The fact that FaWS portrayed almost every character as victims of the status quo in a sense (as well as their endorsement of the flagsmashers' motivations and ideals) left me feeling a little dissapointed that a stern talking to from Sam was the extent of corrective action (aside from the attempted kidnapping of course). I'd have preferred to see the main GRC guy face some sort of actual consequence beyond his brief moments of fearful helplessness, considering how many "regular" people have died while he stays a powerful influential decision maker (who seems downright irritated that he should be expected to consider the needs of the people he's forcefully relocating).

That being said, the fact that the "powers that be" are ultimately left safe and intact (even as the various folks neglected by those systems kill each other) is pretty powerful and accurate too. Also, as much as I wanted more from Sam than saving some cops and politicians and giving a speech, I did like his speech. Especially the inevitability of more unrest and violence directed at them (the GRC) if they didnt correct course. Often people I speak with regarding real socioeconomics think I am advocating a violent purge of the wealthiest and most powerful, whereas I simply point to it as an inevitability (in popular sentiment if not action). Desperate marginalized people will do whatever they have to do to survive, and no amount of condemnation will temper the danger of people experiencing desperation and hunger.

*edit* Imagine one of the characters faced with say, saving either the GRC head or some rando kid, and letting that dude eat it while giving him a "somebody's gotta make the tough decisions" line as a mirror of power leaving people behind.

More romantic intimacy might be what you want, but I dont see how the lack of it is anything but a completely subjective critique. Are you suggesting that it is hard to find that sort of thing in media (I would disagree), or that the MCU has some sort of particular responsibility to portray it?

I have no love for Disney, and as much as I do enjoy these films and shows I dont want to rush to fanboy defensiveness. It's just more often than not I find romantic (and especially sexual) content either doesn't add anything special, or worse is sort of cynically "going blue" for lack of more interesting content.

I know my statement is just as subjective, I just prefer to get my fix of human sexuality from the source (or straight up porn).

That you don’t find this an issue is more, rather than less alarming, as it suggests you have already been transformed.

Thanks for responding. These are the only movies I've seen in theaters in many many years, and I'm sure I've watched all of them at least three times. So either I've already indeed been "transformed" by these movies about comic book characters.... OR what you said is as insane as it seems.

So the reason for the importance of the watch is never revealed beyond linking it to a list of Hawkeyes family?

Also, (SMNWH) why does redeeming the villians save them, if they were dead in their realities what does their post mortem change of heart accomplish?

Also I'm a big Steve Rogers stan, and musicals make me physically ill. The after credits sequence is now the only MCU content I haven't watched. Just horrifying.

I suppose it's not really something I should scrutinize... magic + comic book rules explains anything.

With the MCUs ability and willingness to diverge from the comic, thematically in the show it makes sense for Jake to be a (recent?) reaction to the stress of the events we've seen. Marc "creates" steve out of guilt and a desire for a peaceful life, and when they are both pushed to the limit by their circumstances and the strife between them (him), a new aspect is born of pure primal savage survival.

The movie shows us multiple times that the Darkhold corrupts people by giving them what they want but causing them to dark and darker path to persue it. Illuminati Strange saw where it was taking him so he had the rest of them kill him before he did something terrible, Dark Strange on the other hand was more than happy to embrace that path. Wanda had been pushed further and further along that path the entire time between WandaVision and MoM. They must have felt the audiance was smart enough to watch the movie and listen to the dialog to figure out what happens. If Wanda had not gotten her hands on the Darkhold she would have never tried to kill America Chavez or anything because the book would have never tempted her and shown her a path. Its stated clearly in the dialog in the film by Wong when the arrive at Wundagore that the Darkhold is a conduit to Cthon, and its entire existance was to get into Wanda's hand so she could become the Scarlet Witch.

Is it just I've read and seen so many things with corruption happening that this is all abundantly clear to me and other people aren't as versed? I mean so much of Warhammer lore is based around people geting a Chaos artifact and ending up corrupted and doing horrible, horrible things.

Yeah!

That sounds lame as hell (the latter) glad I haven't been exposed to that version.

Yeah I got the impression he gets everybody he knows (inadvertently) killed. If I remember correctly, one I read had him pursued by like a half dozen ghosts of friends (unsure if they were real or imagined), he's just sitting in a train car with his head in his hands while they give him a dress down for running from his problems.... so he jumps from the train and awakes in the hospital. In another moment of wallowing in depression he is fleeing some kind of apparition that keeps taking form in pursuit of him. I don't know anything about comics Thor and even I'm disappointed at how the Warriors Three got done dirty.

Yeah. Honestly not the biggest fan of the lost vikings myself but it seemed personal the way they offed them without ceremony. Well except for hogun, but poor valstad and fandral got treated like faceless henchmen, guess they were OK using them to build a sense of dread regarding Hela. Wish they'd been given a bit more reverence. Still I much prefer taika's thor movies to the first two in every way othor than seeing Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Seeing him dress down thor was great and very reminiscent of the comics (especially considering thor's warrior madness during infinity crusade as a result of Odins various mindfuck punishments).

Yeah when I realized they weren't treating MODOK with proper reverence I stormed right out of the theater. Blasphemous.

I liked when Pym appears with his ant army. I leaned over to my gf and said "He's pissed that so many people in the quantum realm hosed his wife and he's had enough of their poo poo!"

TF&WS introducing a bunch of idealist young people who take things into their own hands and put themselves at risk to help the marginalized, and then killing them all off was rough. I spin it at "the most likely scenario" and hope/pretend that's the message they were trying to get across. Sam giving an impassioned speech was very captain America, but so not nearly enough that it simply challenged my captain America fandom.

Adam warlock, loaded with DMT and LSD, follows his kismet trail in between order and chaos straight into fate's chimney. Suddenly all Kangs burst and "hatch" a magus who establishes the Church of Intergalactic Truth. Adam warlock sees it, making him scrunch his face up and exclaim "BWAAAAAAHHHHH?!?!?!?"

Too bad the fun infinity war doppelganger stuff is too similar to skull secret invasion stuff.

I've heard way too many* "I don't know, the little mermaid is white why make her black?"s from people I expected to know better. It's hard to react to it civily.

*one is too many btw

Like I don't give these corporations any credit for pandering to demographics and sociopolitical shifts in the interest of profit (is there a word for this? Is b"uy M&Ms if you support women"... woke-washing?) But "Disney just made Ariel black to upset me people, how dare they" is just a really horrifyingly sad thing to hear.
