinfall (Crimson Regret) in 12:02. Rating: *** Changes for Blood River: OVR + 5.28, XP + 526.26, minor damage to head Changes for Pulsar: OVR + 0.73, XP + 131.56, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body  The Siberian Nightmare (0-0, OVR 422) vs. Diamond Steel (0-0, OVR 473)  A decent, hard-hitting bout. Steel had a decided early advantage, keeping the returning Nightmare off balance, but her lack of moves that could finish a bout aside from the All Out Blitz cost her in the end. She only got one attempt at it, which Nightmare neatly sidestepped and then leveled her with The Sickle. He would not relinquish control after that, and a few minutes later hit his trademark leaping piledriver for the victory in his return to RRW. The Siberian Nightmare (1-0) def. Diamond Steel (0-1) via Pinfall (Siberian Avalanche) in 17:57. Rating: ** Changes for The Siberian Nightmare: OVR + 4.42, XP + 488.62, moderate damage to head Changes for Diamond Steel: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.15, minor damage to head  Markus Clay (0-0, OVR 485) vs. Elyssa Anderson (0-0, OVR 462)  YELLOW DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH This seemed a step slower than most First Blood contests, and went rather quickly as well. While both got equal amounts of offense in, Clay got lucky off a knee drop that busted Anderson open…or at least, the audience thought he got lucky at first. As Clay walked back up the entrance ramp, he paused to pull something metallic out of his kneepad, ostensibly the reason Anderson got busted open. Anderson seethed with rage in the ring, as the commentators hyped up the fact that these two would be facing off once again next week. Markus Clay (1-0) def. Elyssa Anderson (0-1) via First Blood (Knee Drop) in 10:14. Rating: ** Changes for Markus Clay: OVR + 4.21, XP + 484.91, minor damage to head Changes for Elyssa Anderson: OVR + 0.87, XP + 121.23, minor damage to head  Sven Ulafsson (0-0, OVR 441) vs. Jack Braddock (0-0, OVR 485) A surprising Match of the Night contender that, at the start, looked like it was going to be a squash. Braddock had early control with his striking game, putting Ulafsson in trouble early. However, Braddock seemed almost obsessed with landing the Jack Attack, and three consecutive missed attempts let Ulafsson get back into the contest with a couple of Nordic Backbreakers. A ducked clothesline by Braddock finally led to a Jack Attack connecting…and Ulafsson kicked out right before three, much to Braddock’s shock. A second successful Jack Attack kept Sven down for three, but only barely as Sven kicked out at 3.1. Some might say Braddock stole this one, but the end result is a win regardless for the reigning Purple Division champion. {Behind The Curtain: On the first Jack Attack that landed, Braddock needed to roll an 893 or lower out of 1000 to win, and rolled an 897. On the second one, Braddock needed 918 or lower…and got a 914 on the roll. Two incredibly close rolls, which may have helped the rating subtly.} Jack Braddock (1-0) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (1-0) def. Sterling Silver (0-1) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 21:39. Rating: ** Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross: OVR + 4.63, XP + 490.39, minor damage to head and body Changes for Sterling Silver: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.60, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body Mel O'Hallister (0-0, OVR 448) vs. Vladimir Chavinski (0-0, OVR 454)  This turned into a brawl early and stayed there. Aside from O’Hallister applying the Irish Clover on two occasions, this was all strikes all the time, and could have gone either way. She gave as good as she got, weathering whatever Nakamatsu threw at her (including a DEVASTATION Knee that hit flush), but it was the unexpected that caught Yoshii off-guard. For the first time in three seasons, McDonald went to the top rope during a match and connected with her somersault leg drop, the Hang Over. Having not seen it before, Nakamatsu didn’t have it scouted, and the surprise maneuver put him off-kilter enough that a simple spear did the trick a minute later. An average match despite the inclusion of McDonald’s trademark signature, it was still enough for her to fend off a worthy challenge from Yoshii on this night. Brandy McDonald (1-0) def. Yoshii Nakamatsu (0-1) via Pinfall (Spear) in 16:32. Rating: ** Changes for Brandy McDonald: OVR + 4.34, XP + 487.94, minor damage to head Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.98, minor damage to head Eugene Nagata (0-0, OVR 