Hey, buddy. Want to raise tabletop roleplaying game class consciousness? Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. What's itch.io? itch.io posted:itch.io is an open marketplace for independent digital creators with a focus on independent video games. It’s a platform that enables anyone to sell the content they've created. As a seller you’re in charge of how it’s done: you set the price, you run sales, and you design your pages. It’s never necessary to get votes, likes, or follows to get your content approved, and you can make changes to how you distribute your work as frequently as you like. Are you in the wrong subforum? This is clearly a website for video games. Wait, come back. Just scroll down that left column, and click on Physical Games. Welcome to indie RPG nirvana. You can find free RPGs, you can find cheap RPGs, you can even find more expensive RPGs. The offerings range from well known designers such as the Bakers, John Harper, Bully Pulpit, to many unknowns with great games, and goons sell games there too! This is great, and nothing can possibli go wrong! That's right, now let me take a big swig of water and hold it in my mouth for fifteen minutes while I watch this Dan Olsen video. What (nongoon/nonfamous designer games) are hot on itch.io right now?* *Not guaranteed to stay updated May I interest you in a micro game by Grant Howitt? A deconstruction of Traveller called What's So Cool About Outer Space and related games? Or a genre spanning SciFi toolkit and related games You can also find a lot of supporting content for systems such as Belonging Outside Belonging/No Dice, No Masters, Trophy, or MÖRK BORG. What should I post in this thread? Post about new games that you find that are interesting and what they are like. Also post if you are releasing a roleplaying game or product on itch.io yourself and want to promote it. (But you should probably promote your game in other threads too.) Also tell me more about how to get around itch.io, find good games, and hear about about game jams, so I can add that stuff to the OP. Help! I need assistance designing and marketing my game on itch.io. Here is a great thread for just that! https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3909179 (Coming Soon) Goon Game List

The sheer quantity of games on itch is mind-blowing -- and not just games but game jams, advice documents, SRDs... there's A Lot. Also, as an itch creator, I'd like to say that the absolute best thing you can do for a game on itch that you like is rate it 5 stars. The more 5-star ratings a game gets, the higher it rises in search results -- and even a single 4-or-lower ranking will utterly bury something. Anyway, if you're looking for recommendations here are a few of my favourite things which I don't think can be acquired elsewhere: Beyond the Borderlands is a colourful reimagining of Keep on the Borderlands which I reckon is worth $5 just for the art. Balikbayan is a Belonging-Outside-Belonging game about being Filipino techno-elementals. It's still probably my favourite thing to come out of RPGSEA in the last few years, although Maharlika is also up there. Songs for the Dusk is Blades in the Dark retooled to be about hopeful sci-fantasy. It's still in a sort of 'open beta' phase but it's super-playable already. 99c Chamber of Death is one of those microgame things that itch specialises in, where rapping freestyle makes you a more effective warrior. I don't think I could ever play it, but I appreciate that it exists. And finally this isn't an RPG but if you're looking for a computer dice roller Sophie's Dice is bewilderingly comprehensive. Like, more customisable than anyone is ever likely to need. I think there's even a version you can get for your phone if you want portable.

Itch is also good for resources. Like if you ever need a town map Watabou has you covered, among their set of generators.

If I'm looking at, say, Banned From Argo's product page, I don't see anywhere I can give it a star rating. e: never mind, found it hanging out under my username.

Oh, I just stumbled on an actual kickstarter crowdfunding style campaign. I wasn't aware you could do things in this format on itch.io. https://adamebell.itch.io/reliance-revolution-and-contradiction

Oh hi thread. I like to recommend https://zeshio.itch.io/ and others like it because in addition to RPGs, there are RPG-adjacent things like image assets and such that are chiefly for making neat looking maps, getting art for miniature standees / virtual tokens, and so on. I happen to like the aesthetic that Zeshio provides with the Pixel Hex tiles and if that's part of your own vibe then you should check it out! itch.io is also notable for doing large bundle promotions sometimes for charity purposes for video games and tabletop RPG stuff. If you are interested in exploring a few including the kickstarter like ones (new to me) check out the link here: https://itch.io/bundles
