I just listened to the Trash Future episode on Greensill and gently caress me David Cameron is a moron. Didn't look too closely into it before because I just assumed that David Cameron is corrupt and couldn't be bothered to look into financial aspects and now I find out that Cameron had the same attitude on research for what was essentially a payday lender scheme in places where it makes no sense to have a payday lender. It really is just dogmatic belief that Private = good, public = bad. That's all it is.

Queen boat update https://twitter.com/SamCoatesSky/status/1386652150793703427?s=19 Turns out the reason it keeps getting brought up and never leads to anything is because The Queen doesn't even want the thing and thinks it'll look bad her getting a free yacht at a time when everyone else has to do without.

Lmao Labour are so fuuuuuucked. Utterly doubling down on poo poo politics because poo poo politics is all they know. Labour aren't getting the old vote back. They're retired, own their own homes and completely detached from reality because of our terrible media. They're quite literally isolated from the effects of a Tory government. Even if you pitch entirely to them it's not going to get through because they read in the Daily Mail that Stalinist Labour are going to push bin pick ups to every 4 weeks. At least with Corbyn there was a new generation getting into politics, getting funding and volunteers for the Labour party and actually challenging their boomer parents and the media. Now theres a limbo where the old vote you're chasing will never vote for you and the young vote have been completely disenfranchised from the party. Which is what the Labour Right want tbh. They hated the volunteers, they hated the new members and they hated being accountable to the left. The fact their phony jobs rely on them is something they don't want to face up to and won't until it comes to them. Then they'll blame an ungrateful public.

EvilHawk posted:I don't think the "vaccine bounce" should be downplayed. For the vast majority of the public they are going into this election in the wake of lightening restrictions and mass vaccinations (particularly among the age groups that are more likely to vote in local elections. I'm sure there wasn't any reason for that...). They may be tangibly aware that there were some scandals going on, but gently caress even I am not fully aware of what happened and the media certainly aren't raking the Tories over the coals for it. What the general public (i.e. people who aren't terminally online like us) are aware of is that Boris has opened the pubs up and they can see their friends and families. Of course that would lead people to voting Tory. Counter point to that, there was no vaccine bounce. The Tories are polling exactly where they were polling before and after the vaccine. They're at the same rock solid bed of cunts they're always in. Labour on the other hand have dipped massively.
