when you get to the ancient night bazaar and black market and go in expecting to find wondrous treasures but it just has the next tier of weapon upgrades and maybe a couple oddball normal items when you do a tournament arc and your guys are all beat to poo poo after a round but the enemies are at full health and magic and effortlessly pwn you, even though they should have also had to fight a grueling round of enemies to get there

In RPGs when mid-level weapons/armor from a shop are so ludicrously expensive that you never actually buy any and just use what you find in combat

Bolverkur posted:buying an expensive weapon or armor in town and finding it immediately in the next dungeon Came here to post this as soon as I saw the thread title. Also hate when games don’t break down what their numbers mean. I don’t need everything explained in super-fine detail but I hate stuff like having one piece of armor with an armor rating of 30, and another with an armor rating of 25 and an enchantment to raise your character’s defense stat by 2, and you have no way to tell if that defense boost balances out or surpasses the lower armor rating. For example.

a Loving Dog posted:long, unskippable animations that play thousands of times throughout a game Repetitive voice lines for every single time you do an action that you will do a thousand times over the course of the game too. Like in Fire Emblem: Three Houses if you shop with Anna instead of the generic merchants you’ll hear her go “iiiis that the one? Thanks a bunch!” every single time you select an item and then confirm that you want to buy it, for each item, and it’s completely burned into my brain.
