I had fun glitches in Sleeping Dogs where I abandoned people and drove to the mission point, having conversations with myself. It still counted as escorting them.
Other times, I would get particularly aggressive drivers trying to kill me and then noticed it was some friendly jacking a car to get to me and causing all sorts of murder.

edit: Maybe those boxes of guns were to put together one AR-15 that uses .50 caliber bullets. They do weigh about 10 boxes according to an informed politician. Topical.

I've seen that behavior with that car and a later mechanic a time or two. The game's AI seems to think the Hermes is a four-door, so Loc was trying to get into the back seat for whatever reason. But there's no back seat door, so he couldn't.

If it makes it any better, I played the original GTA when it was still new. Just calling early as a comparison. I haven't even played a GTA game past San Andreas myself.

San Andreas came out seven years after the original GTA and fourteen years ago now.

That said it's also the fifth main-series game out of seven, so you could describe it either way.

The game has a glitchy hidden reward for bullet resistance I somehow found by getting shot. Just had this message appear on screen during a feature we didn't unlock yet. I don't know if it counts getting shot throughout the game or just the session, but I went in with full armor and extended health, lost all of it in a crossfire, and grabbed the pickups during the mission. It was on the PS2 version and no one else seems to know it exists. Can you check with using full health codes and getting shot up enough times?

I'm a bit wary about using cheat codes because using too many of them can mess up your save file and make missions unwinnable (presumably it should be fine as long as I don't actually save after using them, but I've run into enough weird glitches that I really don't want to risk it) but I'll try to recreate your situation later on and see if I can get the message to trigger.

I have been in very similar situations on this playthrough but haven't seen anything pop up. Maybe I just wasn't getting shot hard enough.

Edit: It might be a better idea to get in touch with someone like Vadim M who knows everything about these games and their data files. If such a message exists in SA, the text string has to be somewhere in the game data. For whatever it's worth, I found a dump containing all of the text in the game, including cut mission dialogue and such, and a Ctrl+F for "bullet" didn't bring up anything relevant. What did the message say, exactly?

I know you can increase your maximum health by doing various things such as running and cycling (and, unless I'm misreading the StrategyWiki page, dying) and the message will say you can take more damage before dying, but that shouldn't happen if you already got the health increase from the ambulance missions.

Episode 7: Madd Dogg's Rhymes

Hey, hey, hey. Whatcha got to say? Apparently, it's "Break into this famous rapper's mansion, shank all of his security guards and steal his rhyme book." Sure, of course we'll do that! That's what friends are for, right?

CORRECTION: You obviously don't fail the mission if you're seen, but you will alert the guards and have to hide because open combat with only a knife (apparently the game won't let you use any of your guns at this point) would probably not go so well.

Also, sorry about the slight interlacing artefacts visible during the dance minigame. The Framemeister is extremely good at deinterlacing 480i and everything looks great 99% of the time, but even it doesn't always catch everything and this game's character animations seem more prone to artefacting for whatever reason.

The odd thing about that beach mission is that the DJ and others have the best SMG in the game. This early, when you can only otherwise get it from one or two spawn points, it can be worthwhile to fail the mission a time or two (by killing everybody) just to get the thing.

Meanwhile, OG Loc's plan seems kind of dumb.

"On Thursday, the home of rap muiscian Madd Dogg was robbed, with several members of his personal security staff killed. The only thing taken was a book containing work by the artist. On Friday, newcomer to the scene OG Loc released an album using writing that Madd Dogg claims is taken directly from the stolen book."

I'm getting the impression that Loc maybe should have stayed in jail a little longer than he did, maybe gotten some counseling or something. He's obviously having trouble making good decisions.

There was only one point in the series where running was turned off and that was the last mission in Vice City. It started a trend where future GTA games will heavily script missions and take away options from the player so they can't simply find creative ways to end missions sooner.

You did a silent kill and that one guy instantly heard and shot you.

That sure sounds like Rockstar. :v: They started with that and then it naturally flowed into long car/wagon rides so you could hear the writers flex their muscles.

