I've never listened to it but I'm told that comes up more than enough that if you were hoping for good stuff out of 83 Weeks you'll probably be disappointed.

To play devils advocate, in his podcasts he shares a lot stuff about business side of pro wrestling (like how WCW was making money with syndicated tv shows). So if you in to that, you should find some value in his podcast.

drat, really good start to the season. I've always had a soft spot for Pillman Jr. but this just makes me want to root for him even harder.

Wow, Bix. First K.Rool, then Steve and now SEPHIROTH? Your dream game is real!
The weird thing about the termination notice is that Pillman didn't have much of a need for one. His contract was up April 17, 1996, the story of the termination notice wasn't reported until after he signed with the WWF in June, and there appears to be some disagreement over when it was sent. Meltzer's work has always implied it was in February to get over the ECW debut. Kim Wood suggests in Dark Side that it was days or less before the April 15 humvee wreck. (Ring of Hell does, too, but that may have come from Wood.) Liam O'Rourke's book puts it in the middle, a few days before Uncensored in March, implying it was sort of a compromise to explain Pillman's absence from the main event after he pulled out when he realized the extent of how much it could mess up his gimmick.

If we assume Kim Wood's version—which he may have been telling for over a decade now—is the accurate one since he has an absolute steel trap of a memory, then what would the point have even been? Why would he bother getting a release days before the expiration date? And how much did it get him even if it was earlier? It doesn't seem like he had gotten THAT far in his negotiations yet, after all.

Hearing Junior freak out from the spider was a much needed oasis. Then hearing him talk about reaching out to his terrible mom and mending fences with her. I caught up to this episode on Mother's Day.

EDIT: Clarification.

He's fascinating in that he was connected to a lot of wrestlers and was a fan himself, but never actually was "in" the wrestling business.

So he doesn't have to worry about burning bridges or breaking tradition when he tells stories about how crazy everything was.

I finally listened to Evan and Jason on Renee Paquette's podcast, which means I guess I'm now free to talk about Zandig chasing Evan off of his property, because he told the story on there.

That was an interesting day in Slack.

Kim definitely talks about him getting paid through official channels in reference to it, so he's not confusing the two. As for why? WCW did a lot of wacky things.

"WCW" is definitely the most likely explanation, and it's actually a good reinforcement that Brian's priority was the actual money over his angle.

I'd really like Dave or Wade to clarify when they first got wind of it, though, and if it was just as simple as not reporting it because they already knew they were being worked. (Which is fine! I'd just like to make sure the narrative is as coherent as possible.)

Are they going to do one on XPW and its insanity such as having The Messiah having his thumb legit cut off in a home invasion believed to be ordered by the owner who is quite possibly the sleaziest man in pornography and think of the ground that covers.

The odds of XPW talking heads including noted lovely ref and XPW mark Jonathan Barber and his unpublished book XPW: BLEEDING WAS ONLY HALF THE JOB is greater than 1% so it might be a disaster.

Did Barber actually finish the book?

I'm assuming they were able to get Kaos on the XPW episode, since he's still active in SoCal and runs the Santino Bros school. I'm hoping they managed to find out where Messiah has been hiding for the past couple years, so we get the story of his attack directly from him. Other than those two, I'm not sure who would be available since a lot of the earlier XPW guys are dead. I guess they could get Shane Douglas to talk about the move to Philadelphia and everything at the end of XPW.
