I live in a country that pays proper wages and dealers are not allowed to accept tips. I would theoretically tip them but only if I won a huge amount.

Depends what style of mask you wear. If you're going for mild mannered and conscientious, tipping might reinforce your brand. For a more the brash and aggressive look, ya maybe it's a waste of money

Most tables the dealer makes more than everyone there, yah. And they are entitled as hell about it. But you gotta do it. MGM used to have tables with this little lip, your chips in front of you would be a little down off the main felt. I'd been playing wsop tournies and satellites all day, decided to go do a little cash at MGM (bum hunting at MGM 1-2 is my speed). I'm doing pretty good, taking hands down left and right. Hand comes, heavy action, I absolutely nail the flop, this guy bets hard into me. I'm gonna shove in but there's this loving lip, so I grab my stacks and drop them boom boom up onto the felt. Dealer calls me for a string bet! Says only the little stack counts not the one with all the big chips. I go ripshit... why is this dude doing this to me? Then realize I haven't been tipping this whole time haha. Playing tournies all day (where you don't tip), and I've just been on autopilot. I call the floor over, explain the whole thing, and she loving laughs and says he could have said only the first chip counted, not even one of the stacks. They got all kinds of games they can play, need dealers on your side, or at least not against you.

Tipping people feels real good. When you put a dollar in the jar for take out they seem genuinely happy. I would want the person dealing me bad beats to feel happy too so he would deal me less beats. But that's just me.

MY INEVITABLE DEBT posted:u oughta try winning so ur not such a lil bitch about $2 Okay, here's my peanut gallery take. I've only been to a Real Casino once, as a slightly belated 21st birthday present from my dad. He and I came in with a lot of money we'd saved up, fully knowing that we'd probably just keep playing until we spent it all. When we were rolling hot, or hit an ace on the river, or even just got a dirty 21? Tip time. It's because my dad's kind of superstitious about his gambling but, like. Even if it didn't change anything? Even though we still walked out $[money] poorer with nothing to show for it? Some of those dealers were really sad to see us leave their tables and really happy to see us come back. Manipulative? Maybe. Favoritism? Only in a social sense, we still got womped. But it made some people happy, gave them a Good Day they could tell their coworkers about later. "Yeah, Janey once had a father/daughter pair at $2.50/$5 blackjack who tipped like $100 in total by the end of their first night." "Woah, really?" "Oh, I remember them! The daughter was chainsmoking Camel Filters, right?" "That's them! I think they must have dropped like $500 by the end of the holiday weekend on whatever tables they were having fun at." "Yeah, they came by my table, too! They were both boozed up to the gills and the daughter had terrible table etiquette, but it was really hard to care once I realized they gave me $10 total every time they rolled boxcars." I'd rather be that person than the one who walks out a tiny bit richer during a "we're burning it all anyways" vacation. And if you're going into anything but a poker tournament expecting to turn a profit, you should go talk to someone about the excuses you're making for your gambling problem. girl dick energy fucked around with this message at 05:47 on Jan 16, 2021 |

I think your play is often rated (much) better if you are a good tipper, although I bet a lot of that is getting automated. Would like to hear from casino folks on that. Strong sauce, he didn't have to give her any signal, i straight up told her in front of the table "this guy is trying to gently caress me cus Ive been forgetting to tip" hahaha. Maybe not the best move.

I always wondered about this and maybe some of the dealers can help out. I always tip in poker if I win a hand. I have a friend who will only tip the dealer if he is up for the night. If he is down money he refuses to tip. I feel like tipping is because I appreciate the work they are doing win or lose. What’s the standard on that?

Almost everyone including me tip the dealer no matter if we are up or down for the night. It’s kind of lovely IMO to not tip just because you’re losing. Tipping is just included in the cost of playing poker for me. Mind_Taker fucked around with this message at 19:04 on Jan 16, 2021 |

this is a really interesting thread. i'm not a gambler and have never stepped foot inside a casino so i never knew tipping the dealer was a thing. at first impression it seems different than tipping waitstaff or a bartender since the stakes are higher and the dealer is supposed to be totally impartial. a bartender giving me extra service is different than having the rules interpreted in my favor. it feels more like buying my boss a present instead of leaving 30% on a tab. is this a worldwide standard or another example of the US pushing employees' survival off the responsibility of employers and onto the backs of customers?

I've played in casinos in the US, and Ireland as a regular. I tipped in all those places. Everyone else tipped as well. I can't say it's standard worldwide though. In the US though it is definitely the latter.. dealers don't make a lot without tips but they probably do make more that waitresses depending on how well the players toke. Some gamblers tip for good luck, some tip to show appreciation to the dealer.Me getting more hands in poker is good for the game and good for the casino too so having someone who can deal fast, shuffle fast (although most poker games have a red/blue deck and one is constantly in the shuffler for the next hand), bring in the pot, evaluate who's won and push the pot. If I'm playing Paigow or Blackjack, I'm generally playing for entertainment, so if the dealer deals well or is fun to talk to, I'll tip. Dealing actually requires some skill, not only do you have to know the rules but you also have to move the game at a good pace without loving up the deal. It's underappreciated until a less skilled dealer comes along and can't flick cards out or maybe their arms are too short to grab the chips around the table. But yeah, no one is going to kick you out if you don't tip... but any rulings that are subject to the floor probably won't go your way either.

Worst case scenario, if you gently caress up, and you didn’t ever tip anybody, they might feel less charitable about letting it slide or giving you the benefit of the doubt?

I tip on almost every win over a few bucks. I can see getting stuck in tournament mode and totally forgetting about it though. Once the dealer decides to say gently caress you for a screwup it’s not like you can just give them $30 to have them rule in your favor lol.

I tip on any big pot. Sometimes I get so lost in the game that I initially forget when I end up taking a 500 dollar pot or whatever, but I try to always remember to tip eventually. I dont tip taking small pots, though. Its reserved for a good win on my part. I also tip when leaving the table if I'm up at all.

The only problem I have with tipping is if you're playing like $3/$6 limit your best game is gonna get you maybe $4.50/hr. Tip a buck for every small pot and then add in rake and you're going to slowly bleed out, and that's assuming you're a really good player, which lol I am not. I'd prefer to not tip on small pots and tip $2 instead on big pots but the actual answer is not to play loving $3/$6 limit

In Australia most casinos reach a type of agreement that makes these numbers a matter of public record. This is for Crown Casino in Melbourne, all values are AUD https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/documents/agreements/fwa/ae507680.pdf
