Oh hi Comstar, are you feeling more stable about COVID now days?

I would say I was right- we needed to go into a hard lockdown and block the borders. There was a distinct lack of urgency and taking this thing seriously for a month between Janurary and March last year, both by Scomo in the Federal level and this very thread.

The Federal LNP STILL doesn't want to take any responsibility for Quarantine after a year because it's a disaster and that would be hard and they are quite happy for the States to get blamed for each, inevitable, outbreak. We have an entire state going into Stage IV lockdown and jobseeker is going back to normal.

Still, it let me work from home for a few months, traffic was GONE once I had to go back, and now we're in lockdown again, I'm able to work from home for a week or two. We didn't get the complete catastrophe other countries did/are/still going through, so we were both lucky and the various levels of government and business finally took action just as it was getting a bit late. NZ took the right approach and we were 2-4 weeks behind and several hundred dead still.

When everyone accused me of panicking, infection rates were doubling every 3 days. So, yes, I'm more "stable" now. I'm still surprised the LNP didn't do a Trump and take the whole thing as not worth the number must go up rather than worrying about it enough to decide to take some drastic action instead that saved a lot of our lives.

Victoria went directly to stage IV lockdown from Stage I in 4 days. There's no way in hell you would have seen that a year ago. We all learnt something this last 12 months.

A third report has come out that the Prime Minister Did Not Know About.

https://twitter.com/samanthamaiden/status/1363452656811925506?s=20

The Australian is really gunning for him (The PM I mean).

Via Reddit thread

quote:

According to the account of the latest woman to come forward, the former male staffer — who was working in a minister’s office — bought several rounds of “double strength” vodkas and three tequila shots for the woman over the course of a night. She says she had never been drunk before and vomited in the nightclub bathroom. Soon after she was alone with the staffer and told him she was going to call an Uber and go home.

According to her account, the then staffer told her his hotel was “around the comer” and he could “look after me”. They went back to his room and, while laying on his bed, she passed out.

She alleges that she woke up, with her button-up blouse opened and her jeans pushed down and the staffer “lying on top of me” although she can’t be clear as to whether he was “conscious or sleeping”. She fled the room and went to the hotel lobby toilet and noticed “I was bleeding”, before going home.

“I believe his actions on the night of 29 June and the morning of 30 June constitute sexual assault, because he performed or tried to perform sexual acts on me whilst I was severely intoxicated and unable to provide valid and informed consent,’’ she said.

The young woman — who had not had sex before — did not go to police or tell friends or family.

“I was severely embarrassed about it and felt dirty and ashamed and I didn’t want to tell anyone,’’ she told The Australian.

“I later realised I was so drunk, I was not able to give any consent.

“Hearing Brittany Higgins’ story, it was so eerily similar, it made me think this person has a pattern of behaviour.’’

quote:

In the past fortnight, and especially last week, global money markets have cratered and interest rates have soared. For many, it's a shrug-your-shoulders incident, an obscure and esoteric event that has little bearing on everyday life.

The health crisis caused by COVID-19 was a once-in-a-century event. The financial cost of 2020 has been millions of jobs, countless businesses, and soaring debt and deficits.

Except it isn't. What has just occurred could have a profound impact on our future. It has the potential to delay and possibly derail the economic recovery now underway across the developed world. And, if it continues, it will wreak havoc with global stock markets during the next few months.

It also is a direct assault on the power and authority of central banks, including our own Reserve Bank. For the past year, across the globe, they've acted in unison, throwing everything at their disposal at an unseen enemy in a desperate effort to stave off the most serious economic collapse in more than a century.

Suddenly, they've been left bruised and bloodied, run down by a growing mob that has flagrantly ignored their predictions and overturned their view of the world and our future.

The Money Markets are all betting that inflation will go up. Central banks are spending taxpayers money on it not. And Wages Will Not Go Up Because That's Government Policy. So inflation hasn't happened, isn't happening and won't happen.

So who exactly is wrong here? I need someone to explain this too me.

