I thought It might might be good to have the traditional thread to complain about losing to 2 outers and whatnot, also I nearly got in trouble for posting a dumb hand in the critique thread. I don't have anything recent that's good so I will open with an old favourite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfRXRJNuMEE

I love the video in the OP. It has some Phil Laak, who I have to say is one of my favorite Poker personalities. Maybe there’s stuff in his personal life I haven’t heard of, but each time I see him he’s just super wholesome, talks but not obnoxiously, and super friendly to the rest of the table. It’s kind of cool to see him doing so well without creating the celebrity personality a lot of other players feel the need to.

A couple times I wore skiing/snowboarding goggles to a table ala Laak - it really tilted the other players.

Picked up second in 1100 person $2 entry tourney this weekend which was nice. My heads up play was unbelievably lovely. Went into heads up behind 9M chips to 22M and it never really got any better. Any recommendations for good heads-up guides?

We got it all in on the flop. I actually thought to myself "well at least they're blocking the 10 they each need!" right before the river. Sadly this river luck is typical for me.

I once lost a ~$2,000 value place jump with A-high flush against the other guy's straight flush that he got on the river after all-in. Would have got 9th in the tournament instead of 10th. That one exploded my mental for like a week.

That said in South Korea at an illegal house game beat someone's K-high flush with a 72-722 full house and busted this guy and doubled up, so that was awesome and hilarious bad beat for the other guy, who flipped out and stormed out screaming something in Korean

edit: Also if you don't all-in every 7-2 hand you get, you're a lil wimp

Lol in my local online group saturday one guy accused me of cheating after I stacked him twice. One time was just flush > low pair(5s) then he rebought and immediately got stacked by me on full house > straight.

A few hands later, I apparently folded some random hand that didn’t connect with the flop when he hit a set and he melted down. Spent an hour chatting with him like dude... If I found a way to hack the app I’d be making way more money etc. after I finally stopped replying to him he’d occasionally say “someone is cheating” Lol.

E: everyone in the group hates the guy but he’s a huge whale that is very very bad at poker so we keep him around.

How did you cheat and how were they cheating?

I knew a young kid named Wallace that was vouched for by another player and got into a private game I played in with a pretty popular radio host in Cleveland. He made the mistake of trying to deck swap but got caught immediately by like 5 people. It was the first time I have ever seen someone literally held by his feet dangling of the roof of this penthouse we played in. They took all the dudes money and split it between all the players in the game. After they scared the poo poo out of him he also got an swift rear end kicking in the parking lot. Never saw the guy again at any other game in town. He completely disappeared off the map.

I also was at a another home game where the guy who was banking one of the cash tables dipped into the bank for a couple of rebuys. He was about to get murdered when he got a shotgun stuffed in his face but they let him go to the atm and get the money. He had the money he just didn’t have it on him so he thought it was ok to do that.

I used to play at an underground* cash game where the guy running it did this all the time. I guess he never lost or the rake always covered what he took because he was never short, but up to this very minute I never really thought about it as being bad or what would have happened if he couldn't pay out. Come to think of it, he would sometimes take money out to buy pizza later in the night too.

Toe tapping like Larry Craig.

My boss and I had a system where one on the other's foot meant we had 1010 or JJ, two taps was QQ KK AA or AK. They put us next to each other so my boss could "translate" (I spoke decent Korean, but no one knew that) and we were both good enough at acting like rubes ("wait you mean I'm not supposed to show my hand every time I fold?"), especially me as the vanilla face foreign sucker. We'd get out of the way of each other if one of us did a one-tap, if one of us had two taps, whoever was playing behind would boost the pot up by raising, reraising, or check raising. If we both had two taps, whoever was in front played the hand. We split the winnings at the end of the night.

Illegal house games in Korea - It was fairly common for people to operate small poker rooms in tiny apartments all around Seoul, usually two or three operating 24-7 until one of them closed down and another sprang up. They brought in dealers and had a big black cloth that hung over the doorway so any cops who knocked and looked in couldn't see what was happening inside, and without a warrant and probably cause, they couldn't come in.

The people we were playing against were also collaborating (any halfway decent poker player could tell who was coordinating pots with whom) and we were all technically criminals at that point anyways. Not to mention every time you'd go to these places, you'd see the same plants every single time. I don't think they were using signs to each other, just getting out of each others' ways. I'd liken it similar to a 3 card monte game, where you have the people working with the monte dealer who stand around winning until a mark comes up and they scam him. The guy who operated the house game in Gangnam that I went to most often later got arrested with another Korean guy I knew from another poker room for running a drug ring that got Adderall pills from the US Army bases and sold them as "Ecstasy" at nightclubs around Seoul, as well as some assault charges relating to it or something. That was a scary time for a while and a lot of the poker rooms shut down for a month and went radio silent.

My biggest leak in terms of money lost? “Press The Button.” Twice I’ve done it now, and twice these aresholes (I’m the real arsehole) have caught me out with a straight, JQ both times. Both times I see them playing for the straight, both times I bet what I think is big enough to put them off without exposing myself, both times they hit it, and click the all-in button, and both times, me knowing absolutely they’ve made their straight, before I have a chance to tell myself, “Stop, you idiot,” I’m already reaching for the call button. And both times I didn’t even have to look at their cards to know what happened. Maybe I’ll learn my lesson this time. Maybe I’ll stop going, “Just press the big degenerate, gifting cash away call button.” I certainly hope so because otherwise I’m doing ok.

I rarely play poker anymore and when I do it's 7 card stud. Funny as I'm great at heads up stud but heads up Holdem I am absolutely horrible at it.

BetOnline had a promo for affiliates in April - was something like top 10 affiliates for signups get invited to a private poker tournament. $500 winner take all. I was one of them.

Ends up only 3 of us end up joining. One of them wasn't even at the table for most of it. The other was the most loosest, passive player I've ever seen in my life.

Like he literally check-called a straight flush, which was the absolute nuts ffs. Was in every single pot etc.

I was playing all wrong against him. Playing aggressive, bluffs etc. Was down from 50k to chips to about 30k way too fast. Literally sat here googling and reminding myself how to play against someone as loose and passive as that.

Was tough trying to be so patient and purely value bet etc. But held strong.

Played live for the first time in like 3 years. Saw alot of regulars from my casino and luckily they're all big losers so even though I'm a scared money baby I turned $200 into $500 in like 4 hours. The games are seven handed which means you spend alot of time playing short since people can't stay in their seat. I hope they never go back to 9.

I forgot how boring 30 hands an hour can be when you're playing tight as hell.

I played in some tournament I got a freeroll to. I have absolutely no clue what was happening with the prize structure, something like winning premium bonus pseudo-rakeback levels for a top 90 (of 150) then a step up for top 30, then final table. Anyway, the only thing that seemed to have cash value was the top two. And I came 2nd, of 151. I absolutely had the luck of the draw the whole way through, but it's my best ever result in any tournament.

As a poo poo poker player this is my crowning moment (worth gently caress all.) After surviving the first wave of bollocks I said I'd be happy with Top 30, after getting to the Top 30 I said final table would be a dream. After that I didn't care but I saw people spilling chips and losing all-ins. Top 3 is where it got serious, and I somehow managed to place second, losing by trips to a pair. Now I've got a €5 entry to a tournament with actual money for it and I presume I'll crash out before it hits 80%.

I had the day off today so decided to try my hand again at a live tourney. Ran good and wound up at the FT for a ICM deal. It took about 6 hours to get to that point and I was surprised how fried I was at the end. Felt way more draining than an online tourney. How on earth do people do this regularly?