468) vs. Brian Blackfield (0-0, OVR 507) Maven Deltzer’s dislike for Eugene Nagata continues, apparently. Despite a competitive bout between the two men, and despite Shaft Sonnen actually making himself useful for the first time in a great while (tripping up Blackfield to prevent a Blindside High Knee about six minutes into the contest), Deltzer still only gave this match a single star. While no one has him on record saying this, the rumors are that the single star was because Blackfield hit the Scotland Destroyer and got the win that way. Many viewers thought that this should have been a 2-star match, but Maven decreed otherwise. Brian Blackfield (1-0) def. Eugene Nagata (0-1) via Pinfall (Scotland Destroyer) in 15:21. Rating: * Changes for Brian Blackfield: OVR + 3.01, XP + 446.75, minor damage to head Changes for Eugene Nagata: OVR -0.92, XP + 94.94, minor damage to head  Faarooq Mahal Jr. (0-0, OVR 440) vs. Daniel Simmons (0-0, OVR 496) It’s not clear what Mahal did during the offseason to prepare for his second campaign in RRW, but it started by essentially shrugging off four or five punches and kicks from Simmons in the opening minute, as if they didn’t hurt in the slightest. Once Simmons moved to forearms and elbows, it seemed to take noticeable effect, but Mahal was quick to respond with a litany of holds and the occasional elbow drop to keep the match close. Mahal thwarting the Working Man’s Dropkick by tossing Simmons off the top rope was the beginning of the end, as several neckbreakers in succession eventually led to his submission finisher, and Simmons having to tap out while still out of reach of the ropes. Faarooq Mahal Jr. (1-0) def. Daniel Simmons (0-1) via Submission (Full Metal Jacket) in 16:24. He kept Norris close and tried to wear him down with strikes. It wasn’t until Norris managed to create a little separation, and pick up the tempo, that Nitschke began to flounder. Norris would keep up the pace enough to hit a Boomerang DDT and a Down Under Disaster back-to-back, and that was enough to keep Herr Doktor down for the pin. Billy Norris (1-0) def. Hans Nitschke (0-1) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 10:37. She controlled the middle portion of the contest, wearing down Abernathy to get her Vite d’Indaco applied, and in tight. Abernathy was moments from tapping when his hand reached up and went for the eyes of Rose, breaking the hold while the ref admonished him. As has been told several times this week alone, that would be the turning point and he never looked back, eventually locking in his own submission and forcing the tap out. Clay was the first to get Anderson into trouble about eleven minutes in, but took too long to get prepared on the top rope, which allowed Anderson a chance to get back into the match. A begging off low blow only netted two for Anderson, but she followed that up with a Point of Attack to put down Markus, get the three count, and split the season series with him just two matches into the season. Elyssa Anderson (1-1) def. Markus Clay (1-1) via Pinfall (Point of Attack) in 13:21. A superman punch seemed to be the beginning of the end for Delight, but ducking a left hook and connecting with a trio of Hellborne Risings to the left shoulder of Wassermann gave Delight the first real chance she’s had since joining RRW. After the third, she went for a submission finisher, only for Wassermann to shake her off. Angela couldn’t stop it a second time, and she will go down as a RRW trivia factoid as the first person to lose—and lose cleanly, without manager interference—to Devil’s Delight, in week two of season three by way of reverse armbar. At that point, Heartilly ducked under a running forearm blow from Simmons, who took out the ref with the shot. Heartilly quickly stunned Simmons and applied the Hellacious Leglock, knowing the ref was down and not able to check the submission, and piled on the offense over the next minute. He seemed to time it just right to land a low blow right before the ref regained enough of his senses to look around, and Heartilly made the cover to steal a pinfall victory over Simmons in what had been shaping up to be a Match of the Night contender before that point. This was a total squash, and much like the match that this replaced atop the leaderboards, it was the White Division member getting destroyed as Blackfield never even needed to break out his finisher to put away Mastachas. O’Hallister had a little bit of hope around the ten-minute mark, but a pair of spinning backfists eventually set him up to fall victim to a Jack Attack in a match that had minimal