Place your bets
So a guy sold parts of himself in the WSOP as a package and made day 2 of the Millionaire Maker. He busted a day 1b tournament and decided to hop into a $500 mystery bounty at MGM that was set to restart day 2 on the same day as the Millionaire Maker. He has 20% of himself in the mystery bounty. Like 50% of himself in the Millionaire Maker. He's decided to prioritize ...

the mystery bounty :eng99:

He had a thread on twitter asking what he should do and I think he chose the absolute dumbest outcome.

There's no stipulation in their contract that he is only allowed to play tournaments they staked him for? Still makes no sense he chose the mystery bounty

I've always hated this staking poo poo. No real contracts, it's just throwing money away. At least if you are buying stakes! Who was it that sold almost all of themselves and was getting high in their car on a break, cus why not.

Kinda related, hellmuth would get bought into every tournament (turned out, with our ftp money) and try to play multiple simultaneously. I played against his empty stack for a day, would have been nicer if he was on my left instead of my immediate right tho. He'd just swoop in for a couple hands every 2 hours, going all in, hoping to either double up or bust. Just felt like it made our table "who is gonna get a hand against Phil" instead of skill.

The table was super soft and I was able to stay disciplined to exploit it without making waves. Lots of limpers and floaters. All I had to do was stay tight and aggressive while backing off any time someone started to push back a bit. I've never been good at check-raising / re-raising in post-flop action but last night it started to 'click' on when & where to do it and I could tell it would really rattle the other players. I avoided making any really big plays and instead opted to take lots of medium size bites and it really adds up over time while the looser players never really realize what's happening. Now to see if I can keep it up or if this was a fluke :v:

It's day 6 of WSOP main event, anyone watching? Should get down to a reasonable number of tables to look at tomorrow, and final table on friday.

What are folks' favorite ways to stream the event? There's a stream on youtube called "PokerGo" but I don't love it.

also I'm traveling friday so I'll have to watch a recording somewhere

PokerGo is the only way to watch it since they bought the streaming rights. I've kinda zoned out on it this year... Did see a Hellmuth blowup after he called pre with the worst hand, outflopped his opponent then got mad when his opponent made the river. Can't believe this dude won another bracelet this year though.

That was pretty mild by Hellmuth standards. I don't even see what he's bitching about. You checked the flop hoping he'd bet into you. He's right to bet into you on that board with his hand. Those are the risks of trapping with weak hands.

Call with ace/poo poo, then check/call when it hits. Then again on the turn, then again on the river.

I think he spazzes out here sometimes in an attempt to distract everyone from how bad his play actually was. There is a calling station at the table, but it's not the other guy.

Long story short, I got laid off from my job a few months back and I've decided to spend the summer traveling. I ended up in Vegas because I had been everywhere else, it has things to do and a really, really cheap place to stay. I normally don't gamble but I've played poker at home games in the past online on FTP/PS before it was shutdown. Despite not having a job, I limited myself to small bankroll of $300 on $1-2 NL Hold'em Games downtown and I am... winning?

There have been some days I've lost a little or made almost nothing which is really boring after sitting in a casino poker room for hours but the thing is I am not good player but good enough in the sense that I play good cards (good ranges, on position) bet when I probably I have it, raise when I know I have it, fold when I don't have don't have it. It's making me almost nearly $100/h which seems unreal?

Are people still this bad at poker and this willing to lose money? I watched more than one person shove $300+ on 5-5 pre-flop :eyepop: How on earth is this possible with all the free poker YouTube videos? Or am I just getting lucky?

Well, you are running pretty good! So manage your bankroll a bit.

1/2 in vegas is definitely beatable, as long as you make sure you are sitting with a few bad tourists. Not all nitty local grinders. Being expected to tip *every* hand you win eats into your expected winnings big time, but if you are halfway decent and aren't splashing around like crazy you can still have a positive expectation.

you are running hot and your expectation is probably closer to 15-20/hr in the long term. but that doesnt matter too much if you're just gonna hang out for a few months and play for some fun and profit. but also, yes 1/2 is the smallest you can play at the casino so everyones gonna suck at it real bad. so yea, don't spend like the heater is going to continue, don't overextend yourself, and have a fun time. playing tight will probably keep working pretty well assuming you stick to it and dont get bored or tilt. the best games will probably be whichever ones let you buy in for the most.

idk if you plan to only play 1/2 but you need a fair heap of money to play higher so prolly skip that.

