Outside of a quick WD40 wipe the rotor is untreated for rust prevention.

Glad the box got there in one piece, hope I didn't hit you with too much stuff available at your local stores. Wasn't sure if Bavarian Meats had made their way down there yet, pretty sure I'm safe with the salami.

It's the buzzer I love the most. Makes me feel alive. Makes the V8's dead.
A box arrived the other week and has been waiting under my tree until Christmas eve.

Inside was a collection of items from Minneapolis. Some tea, teabags, a tea towel and a play book among others. I've actually been to Minneapolis for work before, the flour museum was neat.

Also a nice note:

Thanks nitsuga!

I work blocks away from that museum, so I'll have to check it out in a couple years I guess. In the meantime, enjoy the fruits of this city, that tea is very addictive and so is Kendama.

Here we have a set of HID lamps for my 944! Should work but the car's in storage until spring so those will have to wait to go on. Excited to install those, though! Also some great socks (I'm too cheap to buy cool socks for myself so I rely on others to buy them for me), some 10mm sockets for when I inevitably lose mine, and a metric fuckton of stickers (many of which have already made their way to my toolbox and shelves). I had to fight both my wife and daughter off for the 'no dumb here' one. A great patch, too.

Thanks Motronic!!!

Sorry santee, it’s probably gonna be a New Years gift with how well aus post ‘works’ at the moment!
Absolutely no need to apologise Ferremit, this year has been poo poo and you still got it delivered before the day.

Ferremit sent me a whole bunch of swag, including paperweights, stickers and souvenirs from the Oodnadatta/Birdsville trails (plus a mcm service interval sticker), a 1/4"/3/8" driven hex bit set and local honey!

A lovely handwritten note explains the contents:

quote:

Hey Ephphatha!

I hope that 2020 has been as gentle as possible to you and you've survived it the best you can.

I hunted high & low for a set of 1/4" drive allen sockets but I don't think they exist in a full 1/4" set so I got you the next best thing.

I have also included for you the following treasures:

1x Large piston, broken. Proof that Toyota diesels are, in fact, not bulletproof. Pulled from my mates 92 cruiser. Engine ran flawlessly despite the piston cracking through both compression rings.

1x small piston. Exhibit A on why torque specs are important. Came from my Stihl 660 magnum after the head bolts backed off, it drew air in under the cylinder & leaned out.

1x set of main bearings from my 100 series. Car did 100k km on those shells with no odd noises or performance issues.

1x fluffy stubby holder. Only available from one place in Oodnadatta.

1x rail spike from the original Gahn line across the SA deserts north of Maree.

1x jar of honey. My dad's an amateur apiarist. This honey is 100% pure & is simply filtered and packed.

I hope that the festive season treats you well and 2021 is a good year for you.

Merry Christmas, Ferremit.

Close up shots of the carnage:

Crack on the cruiser piston, impressive failure given the engine still ran :stare:

Decent scoring on the chainsaw piston as well, its done a good job of becoming one with the rings.

Thank you Ferremit, everything is much appreciated. I know how much of a pain in the dick it is to look for a full 1/4" drive bit set (the main reason I hadn't bought one). It's only really the 4mm I need in 1/4" drive and I ended up buying a 3/8" torque wrench a while back so that set will be perfect. I also go through more honey than I should so I'll definitely enjoy your dads bees spit :v:. That stubby holder is amazing too, definitely gonna be my primary from now on! Definitely hoping 2021 is better for you and yours, we've had enough poo poo going on in 2020 to last a while.

The very next day I also received a surprise gift from slothrop, thanks heaps :D

The main event is a bottle of Arran single malt scotch(!), also included are some whiskey rocks, a credit card multitool, P2 mask (and surgical mask underneath), a couple of air fresheners, an issue of Classic Wings (which looks really interesting, I've read a couple of pages so far but I'll sit down and finish it off tomorrow), and a leather scrap which I assume is some packaging material but I wasn't 100% sure. If that's meant to be formed into something then I might need instructions :v:. The multitool is pretty useful, I've already (possibly ill-advised) sharpened the "knife" edge and that's found a place in my wallet. I've been meaning to get some whiskey stones so they're greatly appreciated.