Is the Covid vaccine supposed to be free? As part of being a 1B group member, I got to call a local GP to get the jab as the media calls it, next week. But the GP is not my normal bulk billing one (who is not doing it). They told me when I called "it's an appointment to see the doctor for an evaluation". I found them on the government website as it's the same suburb.

But I've now read that some doctor's are not fully covering the cost via bulk billing but the Federal Government is saying it should be. That's assuming of course that they even HAVE the supply available next week, as we've only got 200,000 doses for the entire country - so most GP's are going to run out the very first day.

And thanks to Scummo's complete incompetence and lack of leadership, it will be till next year before they can. So we have about 9 months to get a pay rise before the gate is shut.

Labor MP says a NSW government MP raped female sex worker

quote:

A male MP in the Berejiklian government is under police investigation for allegedly raping a female sex worker at a secluded lookout in the Blue Mountains.

The allegations were first made public by Labor MP Trish Doyle in NSW Parliament on Wednesday afternoon. She told the Parliament the sex worker did not consent to penetrative sex and although was initially reluctant to go to the police, she has since reported the matter and it is now being investigated.
Labor MP Trish Doyle says she was contacted about the alleged sexual assault 18 months ago.

NSW Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway into the incident, saying detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad are examining allegations of sexual violence against a woman in the Blue Mountains in September 2019.

“The matter was reported and referred to the squad in late September 2020 and has been under investigation since,” the police statement said. “As the inquiries are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide any further details.”

Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s office refused to comment.

The Blue Mountains MP said she was contacted by the woman 18 months ago, who told Ms Doyle that she had made contact with a male client via the adult classified website Locanto.

The male was on his way home from Sydney, Ms Doyle said, and wanted to meet the woman.

The man was offering $200 for “oral sex only”, Ms Doyle told Parliament on Wednesday.

“She tells me she made herself clear that she was not willing to have penetrative sex with him, however towards the end the man moved around behind her and assaulted her in a way she had not consented to,” Ms Doyle said.

“In her emails to me she said that once the assault began she just wanted it to finish. It was an assault, and it was against her explicit instructions, she did not consent, it was rape.”

Ms Doyle said the woman is “hurt and angry that this powerful man felt entitled to assault her”.

“She remains fearful that this powerful man will seek reprisals against her for reporting this rape,” Ms Doyle said.

“This fear, hurt and anger is not something that any woman should be made to feel but it is all the worse that this man who raped her is a government member of this chamber.”

Ms Doyle said before the alleged incident, the woman had “messaged back and forth” with the man who told her about “his important job and his significant workload”.

“This fear, hurt and anger is not something that any woman should be made to feel but it is all the worse that this man who raped her is a government member of this chamber,” she told Parliament.

Some Labor MPs said they did not know Ms Doyle was intending to make the revelations in Parliament.

Sitting behind her in the chamber were deputy Labor leader Yasmin Catley and Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison.

The shock revelations come as the federal government grapples with the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins by a Liberal staff and accusations Attorney-General Christian Porter raped a teenager decades ago in Sydney.

The man is in the lower house of NSW Parliament. Someone wanna check whose wikipedia page is getting furiously updated/reset?

What external border gently caress-ups? If you're talking about the Ruby Princess that was brought under control pretty quick and nobody who didn't contract COVID on the ship died from it.

As of Wednesday, about one in every 10 cases of coronavirus in Australia could be linked to the Ruby Princess..

quote:

Fast-forward more than a month and NSW recorded eight Ruby Princess passenger deaths and of the state's 2,971 coronavirus cases, almost 13 per cent were linked to the ship.

Tasmanian authorities said it was most likely a Ruby Princess passenger with a confirmed case of COVID-19 that led to an outbreak of 114 cases in the state's north west.

Two Ruby Princess passengers died at the North-West Regional Hospital and the 114 infections were spread between North-West and its associated private hospital.

