I really don't get Ubi's pricing. The Ultimate Editions for PC cost about $160 aussie dollars each while Uplay+ costs $20 per month.

They’re probably expecting people to sub and then forget they were subbed and keep raking in that subscription money, same as people with Netflix, gym memberships, etc.

I’ve played both the previous games three times each and I don’t really like any other current Ubisoft games, so the subscription isn’t as good for someone like me. I wonder how many people are actually subbed?

Sure, Marcus' pool ball applies a lot of blunt force trauma to the head, which is very much not good for the health.
But what about Agent 47's chokeout? Asphyxiating someone to extended unconsciousness is super bad for the brain, realistically you're looking at permanent brain damage if they survive.
And Sam Fisher's knockout darts? What if they're on a medication that reacts to the knockout drug, or aren't the right size/weight for the standard dose? The complications could easily be lethal, there's a good reason why anesthesia operations are closely monitored.
Or Corvo from Dishonored? All of the above, plus they might get eaten by rats.
Spiderman kicks dudes off buildings but apparently also shoots web to make them stick/dangle rather than fall to their death.

Yakuza Zero is about a low level Yakuza member who is framed for murder, so naturally he would clear his name by not murdering anyone:

Likewise, the Xbox game pass is $10 a month and there's a shitload of new releases on there. Got to play a lot of games that I would have bought on steam, played for 3-6 hours, and never touched again. And saved hundreds of dollars. Even if I leave it subbed and don't install another game for the next year, I'll have still saved money.

My guess about this game is that it will be divisive because the lack of a central main character with narrative. Some people really need that to play single player games. Others won't care.

Apparently this is AC: Unity levels of broken on console:

quote:

I’ve been reviewing video games for over seven years now, and yet Watch Dogs: Legion may actually be the most broken game I’ve ever encountered. Sure, I know of Ubisoft’s reputation for releasing games with bugs (and any other Ubi game I’ve played has been after its release), but usually those were limited to a few amusing things like ships rocketing into the air. This is Assassin’s Creed: Unity levels of brokenness, though, if not somehow moreso. It could possibly be the most unfinished, unpolished game I’ve seen from them, at least from a technical standpoint.

Things are so bad Ubisoft has extended the review embargo beyond release as there's a hard crash that's overheating X1X's and preventing progress. loving hell.

I didn't encounter the latter but I can confirm that in the second half of the game, I had to reset the game a couple of times to make sure objectives would be interactable. Also, a couple of cutscenes froze the console, I had some "normal" crash to home screen moments and the music/radio in the cars sometimes stopped working.

Goddammit, when it appeared in the trailer I hoped it was just narration thrown in for the trailer itself, it gave me bad flashbacks to the "witty" guy in the AC games who ruined the history writeups for locations/events by throwing in constant "quips" throughout every single entry, and made the already lovely modern day sections even more tedious by having to sit through his dialogue.

To be fair it depends on how easy that bug is to replicate.

A bug that bricks 1 in 100 consoles may not show up in testing by the time the game ships.

It sounds like her console could have a ventilation problem which was the real issue. It isn't like games can make things work at 110%, as much, a game can make a console run at 100% capacity.

Yeah, to be fair you can't simply account for obscure edge case situations like playing the campaign beyond the first few hours on a major platform.

That may only affect a small minority of players and may have not shown up on testing units.

It's a pretty big thing to miss but these things unfortunately do happen. Especially with a horribly mismanaged development like this game obviously had.

Edit: apparently it overheated the console, didn't brick it https://twitter.com/kezamacdonald/status/1321410592226365440?s=19

This is the kind of thing that happens when they fail to optimize for what the hardware can actually handle and is usually a lot more random.

Austin Walker at Vice (a pretty firm socialist) has a review up and doesn't have any major criticisms of the story: https://www.vice.com/en/article/pkdy5y/watch-dogs-legion-review. Though in general is review is frustrating because if you follow his work it would seem like WD:L is a game made for him personally, but he's pretty negative based on some rather petty niggles (basically "it's not a realistic vision of a popular movement that can overthrow the government" and "it doesn't totally replicate the full gamut of human emotional interaction", and my response to that would be "no poo poo").
