I don't have a problem with doing that on occasion (and I can think of some "foreign" soccer club names we should be using, but aren't), especially when you are creating a brand new club identity out of thin air, but overwriting an existing identity that has already established some history is another matter altogether. MLS has this thing for constant rebranding which undercuts any attempt to build up a solid historical foundation and identity. It's stupid and counterproductive.
