There’s two versions of the primary mod, with the 180hp and the 215hp versions on offer, and then the G3X mod on top of that. Very strong recommend on both.

Anime Store Adventure posted:Man, I really do need to hold myself to making a big Effort Post for mods for this game. It's a real shame they don't seem to want to let the Marketplace be essentially the "Nexusmods" for MSFS because there's already a ton of pretty good content that is impossible to find without absolutely crawling around every community site constantly. Ya, that’s pretty much my biggest complaint with FS thus far. A centralized repository for payware and mods with auto updates would be killer. Then they built it, and decided not to use it.

uXs posted:Any tips on taming the rudder? I remapped the clutch and the throttle from my Logitech G27 racing pedals into one virtual rudder with Gremlin and vJoy. You want a curve, IE: The first 50% of physical pedal movement maps to only 25% of virtual pedal movement, and the last 75% of virtual pedal movement is mapped to the last 50% of pedal movement. Most of the time you’re not making huge inputs to the rudder, so it’s ok to lose fine control over the top half of the range in order to gain fine control over the bottom half. Note that I’m not saying you actually want a 50% curve, I’d start with ~20% and adjust from there until it feels right. You can set up control curves for each axis under the sensitivity button on the left.

sigher posted:Does anyone have their flight sim gear on one of those purpose-built metal rigs that keep everything nice and solid? My Logitech Pro Flight pedals keep sliding around and it would be nice to not have to connect the yoke/throttle to the desk whenever I wanted to play. I've seen a couple of them on Amazon buy they're all pretty pricey, however it looks like they make the same type of thing for sim racing but they're a gently caress ton cheaper. Does anyone use one of the racing ones to save a buck? Is there any jank getting Flight Sim poo poo mounted to one? I’m in the middle of building a custom 80/20 Dual-purpose flight sim/racing rig. Once I get it nearer to done (waiting on parts) I’ll post some pics.

uXs posted:This is exactly what I want to do as well. Well, or buy one. The design of my rig will have me flying flight sims and general gaming with the seat all the way back. The stick center mounted, throttle on the left side, pedals bolted to the chassis floor. For racing, I remove the stick extension from the base, slide the seat all the way forward, and there is a second, elevated heel rest underneath inverted fanatec CSL pedals. It ends up putting me in a roughly GT1 type seating position, with the rudder pedals just forward and underneath my knees and out of the way. Monitor is going to be wall mounted with a swing arm for general gaming, but I plan on most simming to be done in VR. MrYenko fucked around with this message at 15:00 on Nov 7, 2020 |

Electrically and electronically, a spring detent on the last position is identical to a switch without. It’s literally just a physical spring on the last detent. The only reason not to do it is either parts sourcing ($$$) or the developers not being familiar with expected operation. It sounds more like an appropriate switch didn’t exist at the price point they wanted.

If you're not in already, you'll have to wait until the next time they open it up to try and get in. The closed alpha was run as a separate product on the MS store, only accessible if you were flagged for it through the Xbox Insider app. It was a real dumb way to do things, but it worked fine. My buddy got his Reverb G2 yesterday and is stoked to get motion sick as gently caress at 15fps in DCS since neither of us has been able to score a 30xx card yet. (He still has a loving 970.)

The G2 is nearly indistinguishable from a monitor. You still get blurring towards the edges of the display, but that’s due to the optics, not the resolution of the headset.

The DCS MI-8, KA-50, and UH-1 are pretty much the ultimate in helicopter realism at the moment, but the KA-50’s stabilization and coaxial aerodynamics make it a bit unique. The UH-1 is probably the most meat and potatos fling-wing sim there is right now. No assists, no stabilization, just cyclic and collective.

sigher posted:The menus look pretty jank in VR and launching the game via VR seems... odd. Can't wait though. I used to have a Vive Pro, sold it to get a Reverb G2. The Vive was a slightly higher quality piece of hardware, better build quality, etc, but Microsoft has really nailed the WMR front end. The software works flawlessly out of the box with just a simple calibration the first time, and virtual desktop is actually pleasant to use. ...Which is good, since your mouse cursor basically won’t work in anything if you don’t launch it through the WMR portal. What I’m saying is the Vive was always just very slightly janky. Occasional tracking problems, initialization problems, etc. Had to swap USB ports on the regular. The G2 has none of those issues, it Just Works.