Turbo Fondant posted:

Hey Santee :v:. I was holding off responding as I was hoping the rest of the redbubble stuff would have got here by now but they ended up splitting the order in two... The part 2 referred to in the email is actually gonna be the third box to get there. It was sent from Australia so who knows when you'll actually get it, sorry for the delay. There's a note included in the box I sent that should explain the contents but I can definitely elaborate for the few more esoteric things :D

The rotor is a 100% genuine ex-race part that is dead as hell; spun bearing killed the ID. Shame too because N 12A rotors have gotten hard to find.

I was informed I could find northern treats, relays, a GENUINE POWERFIST 10mm and something called supoon - along with a close enough replica of my 944. It is a small bucketfull of awesomeness. Almost none of which I could get here.

(the relays are nice, fused and everything and absolutely will end up being used. I'll lose the 10mm ASAP.)

Also a local dipping sauce recipe that I'm going to need to make as well as some local paraphernalia and some 100% perfect safety magnets.

Geez, Some Ryobi Green lookin stuff in there

Did you just gift me the Might Car Mods Beginner Ryobi set? :P

You must peruse the Aliexpress thread as I in the past month have purchased a Makita knockoff 1/2in gun, and a Reciprocating Saw. I laughed so hard when I saw what was you sent! Now I have REAL tools!

Those long spanners are loving neato, I haven't ever gotten around to getting some after the last lot were left in a car I sold. Knowing a bit about their history makes them even more special.

Now I went back and read the spoiler text in CAT INTERCEPTOR'S PM to me, it's easier to quote:

quote:

You should find the long handled spanners to be highly useful and tough as gently caress. They were my primary set for three years working on cars at the WRC events we went to. You can whale on them to your hearts content and being long they have great leverage

The Ryobi Impact 1/2inch gun I kinda guess you might have one of already but accept this one as either soemthing to tinker with or use it as a car tool kit. It has undone thousands of bolts / nuts and while it is battered and hard used, it works very well still

The Ryobi multitool was only used once. It is a fantastic thing to cut and slice with that I had thought about selling - either way do as you will with it - why am I passing it on? Because I got two of them and frankly I dont need two now! Long story

And finally a battery powered Sawall. Useful? Yes. Used? Not much. I got given a corded one. On a propert as I believe you are on, you might find this one useful.

I am over the moon mate, now time to buy some empty One+ battery shells to populate with the copious 18650 cells I have or make some battery packs!

Funnily enough two packages from Aliexpress arrived today too... A Makita knockoff air inflator... that doesn't fit any of my Makita batteries :( And a battery shell for me to spot weld my own cells into for my 1/2inch gun.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

We sell a good selection of Bravado (and Melinda) sauces where I work. They don't exactly sell well (I think I wind up restocking those shelves once or twice a month), but I think that's more because the stuff sold on those 3 shelves are more of a boutique item. Gonna have to try that blueberry one ASAP (I stocked a case of it yesterday :v:). To give some perspective on how (un)popular they are - when we did that reset, we packed the shelves completely full. I've had to pull some stuff because it went out of date. You'd think most hot sauce has at least a 2 year shelf life thanks to the vinegar, but some of it is as short as 6-9 months. It looks like we've cut the reorder threshold way down, I don't get cases in until there's only 1-5 left now.

It's not because they're not amazing - it's because your average grocery store customer doesn't want really tasty fire. :sigh:

We used to have a dedicated hot sauce shop just outside of downtown (6th St - the party district basically), but they went to online-only early in September. :smith: Their retail storefront is empty and up for rent.

I can for some Ryobi - not sure if they suit the One+. I ended up buying a charger and 5Ah for a decent price on Aussie eBay so I can get rolling with them. With Makita I get shells then spot weld up the internal structure of 18650s. A mate came over at lunch and saw the tools and asked if I'm prepping to sell some stolen tradies tools hahaha! The spanners will be handy when I have to take another alternator out of one of the commodores. they are in a poo poo of a spot. End up having to get at them from above and below, then one person wiggles them out and then up through where the air intake is and narrowly avoiding all the main loom to the fuse box.
