As we're still on the subject...

multijoe's BiS meat-free meat guide:

Burger - Naked Glory quarter pounders. Very meaty texture, great smoky BBQ taste and half the price of a Beyond burger, both a great substitute and fairly affordable!

Sausage - Richmond meat free sausages or Quorn best of british. There are no great options in this category but these are both passable if you just have to make sausage and mash or something.

Chicken pieces - The Vegan Butcher's What The Cluck. Fantastic meaty texture and cooks well in sauces without disintergrating, a little salty and plain own its own but nearly indistinguishable as a chicken replacement in a spicy meal, have served numerous times to carnivores who couldn't tell the difference.

Mince - Vivera mince. Much the same as the What The Cluck chicken, a little plain but absolutely nails the texture and holds in consistency under prolonged cooking. Use in spicy meals that wouldn't normally be carried by the taste of the meat.

Bacon - This isn't Bacon. Surprisingly good, it doesn't quite nail the sweet-saltiness of real bacon but it's not a bad aproximation and has a good meaty bite to it.

Meatballs - Vegan Butcher's Unbelievaballs. Feel a little over-processed compared to fresh mince meatballs and not quite in the 'can barely tell the difference' category of the mince and chicken, but still pretty good overall.

All exceptionally strong shouts, I endorse this post.

My struggle with vegetarian is how much I miss all the cheap shite.

I don't crave a perfectly medium-rare top sirloin, but lord do I loving crave a Peperami.

The last meat product I ate six and a bit years ago was a peperami, a few days after the birth of my daughter when I was sleep deprived and strung out and ran to the shop for something or other. Saw a peperami, bought it, ate it on the way home and felt very ashamed. Otherwise been vegetarian or vegan since about six months prior to that.

Voted TUSC where available (one council candidate out of three) and also for an Independent who dropped a leaflet round focussing mainly on public transport and cycle paths, and one Labour candidate who is actually good.

Also Lib Dem for PCC because they're married to a friend of mine and it's a bullshit position anyway so who cares?

The momentum in Europe is toward green parties coming out of nowhere. It might be that we could get our entryism in now and seize the green apparatus. It's not a certain bet; there are no certain bets. With the Labour party turbo hosed, though, there's votes and political loyalties not being used that might as well be spent on a punt like this.

Another possibility is for Labour's SCG to splinter into a new party. If this becomes our parliamentary punt, then it leaves options open. If it fails, everybody jumps ship onto the green punt. If the party stays around but a green party surge starts, this vote split is a good bargaining position to demand the greens stay with the proletariat.

Both would be ideal. SCG + Greens with union support. Sitting MPs and councillors, solid ground game, decent finances.

Shame the SCG are such making GBS threads loyal cowards.

The main thing that annoys me is that while the soft left have Rayner and Burnham to choose from there's nobody from the proper left that seems like a leader in waiting. Or even being groomed for the job. And that lack of planning is why RLB crashed and burned.

Burgon is making some noises but I don't see him getting the gig.

Sultana is too young/inexperienced/ethnic/female.

Trickett also seems keen and fits the "anonymous backbencher for decades" Corbyn mould but eeehhhh.

Clive Lewis still feels the most realistic shot right now. SCG member, journalism and TA background for "real world" credibility and connections, vocal supporter of working with other parties to oust the Tories and bring in PR which is of debatable merit but certainly a popular idea. Represents a non-London constituency.

Unfortunately Zarah Sultana would also be booted out, along with Jon Trickett, Ian Lavery and Ed Miliband.