Confirmed, I figured there was no way I was that good and I doubt this is something I can consistently do during the week. The majority of my wins are from during the weekends but goddamn I'm still amazed people throw such an insane money around especially when the knowledge of how to play the game is so accessible.

dont worry it's impossible to be that good. that's 50bb/hr which at 20 hands/hr is a winrate of 250bb/100. it just aint happening over more than, idk, 1k hands or so? and you'd be incredibly fortunate to get that for that long

at 1/2? amateurs could prolly pull off $5-10/hr if they're just tight and easily losing if they have any kind of thing that would reduce EV further. drinking, tilt, etc. pros usually claim 20/hr which could be doable by being good and everyone else being bad, but people gotta be really poo poo to give up 50bb/100 to you over a long period of time. deeper buyins helps make the game play bigger, straddles, etc and can bump up whats possible. really just depends on your game quality. weekend in vegas im sure theres plenty of possibilities. i wouldn't worry too much about it though except in the context of expecting to keep winning a ton or blowin money thinkin you're just gonna keep dusting these dudes. just gotta try to play good and either keep it fun and don't really spend a ton of time studying, or shoot for the stars and put a ton of hours into studying if you really think you love the game that much. don't want to be discouraging if you want to go that route but it's gettin pretty tough to win at higher stakes. really just depends on if you fukken love poker and learning about it or you just want to have fun and scoop some cash in your spare time.

it's definitely better during wsop but every idiot tourist plays 1/2 year round so it just depends on what stakes you play

in my experience the deciding factor is always weekends/weekdays. weekends are significantly way more lucrative because the tourists/drunks come to gamble/party. i'm sure if there's some big conference that leaks into the weekday that's also probably profitable.

from what i remember playing cash games at the wsop.... (a decade ago). the games were nice sat/sunday since there was always 1 or 2 soft spots. once mon/tuesday come around everything dries up.

i've never really kept track or anything but summer is obviously good but so is spring break, winter break, when all the college students are off and christmas. but there's always something on: a fight, superbowl weekend, there's sports going on now in vegas... i would be surprised if any weekend was a dead one for vegas. at least pre-covid

Do any other popular casinos like the MGM Grand or Golden Nugget have 1-2 NL Hold'em with an Uncapped Buy-in or No Max? This stipulation is the key... along with other perks like high-hand hour bonuses, etc.

having mixed feelings. i sat down at a table and immediately could tell that the guy to my left was playing extremely LAG-tilty. my immediately instinct was to just walk away and find another table but i decided to just play it out as this guy technically should be easy to exploit. about two hours later he'd managed to lose his stack multiple times, double or triple up multiple times, and cracked both my aces and kings. i ended up walking away down a lot because after he left the table returned to playing "correctly" and i wasn't in the right headspace to attempt grinding it back

i know that having a tilty lag player at your table is long term very profitable but man it is just not fun at all to play against, let alone have them immediately on your left

If he’s relentlessly raising preflop (that’s how I’d see a tilty LAG player playing at live low stakes) then it’s actually ideal to have him on your immediate left rather than being in position against him. You can adopt an extremely profitable limp-reraise strategy preflop that can capture a ton a dead money and make it easy to play postflop. If you were in position against him you’d have no chance to capture any dead money when isolating him.

This strategy requires risk tolerance for sure. You’re going to have to stack off with marginal holdings. But playing against incredibly loose bad players is fun because the correct strategy is to also widen your range so you get to play more hands.

Playing against *good* loose aggressive players sucks but this guy isn’t it.

yup that's exactly what I was doing. I limped aces UTG, he threw in a pretty massive raise, it folded around to me and I reraised to about half of my stack, he called. flop came down 7K7 which was perfect as there was a decent chance he was playing with a Kx. i checked to him and he pushed me all in which i called. he had T7o. for what it's worth i watched him shove all in on the flop with things like bottom pair or complete air as well, so I had to call it

pretty much the same story when he cracked my kings as well. he 4-bet preflop with 75o and drilled the straight. sucks because i had to watch several other players at the table stack him multiple times but i wound up being the one feeding chips to him. its just bad luck and i'm venting a bit

Bettors outraged after DraftKings voids millions in Wyndham Clark bets at Pebble Beach

Short Version. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was canceled on Sunday due to weather but there were rumors that they would probably do this on Saturday. Bettors took to Draft Kings to place bets on Wyndham Clark to win (along with 19-20 pick parlays since the standings were frozen) since they had already played 54 holes which is over the # of holes Draft King says is required for bets to not be void. So tons of people took advantage because DK did not halt betting when it looked like there was a high likelihood of the PGA canceling the tournament Saturday.

So once it was officially canceled, DK retroactively changed their house rules to include a line about

For how much Draft Kings stood to lose, I saw a Tiktok where the guy displayed a bet which was to choose the top 19 places exactly as a parlay. Their $100 bet would pay out $1.86 million dollars.

Of course I think that probably bankrupts them. And they will just wave their hands and say no one reasonable would expect that bet to payout, and our judges just aren't familiar with betting. I wonder if this happened in the UK though, would they be held to paying out?
