There’s an annoying bug where if you cancel a room after laying it out because it would bankrupt you, the rooms’ cost never comes off the books. So your AI will constantly scream that you don’t have enough gold.

Pylons posted:

So far I'm wondering if the right play isn't to just put criminal networks everywhere, keep them at level 1, and deal with the lockouts/heat as it comes. Five fully locked out regions is like, 250 heat? The game doesn't even seem to consider that a lot.

Bad idea. Your biggest bottleneck quickly becomes how fast you get new workers in, so sending lots of workers out for piddling returns isn’t going to help you.

Plus, the jump in value from a level 2 criminal network is nuts. There are missions that can give you 300k gold per hour.

The traps will be fine once investigators can get past the front door without going sicko mode.

Only agents that have made it any appreciable distance into my base have been the ones who spawn inside it to begin with.

E: also Medium difficulty is “Easy”. “Easy” is “Game Journalist”.

You don’t need to put distract tags in the cover op, the valets and socialites will do their thing regardless.

Too many distract tags are also a problem because Distract attempts can fail. In which case the investigator will try to liquidate your minion and take a picture of their corpse as evidence of...I dunno.

“AM I BEING DETAINED???”

By the way, Socialites don’t just deal with Tourists. They’ll engage Agents in small talk with maximum prejudice, reducing their Resolve by telling them about their Sonic the Hedgehog OC in excruciating detail.

I have a question has anyone unlocked Spin Doctors and how do you do so. Also how do you get to the third research Tier.

Spin Docs are a side mission, they unlock in the campaign around the same time that the third research tier does. You get the third and fourth tier by unlocking Biologists, the upgraded version of scientists.

How do you unlock Biologists. I am currently on Max mission to kidnap 5 Engineers. But I can't find the final two on the map.

It’s well after that mission.

The game makes you wait a long-rear end time for T3 and 4 research. Get comfortable

Public service announcement: You can use your Doomsday Device freely after it has been introduced and test-fired. Max's gives you a mission in the region you targeted to collect the gold you just created.

Do socialites do anything other than mingle? I made a bunch but they won't staff the tables and won't do that not-quite-a-run jog that the Valets do when picking up bodybags so they feel awful and useless compared to my Valets.

They are better than Valets in that they will actively seek out and harass enemy agents, lowering their Skill and Resolve. Spin Doctors do the same.

You can definitely set your casino to auto-distract. Problem is, agents don’t get set to “ignore” when they leave those zones. So they’ll get into a cycle of entering your base, getting distracted, walking ten feet back into the casino, then wander into the base again...

Eventually a distract attempt will fail and trigger a gunfight.

Make sure you are setting all agents to distract, otherwise it really won’t do poo poo.

I presume it’s that way so you can allow agents into your base if you wish. There are some times you need to let them steal stuff or plant bugs or whatever for missions.

They should take a page from Rimworld and have soldiers dynamite into your base. Right now they often start by shooting up your casino, which...is annoying sure, but doesn’t exactly hinder my evil plans. Unless their goal is to clog my incinerators.

Saboteurs should sneak in wearing cardboard boxes.

The Security Desk has a similar setting to be manned by guards, who do a wayyyyy better job of spotting intruders than your average jumpsuit wearer.

You honestly don’t need a ton of workers. Apart from worker-only buildings like the cafeteria table and using them for schemes, their one unique trait is excavating rooms. Everything else can be done by other minions.

They do make cheap cannon fodder, of course.

Every soundbite feels like the sound director kept yelling “MORE HAM” in-between takes, it owns.

On the subject of pacing/playtesting: there’s an achievement to have 1 billion dollars on your island that’s 100% impossible right now. There isn’t enough space even if you filled every square inch with storage.

Having multiple bases would be pretty neat. Super Agents could actually destroy an entire base like in the movies. You’d have to choose where to deploy your Henchmen and best minions. Imagine running for the Helipad before the self-destruct activates.

Yeah. I think there’s one mission per continent for a grand total of 450,000 bitcoins.

Max can also print gold, consider picking him if you have cash flow problems.

Africa and South America are great for lvl 2 networks. There’s a scheme that only spawns in those areas that gives 300k gold per hour.

Is there any point to having guards/valets once you get mercs/socialites?

Guards can man Security Cameras, and they do a better job of spotting intruders than Workers.

Valets are the only ones who can man the casino items.

Also you need loads of them for promoting/schemes anyway and they’re highly expendable.

Brainwash. It seems like the higher their level, the better minion they will turn into. That might be worth testing.

Also different types of agents become different minions. Soldiers become muscle for sure, haven’t tested the others since I need intel so drat bad.

I think the problem is that Vaults are a low traffic area. Your guys will just trickle in and die in the hundreds if you attack there. I've had a lot better luck just waiting until they reach a high traffic area and then attacking.

It's funny removing all my defenses around my vault made my base more secure.

I put my vault right across the hallway from the main security room. Works great, dunno why you'd do otherwise.

Same with putting your Control Room and Inner Sanctum next to each other, it's a real no-brainer.

Yeah named minions is fun and it sucks that they are always lost on missions.

I would have gone further and given minions the chance to promote into a special class (bodyguards? Ninjas?) if they do something noteworthy. Semi-disposable elite mooks are a classic villain thing.

You need social minions for plots, and if you’re gonna pay social minions you might as well give them something to do.

Useful? Not really. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to let them lounge around the base all day.

Dungeon Maker is a fun mobile game. Just turn on the video game sound effects instead of the weird anime moans from dying heroes, or you are going to get some looks on the subway.