holds that weren’t illegal chokes. He allowed Chavinski to gas himself out with an early offensive rush, and when Vladimir could barely defend himself due to a lack of oxygen, Sven took control. Several high impact moves—most notably a hammerlock powerbomb, a new wrinkle in his arsenal this season—preceded Pure Power and gave Sven his first win of the campaign. Sven Ulafsson (1-1) def. Vladimir Chavinski (0-2) via Pinfall (Pure Power) in 13:25. Nagata did manage to get some offense in to make it seem closer than it was, but ultimately McDonald just had too much for Eugene to handle on this night. Brandy McDonald (2-0) def. When he missed Le Petit Mort for a second time, and kicked out of the desperate pin attempt Silver made to steal a win, the luchadora decided enough was enough. She would spend the next ten minutes largely on offense, battering Ouilette mercilessly. It would have only been five minutes, save for Ouilette kicking out of On Wings of Silver which only served to infuriate Silver more. A second one finally put an end to the match, probably much to the relief of Ouilette who looked like he had been in a car wreck by the end of it. Sterling Silver (1-1) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-1) via Pinfall (On Wings of Silver) in 20:38. Tornado had an early advantage, but Gross, still riding the wave of momentum from last season (final minute of the championship match aside) eventually took command of the bout and dispatched Tornado in short order afterwards. Reverend Johnny Gross (2-0) def. El Tornado (0-2) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 10:29. Rating: ** Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross: OVR + 3.99, XP + 485.03, no notable damage Changes for El Tornado: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.26, minor damage to head Billy Norris (1-0, OVR 496) vs. Pulsar (0-1, OVR 493) ORANGE DIVISION This turned out to be an absolute print of a match that never let off the gas from the opening bell. Norris opened up a cut just below Pulsar’s left eye with a headbutt two and a half minutes into the contest. Pulsar refused to let that stop him, as kept the tempo up throughout, giving back as good as he got from Norris. For his part, Norris seemed right at home in this fast-paced contest, making certain to keep a focus on that laceration in case the ref decided to call the match due to blood loss. It wouldn’t get that far, despite the cut gradually getting worse throughout the contest. At just eight minutes in, Norris dropped Pulsar with a garden variety DDT, and immediately connected with the Down Under Disaster, to score a quick pinfall in one of the more enjoyable bouts of the evening. However, even at this blistering pace, it’s still not fast enough to crack the top ten shortest standard matches in RRW history. Billy Norris (2-0) def. However, it would be Nightmare who tried to draw blood first, pounding away at Rose’s head for a few seconds multiple times but not managing to bust her open. Rose would fight back, eventually getting Nightmare into position for that DDT, only for Nightmare to power out of it and deliver an implant DDT, opening up a cut on Rose’s forehead. Markus Clay (1-1, OVR 490) vs. Hans Nitschke (1-1, OVR 449) The only reason this did not end up a 1* match is because Nitschke stopped the first attempt at the Johannesburg Express before it even got started. Clay dominated the first half of the match, and if he had gotten the moonsault off it would have been a total squash. However, over the next five minutes Nitschke would rack up enough offense to make it look competitive. It wouldn’t be enough, though, as Clay eventually kept Herr Doktor down long enough to hit his finisher and improve to 2-1 on the season. Markus Clay (2-1) def. An early Sacrifice set the table for Elyssa to be in trouble, though a follow-up spear only netted a one count. Only a minute or two later, Anderson was down and River was up top, maybe looking for Crimson Regret, when he noticed Anderson start to get up. In a spot of improvisation, River leapt off the top rope and hit his other finisher, one we’ve rarely seen in RRW—his top rope hurricanrana into a pinfall attempt he calls The Offering—and picked up the win in convincing fashion to remain undefeated on the young season. River is emerging as an early-season dark horse in the Black Division. Blood River (3-0) def. Elyssa Anderson (1-2) via Pinfall (The Offering) in 8:49. It was instinct that led him to try to headbutt Carmichael not once but three separate times in the match, and the third finally was the catalyst that