A third Ruby Princess passenger also died in Hobart and there have been 19 other confirmed coronavirus cases linked to the Ruby Princess across Tasmania. Overall, infections from the cruise make up more than 10 per cent of the state's cases.
...
There would be 20.1 per cent fewer coronavirus cases in the ACT if it weren't for the Ruby Princess.
...
One of the seven people who have died in Western Australia was a Ruby Princess passenger and 53 other cases have been linked to the voyage, representing nearly 10 per cent of all cases.

In Queensland, three passengers have died and Ruby Princess infections make up around 8 per cent of all cases.

In the top end, a Darwin couple was diagnosed with COVID-19 after returning from the cruise, representing 7 per cent of the state's cases.

Lastly, Victoria has the lowest proportion of infections from the ship by population (2 per cent) and has no passenger deaths.

That was dated 23rd of April last year.

The Ruby Princess outbreak infected 663 Australians on board and led to 28 deaths, including 20 domestically and eight in the United States.

Now that report went on to blame the ENTIRE thing on NSW Heath, so well done Dutton, well done. And we had much worse outbreaks later, but this was completely avoidable if the man in charge of quarantine and border "protection" and the Government Leadership of this country had done his job like we (but not you it seems) expect them too.

quote:

The federal government absolutely deserves the blame it gets for jockeying at state border closures and the Victorian lockdown, but also deserves more credit than it gets for its early interventions, IMO.

What, say, like New Zealand did? If we'd closed the borders we'd have had a much larger impact like NZ did. Sure there would have been outbreaks...but if the Fed Government had done it's job the quarantine would have been done at purpose made facilities instead of whatever Hotel chain needed cash for it's owners.

quote:

We live in a COVID-free country, our systems have improved to the point that it'll stay that way, and I'm not fussed whether we get the vaccine next week or next year.

Did...you not hear the news today? Brisbane COVID case confirmed to be UK variant with link to Princess Alexandra Hospital cluster

quote:

Queensland Health said the genomic testing confirmed the man had the B117 variant, also known as the UK strain.

Authorities are now investigating how he contracted the virus, but say it is likely he caught it from an unidentified intermediary.

So this is the UK version that's twice as deadly and it's broken containment. It's not going to cause an outbreak across the country like the Ruby Princess disaster did, but I expect the borders to QLD will be closed by VIC if they don't track it down in the next 1-2 days. If just one person got it and walked through Tullarmarine we will be back in lockdown next Monday.

And you can now walk through Tullarmarine without a mask.

And we need to continue to do this until the vaccine rollout is completed...which right now won't be till May next year.

An announcement was made at the Geelong-Brisbane game on Friday that anyone that had come from Brisbane or the Moreton Bay area and who was in the crowd must leave the venue and self-isolate. AFL stars and commentators Luke Hodge and Wayne Carey have done so.

Those who entered Victoria since 12 March were also advised to get a coronavirus test within 72 hours, and stay isolated until they receive a negative result.

The Victorian Department of Health said they would be contacting anyone who entered the state from the City of Brisbane and Moreton Bay Region since March 12 to “advise them of their obligations”.

They sent a tweet and made an announcement at a Football match, which I'm sure everyone from Brisbane will get right on getting tested. And we just removed nearly all the restrictions in Victoria (beyond Health care and public transport)

To answer your question - not be in a state going back to having to wear a mask everywhere and be without a lockdown. The one thing I did like was the complete lack of traffic and my commute was cut in half. The office was a lot quieter too.

If we're very very lucky it didn't get here, but we just invited a few 1000 people FROM BRISBANE down here, removed most mask wearing and limiting people at locations, and it's been nearly 2 weeks since it could have got here.

Now, this may actually NOT be a Federal Government fuckup..but if we have proper containment facilities built..I don't know...6 months ago...we might not have had this possible disaster occurring.

And with the fuckup of the vaccine rollout, we have to keep being very very lucky for another year. It probably won't kill or infect as many people THIS time, but only because the State governments will lock down a lot faster than they did this time last year.
