Ichiro was incredibly grim about his post baseball life in interviews joking "I'll probably just die" which sounded kind of funny but when you realize he was hazed at a young age to live and breathe baseball it doesn't really sound funny anymore

I would be fine going to a game once vaxxed up and it was limited seating. I think the Mariners are the only team that hasn't announced seating plans yet, which sounds like is more based on King County / City of Seattle stuff.

more falafel please posted:Seattle looks like it may be the best of the retractable roof parks, but in general retractable roofs look like poo poo, at least Milwaukee and Houston do. Seattle's functions more like an Umbrella than a roof, so even when closed it still feels like you're outside. I haven't been to a lot of stadiums yet, but overall my experience has been T-Mobile Park has been the best. Just an overall comfortable experience, a lot of food places inside to choose from, semi-decent entertainment between innings, and good places to eat around the area. It's still hard to beat the Nagoya Dome's burger, beer and fries for 1000 yen though!

Inspector_666 posted:I absolutely love the layout of that stadium. The way the bullpens are built into the concourse rules so hard. That actually wasn't the original design. They modified that a few years back when they decided to turn that entire area into a 21+ area so they could serve hard alcohol. The pitchers absolutely hate it though

Decided to look up how much it would cost for me to "legally" watch the Mariners. So, I live in a condo that has an exclusive agreement with Wave cable. That means no Comcast, no Dish / DirecTV, etc. Let's check streaming providers... so far AT&T is the only one signed with Root, and that's in their Choice package that runs $85 a month. It includes a bunch of other channels I would never watch. How much does Wave cable cost? Well, it's in their "expanded content" pass, so I'd have to pay $35/mo for the base cable package, then on top of that $75 for the expanded content package, which puts me at $100/month to watch them. There's no other way to do it, lmao a loving racket.

I could have sworn Jerry Seinfeld had a spring training at-bat for the Yankees or Mets awhile back. But googling it is coming up with nothing, so maybe I was confusing him with Billy Crystal.

Less high stress miles on that arm and he could have probably kept going for many more years. Given everything I read about Felix he basically put 110% into his pitching no matter the scenario which is probably why he flamed out quicker than we would have liked

Also, it's a bit late but I finally got around to hanging this up in my office: Re-reading about that failed suicide squeeze, I forgot Ron Washington got ejected arguing that pitch, as it it called a ball because he thought it was unfathomable that a batter would pull the bat back like that lmao

MLB could have implemented a system where each team could get a vaccine day and get 2 days off before going on a road trip or something to allow players to get it and recover from the arm soreness/other side effects. Or stagger your doses so not every player is playing with a sore arm at once (this is really easy to do for starting pitchers!). There's tons of ways to make it work.

Unrelated to vaccine posting but since people were talking about MLB blackouts earlier: if any of you have family members with cable / satellite TV packages that contain your RSN that shows your team, if you get their sign in you can watch your team on MLB.tv without having to use a VPN. Its cumbersome and when I used it last it didn't save the password for future use so I had to re-enter it each time but it's better than nothing!

Basically you select your feed, it'll say that you're in a blackout zone and somewhere at that point you can put in the credentials. I did it last season so I can't remember exactly how I did it but I know it's extremely counter-intuitive.

Sports boycotts have worked in the past. Also, the revenue made on an all star weekend is miniscule in the long term especially given that the ASG was gonna take place in a town of 30000 people. And that isn't factoring in the cost of hosting it.

Also if anyone remembers the last time Coors hosted the ASG it was a very good slugfest: https://www.baseball-reference.com/allstar/1998-allstar-game.shtml A-Rod, Roberto Alomar and Bonds hit dingers and there were lots of scoring. I'm all for it again.