let Hailey put him down long enough to finally get #NoFilter applied. Very close, very even back-and-forth contest between the two that could have gone either way at any point. Both men seemed to taunt the others into throwing their heaviest shots—a practice that went in Nightmare’s favor, obviously, given The Sickle—but Mahal used his catalogue of holds to keep Nightmare from ever building too much momentum. It was FMJ who tried the first finisher, only for Nightmare to break out of the Full Metal Jacket, and shortly thereafter land the aforementioned Sickle. It wasn’t long after that before Mahal fell victim to that leaping piledriver of Nightmare’s, and Nightmare continues to surprise folks on his return to RRW as he also moves to 3-0 on the season. Ouilette was busted open early, and his troubles just escalated from there as Tornado maintained control through the last half of the match to emerge with the victory in an otherwise dull contest. El Tornado (1-2) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-2) via Pinfall (Tornado Splash) in 11:18. Several top rope moves and a springboard clothesline got thrown out by Pulsar, and while Mastachas attempted an Olympus Rises once, Pulsar shut it down with a vertical body press and kept up the pace. Eventually, Mastachas was too worn down from trying to keep up with Pulsar that the Zodiac Implosion was enough to finish the job. Pulsar (1-2) def. Wassermann eventually fought back, hit several superman punches, and after avoiding a Cast the Stone attempt locked in her cross arm breaker to get the submission victory and a slight bit of redemption after last week. Angela Wassermann (1-2) def. Sin (1-2) via Submission (Cross Arm Breaker) in 12:34. Her reward? Just the two-time defending RRW champion in a Tables match. To her credit, she did block the first two attempts that Heartilly tried to put her through a table (a DDT and stump piledriver), and started to make a valiant comeback before Heartilly took her down and applied a Hellacious Leglock just for the pain and suffering of it. It ended up being a war of attrition more than anything, though, as Ulafsson gassed himself out inside of twelve minutes and would eventually have no stamina left to avoid the fourth attempt at an All Out Blitz, and even less after that to kick out of the attempt. She tried to control Otto’s movement by controlling the head with numerous side headlocks and front facelocks, but the size and strength eventually proved too much for her. It took about eight minutes longer than he may have wanted, but Otto eventually put McDonald down for the pin after a hard-fought match. Otto von Schwarz (2-1) def. Against one of the odds-on favorites to make it back to the RRW Championship match this season, Yoshii did not let himself get put into danger, avoiding one attempt at Kneel Before God before wearing down the right Reverend so that a Nakamatsu Driver could seal the deal. Yoshii gets his first win of the season against one of the tougher opponents he will face in the campaign. Yoshii Nakamatsu (1-2) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (2-1) via Pinfall (Nakamatsu Driver) in 12:36. He didn’t count on Chavinski to show up with his A game and find a way to endure after gassing out in under 5 minutes. Abernathy hit his British Suplexes near the end and tried for Shatterfall, but Chavinshi broke the attempt, hit a hard roundhouse right hand to drop Abernathy, and immediately applied a rear naked choke that Abernathy just could not fight his way out of. Chavinski earns his first win of the season in a close bout, and for another week the improbable continues to happen atop the Green Division standings. Vladimir Chavinski (1-2) def. Lord Robert Abernathy (1-2) via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) in 17:02. Rating: ** Changes for Vladimir Chavinski: OVR + 4.37, XP + 488.18, minor damage to head Changes for Lord Robert Abernathy: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.04, moderate damage to head Mel O'Hallister (1-1, OVR 452) vs. Brian Blackfield (2-0, OVR 513) While this one was close throughout, something happened at the fourteen-minute mark that I want to specifically point out, and to do so I need to talk game mechanics for a bit. So let’s put kayfabe aside for a hot minute. O’Hallister was on offense, and landed an Implant DDT. With all of the variables calculated, the chance to win was 186 out of 1000. O’Hallister rolled a 7. By rights he should have won, but instead Blackfield kicked out at the last instant. Why? you may ask. Blackfield barely has a Spirit stat above the starting amount in RRW. That can’t affect things, can it? Correct. But his OVR can. At 500 overall, a wrestler cannot be beaten by a move that ends up with a less than 30% chance of winning a bout. A number of RRW wrestlers are at or already past that 500 threshold (including Blackfield at 513), so as this proceeds you’ll find fewer moves are available within the current movesets that will end a match prior to finishers being used. As the OVR continues to go up, that threshold will start getting higher, too. As for how the match actually ended, well… let’s go back to kayfabe, shall we? As Blackfield kicked out of the implant DDT, and O’Hallister argued with the ref, Mel eventually just decided “to hell with it” and proceeded to punch a rising Blackfield square in the dick. There was no adrenaline rush coming off of that one, and it kept Blackfield down long enough for the pin. Mel O'Hallister (2-1) def. Brian Blackfield (2-1) via Pinfall (Low Blow) in 15:24. Rating: ** Changes for Mel O'Hallister: OVR + 4.27, XP + 487.39, minor damage to head Changes for Brian Blackfield: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.85, minor damage to head Eugene Nagata (0-2, OVR 466) vs. Sterling Silver (1-1, OVR 450) No lie, this should have ended nine minutes in. Silver had Nagata in the drop zone for her 450 splash, but instead allowed Nagata to stand up so she could attempt a middle rope dropkick (that he ended up avoiding). Nagata would spend the next ten minutes fighting back, eventually beginning his spamming of the Nagata Special (that only netted a two count once in six tries). Silver fought back, finally decided to go for her finisher…only for Shaft Sonnen to push her off the rope and then be sent to the back. A Nagata Lock 5 attempt would go for naught, and that was Eugene’s last chance at winning the match, as another six minutes later Silver would finally hit her 450 for the win in a match that went way, way too long. His woes continued here as Gross controlled the majority of the contest en route to a submission finisher, as Herr Doktor’s season threatens to fall into critical condition. Reverend Johnny Gross (3-1) def. Hans Nitschke (1-3) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 10:02. Otto may be over seven feet tall and 450 pounds, but even he’s vulnerable there. It only took one for Hailey to get the win, as Otto could only get to a knee by the time the ref got to ten. Hailey Carmichael (4-0) def. Otto von Schwarz (2-2) via Last One Standing (Low Blow) in 12:51. This match was close, and probably would have been Match of the Night contender if it had gone about four minutes longer. In the end, though, Deltzer would be proven right in his guess, to the chagrin of tryhards everywhere on Twitter, as she tapped out Rose with her reverse armbar to notch win number two on the season in a closely-fought contest. Devil's Delight (2-2) def. Indigo Rose (1-3) via Submission (Purgatory’s End) in 13:38. She would leave tonight as the new record holder for fastest victory in RRW, and it wasn’t even close, as she hit a spear to put El Tornado down for the count in just over five minutes, cutting a minute and change off the old record held by Blood River. Sterling Silver (3-1) def. El Tornado (1-3) via Pinfall (Spear) in 5:12. Rating: * Changes for Sterling Silver: OVR + 2.61, XP + 442.29, no notable damage Changes for El Tornado: OVR -0.79, XP + 110.57, minor damage to head Daniel Simmons (0-3, OVR 495) vs. Lord Robert Abernathy (1-2, OVR 488) GREEN DIVISION Simmons did not get out of the starting blocks until about nine minutes in, and by then it was too little too late. Abernathy let Simmons have a hope for all of two minutes before locking in his STF for the submission victory in what would be essentially a squash. However, for another week, he would find himself looking up at Devil’s Delight in the Green Division standings, due to the victory time timebreaker Lord Robert Abernathy (2-2) def. Daniel Simmons (0-4) via Submission (God Save the Queen) in 12:23. A few minutes later, the first of several attempts at the Siberian Avalanche would go for naught. This would continue for the next ten or twelve minutes before Nightmare finally stunned Wassermann long enough to connect with the leaping piledriver, and move to a surprising 4-0 in his return season. The Siberian Nightmare (4-0) def. Angela Wassermann (1-3) via Pinfall (Siberian Avalanche) in 25:42. Rating: ** Changes for The Siberian Nightmare: OVR + 4.86, XP + 492.34, moderate damage to head Changes for Angela Wassermann: OVR -0.09, XP + 123.08, major damage to head, minor