Are there any "next gen" headsets even on the radar at this point? I’ve used a CV1, Vive, Vive Pro, and now the G2, and it makes the others look amateurish in everything but controller design (which i don’t use the majority of the time anyway.) The Reverb G2 is the first headset that I’d say is there now. The resolution bump was absolutely critical to being able to read instruments, taxiway signs, etc. Screen door is no longer an issue at all.

Sagebrush posted:Not a turbine expert but I understand that turbines can still get some sort of intake icing. Anywhere you have air compressing and expanding, there's a chance of temperature changes and moisture condensing out of the air and there's your ice. You can get inlet lip icing, which is bad because if the inlet sheds any of that ice, half of it is headed for the delicate innards of the rapidly-spinning compressor. Similarly the 727 has heaters on all of its dorsal antenna (which is very not-normal) to prevent ice formation, since ice on a VHF antenna breaking off and FODing out #2 is bad for the dispatch rate.

In third person it's easy to get where the ground is relative to the plane, when to flare, when it's safe to break, etc. It makes me feel like a kid trying to drive a car who can just barely look over the dash. You shouldn’t be looking at the ground anyway. When you learn to land, you’re building a mental sight picture of what it looks like when the airplane is say, 10-15ft off the runway. Then you flare, pull the power all the way back, and let the aircraft settle onto the runway. Kindof like shooting a rifle, touchdown should surprise you rather than being sought out.

Sagebrush posted:Does VATSIM even have controllers operating in India? In the US, Prohibited areas (of which there are comparatively few, and tend to be physically smallish,) are generally permanent. Restricted (over land) and Warning (over the ocean) airspace is sterile when active, with no non-participating aircraft permitted. The US also uses Military Operating Areas, commonly referred to as MOAs which IFR aircraft are separated from, but through which VFR traffic is permitted to operate. Warning areas, restricted areas, and MOAs are all only generally active when they’re actually being used, and are released to civilian traffic otherwise. After 9/11, the US also sprouted quite a few TFRs (Temporary Flight Restriction) that are now old enough to vote. This is dumb, but it’s how the security apparati have gotten around the requirements for public review when creating new Prohibited airspace.

lobsterminator posted:Joystick twist is the worst possible way to control rudder. You need to be able to keep the rudder in a position while simultaneously move the stick and that is near impossible by twisting. I use a thumb knob in my throttle to control rudder. My ancient X45 had a rudder rocker on the bottom of the throttle, and I always thought that was a cool idea. I think people that have throttles but not pedals are probably a solid minority though.

Ya, a real DA62 has AE300s, which are FADEC diesels. You set power with the load percentage, and the computer does the rest. FS2020 doesn’t really simulate most engines properly, and FADEC is one of those things it doesn’t do well.

Sagebrush posted:The graphics in the game aren't even that cutting-edge for video games in general. They are leagues beyond anything else in any other flight simulator, of course, but that's because the flight simulator graphics situation is dire. A turbine heat distortion effect is trivial to add; that's like a one-click shader these days. Dynamic lighting and shadowing are also pretty much automatic with any modern game engine. So it doesn't surprise me that they were able to build in a lot of nice graphical effects but didn't do a good job simulating intricate avionics. The elephant farting quietly in the dark corner of the room is the fact that this thing is apparently still based on FSX code. Which of course is based on 2004. Which is based on 2002. Which is based on 2000. loving thing must be an absolute spaghetti nightmare.