This is a late comment but the way the guy says "I'm thirsty" at the end of the introduction cutscene with Cesar is hilarious because it almost sounds ad libbed in how awkward it comes off.

My "favorite" example of this is Three Leaf Clover in GTA IV. You rob a bank in incredibly loud fashion, exit through the front door with a five-star wanted level, and get in a firefight with a bunch of cops. Okay, fine. So, you shoot the cops outside the bank and find yourself next to several empty police cars. You might think, "Hey, I'm a drat good driver, I bet I could evade a five-star wanted level without fighting every cop in Liberty City!" Except the game really wants you to play through this cinematic setpiece mission in which you fight every cop in Liberty City, so you can't steal a car until the game specifically tells you to do so. You press the button, Niko smashes the window and then just stands there thinking about bowling.

Three Leaf Clover is widely considered the best mission in GTA IV.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy about that. Maybe I should've used the silenced pistol, it seems to be more... well, silent.

You know, when I played this as a kid I never quite picked up on what a bunch of pricks the Grove Street gang are. Loc is clearly taking advantage of CJ's attempts at friendship (and his commitment to doing anything to stop him rapping), Ryder is just a whiny, petty rear end in a top hat, Big Smoke is the kind of fast talker that spouts platitudes to drown out just how little he cares about anything, and Sweet is desperately trying to cling to what scraps of power he has left and lashing out at anything that threatens that.
The only people we've met that really seem tolerable are Kendl and Cesar, neither of whom are part of the gang CJ represents.

No wonder he left for the other side of the continent.

Yeah an overarching theme you kinda get is that the gang and life involved are a meat grinder that getting out of is the best thing for anyone involved, staying focused on the gang is what keeps dragging everyone down and making things worse. Sweet never develops past what he is now, someone obsessed with his ideal for his area and always wanting to keep this place his, even when given ways out.

Cj besides being the avatar and being written as basically a doofus that will do anything asked plainly wants to be more then what his brother is and generally just cares about others that help him (and legit remorse over some stuff particularly later with madd dogg). (Ignore that you as the player make him kill indiscriminately and yolo)

That's a little unfair to Sweet. Remember that he lost one brother killed, his other brother took off to the other side of the country, and now his mother's dead and his sister's on the edge of leaving to go with a rival gang. It isn't hard to see where his issues come from.

Yeah, I don't really blame him for having those problems and it's possible he was a lot better a week before the game starts. He's clearly dealing with Some poo poo. But he's also taking it out on his surviving family. You can't come away from his shouting match with Kendl thinking that this is a man you'd follow to the grave.

The PSP had a hard enough time running Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, so trying to squeeze San Andreas onto a handheld was never going to be a realistic option without severely limiting the scope, especially since the PSP used UMDs with far less storage capacity than a dual layer DVD.

Also, by the time Rockstar Leeds finished the PS2 port of Vice City Stories, it was 2007 and they were probably working on Chinatown Wars by then so there simply wouldn't have been enough time for another Stories game.

This LP made me attempt a 100% playthrough of my own, something I've never done before despite having done playthroughs both on the Xbox release and PC.

It's pretty amazing how much optional content they managed to stuff in a single 2004 game, and how much of it isn't advertised at all in-game. Some optional challenges are pointed out to you as you progress through the story, like burglary or valet parking. But stuff like delivery missions, vehicle challenges, triathlon events, the shooting gallery, the boat and bike schools, the freight train missions and most race tournaments? You're not finding out about those until you happen to come across them in-game or read about them somewhere.

I guess there was a reason for all those printed strategy guides back in the day. :unsmith:

Of course, those were often based on pre-release versions and could be outdated by the time the game came out. The San Andreas guide by Bradygames is notorious for straight-up having some of the collectibles in the wrong locations. :eng99:

The boat and bike schools and race tournaments show up on the in-game map, at least.

I'm using the maps on the GTA Fandom Wiki for the collectibles, occasionally consulting a couple of other guides if I need images of the actual locations. There are tons of resources available nowadays.

The next video is processing on YouTube as I post this. I actually rendered this one in 4K, so it'll take a while to process and even longer for the 4K version to appear on YT. I made this post mainly to get the update on a new page. :v:
