i won’t lie this is just research and i’m totally gonna steal ideas from this but au also think it’s safe to assume we’ve got some pro knob options here knurled? shiny? metal? ceramic? wood? perhaps you like those chicken head ones what do you like as a backing? is it acceptable for them to be motorised ? digitally encoded or directly rotating a potentiometer ? freewheeling ? aluminium vs platinum-iridium post about knobs itt

all my ham radios have adjustable drag via setscrew or lever. Some old farts fill the voids in them with lead so they're heavier. I'm ok with stock, though.

Yeah. The big desktop radios have a flat head set screw you can turn in/out to adjust the drag (it's usually a spring + lever setup). My little portable shortwave rig doesn't have that, so it just has a lever, as you pull it down the drag increases. It's actually pretty important; when you're camping and are 7 beers deep and want to tune around on the radio you don't want a twitchy dial knob because you WILL accidentally tap it and go off channel, so you unlock it to SPIN THE DIAL, as they say, and find a person to talk to, then you crank the tension down so the knob doesn't spin in the breeze.
