Who here, in this thread, is calling for a popular front with Joe loving Biden? I'm going to vote and campaign for Claudia De La Cruz against him. It helps the quality of discussion if you actually read the arguments you're quoting and replying to.

i like the party, but i gotta be honest, ive never understood the angle on presidential elections

Nothing per se. In fact, social production requires some amount of coordination and rhythm, a fact that Engels was keen to point out precisely when criticizing anarchists.

Amusingly, they accept his argument by way of rejecting time-keeping, but being fundamentally idealist, mistake the concept of abstract time as the thing that itself imposes the order rather than a tool in service to this or that mode of production.

None the less, there is something to the idea that abstract time contributes to commodification and intensification of labor. David Harvey is a good source on this, for one.

Capitalist society encourages us to fetishize time. As an example, there's a large digital clock outside a bank in my town that lists hours and minutes as you'd expect, but also lists seconds. What possible use could the precise second have for someone walking down the street?

Time is socially constructed, and how you perceive or conceive of time depends on the society you live in.

How will we conceive of time in socialist society? Minutes and seconds will continue to have use in many cases, of course, but will they play the same role they do in current society? That remains to be seen.

This brings us back to the poster. Smashing clocks does not change a society, but a different society will have a different relation to time. As so often, anarchists put the cart before the horse.

reminds me of a youtube video i saw once about how medieval peasants hated clocks and they were first set up around trading houses. used to be, people would work a day or two, take a few days off, work another day, and then gently caress off for some random feast day. good gig if you can get if you ask me

I'm getting involved in a new organization for artists and creatives and many of the people involved are anarchists. I suggested to one of the anarchists there that when we have meetings we should have an agenda, a chair with a speaker's list (so that we're not all talking over each other), and we should designate someone to take minutes at each meeting of the decision making assembly. The anarchist was instantly skeptical of my suggestions, saying "Isn't this all a little too heirarchical?"

rip to your former new organization for artists and creatives