damage to body Jack Braddock (3-0, OVR 498) vs. Diamond Steel (2-1, OVR 480) PURPLE DIVISION This early-season bout would be for the Purple Division lead, as Braddock looked to move to a career 5-0 mark against Diamond Steel. Steel came in prepared this time, and kept mostly out of reach of Braddock’s strikes, or tried to control his movements with basic holds. Braddock, naturally, got his shots in when he could, and this went back and forth in the later third of the match. However, Steel’s strategy of keeping her distance would prove to be a successful one, as she avoided a Braddock thrust kick, went to the moves in the same motion, and cut Jack down with an All Out Blitz for the pinfall victory, and for the moment, the Purple Division lead. Diamond Steel (3-1) def. Jack Braddock (3-1) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 17:25. Rating: ** Changes for Diamond Steel: OVR + 4.39, XP + 488.36, minor damage to head Changes for Jack Braddock: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.09, moderate damage to head Mel O'Hallister (2-1, OVR 456) vs. Lance Heartilly (3-0, OVR 507) In one corner, the two-time RRW Champion with a leg-based submission finisher. In the other, a man with a past history of right leg issues. You’d be forgiven to think this was a squash, but O’Hallister nearly had Heartilly in danger of eating a finisher—if one of his three attempts at the Irish Clover hadn’t been countered, it very well could have been Lance’s fate. Instead, Lance had to fight to get O’Hallister into the Hellacious Leglock, taking four attempts to do so but finally getting it secured for the submission victory in a very competitive but average bout. Lance Heartilly (4-0) def. Mel O'Hallister (2-2) via Submission (Hellacious Leglock) in 14:15. Otherwise, nothing much of interest happened until the end, when Norris propped a table up at the corner of the ringside area and then speared Pulsar through it for the win. Billy Norris (3-1) def. Pulsar (1-3) via Table Break (Spear) in 7:29. River remains perfect on the season. Blood River (4-0) def. Sin (1-3) via Pinfall (Crimson Regret) in 14:19. Mastachas finally notches his first win of the season with Wrath of Zeus, while Nagata (who won the White Division last season) has yet to break into the win column four matches into the season. George Mastachas (1-3) def. Eugene Nagata (0-4) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 21:11. More of the same here, but three minutes longer. It took Mahal twenty-four minutes to finally get a Full Metal Jacket applied (after about six attempts) to earn the victory. It was a close match, but a single implant DDT would keep Clay down for the three, to the surprise of many, and Blackfield keeps his momentum going after the first quarter of the season. McDonald quickly put an end to that chance with a Hang Over, and then spent the next four minutes making sure Ouilette would stay down after a finisher. Jean-Paul did try to make a match out of it but McDonald was just too much for him on this night. Brandy McDonald (3-1) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-3) via Pinfall ( ) in 14:42. This was actually Gibson’s best showing so far, keeping Chavinski on the defensive for a fair portion, but Vladimir eventually got tired of those shenanigans and finally got Gibson into a rear naked choke for the submission victory. Show may be pushed back up to a week. Technical issues with the game database seem to be cropping up, like at least two movesets that were fine last week having apparently regressed to earlier versions that have “illegal” finishers (Running Corner Low Blow Kick, Double Arm DDT, Twisting Face Crusher) that were in before I trimmed them down at the start of the season. Had to restart the Johnny Gross and Markus Clay matches after they’d nearly run the entire course because these showed up. Plus the owner of my apartment building has some contractor coming in again to work on our ceiling, and unlike the last four times this was scheduled the guy actually just showed up and wants to start with a spot that’s close enough to the computer that I have to sit elsewhere and not have the machine running. So I may not be able to get everything fixed and run today, I’m committed to other projects tonight, and work may interfere with doing it during the week as they’re pushing to make everyone go back physically to the office full time at the start of June “but would like you to come in earlier to readjust to office life after 14 months of working from home.” So I may not get the chance to do it on the side during slow periods.
