The following is a proposition to the 46th President of the United States of America, Joseph Robinette Biden:

Greetings and salutations, Mr. President. I'm certain that you didn't expect such a massive crisis in Israel to blow up in your lap so soon. What a headache! Israel's prime minister has started the 3rd Intifada in a desperate bid to prevent himself from being thrown in jail for a litany of corruption charges. What a pain! Now you have to do the typical dance of condemning Hamas for engaging in acts of terrorism on Israeli citizens and asserting Israel's "right to defend itself." Bla bla bla yaddy yaddy yadda, we've all been here before.

The real question to be asked is how do we stop this constant cycle of Israel fomenting a reaction of resistance from Palestinians? The most apparent problem is a lack of military parity, and it is this problem which most seems to explain why the IDF is a "military" whereas Hamas is a "terrorist organization." This lack of military parity is also leading to a lack of legitimacy, which compels the United States to always support Israel no matter inconvenient and ulcer inducing it gets.

If we compare the arsenals of the IDF to Hamas then the gulf in power is apparent. The IDF has a smorgasbord of small arms, artillery, f-15 & f-16 strike fighters, attack drones, surveillance drones, surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, guided bombs, APCs, IFVs, tanks, cruisers, destroyers, nuclear submarines & nuclear armed nuclear submarines. A veritable bombastic bonanza. Compared to that Hamas's arsenal is a piddling amount of small arms, mortars, the rare imported anti-tank missile, and the multiple variations of the Qassam unguided rockets.

Simple, elegant, and also completely indiscriminate. The economic conditions in Gaza dictate that the most powerful weapon of resistance Hamas is capable of producing are these unguided rockets launched from man portable racks, which can only be made underground in basements or tunnel complexes away from the prying eyes of the IDF. Once the rockets are up in the air they're susceptible to the effects of windage & weather, which makes them capable of targeting mostly just a generalized area. It's because of this indiscriminate nature that the Qassam rockets are considered "terror weapons" which "target civilians," and are therefore worthy of condemnation. Meanwhile the IDF, thanks to its arsenal of guided weaponry gets the luxury of "carefully choosing its targets" of military value, even if that military target is a 13 story high-rise apartment.

So if the difference between a legitimate state military and an illegitimate "terrorist organization" is the kind of weapons they get to use and how they select their targets then the solution is simple and obvious: give Hamas the Tomahawk missile.

In addition to the handful of Israelis killed by the onslaught of Qassam rockets, a few Israeli-Palestinians have also been killed in the rocket attacks. It's certain that Hamas would not intentionally target Palestinians in its retaliatory strikes, yet the material circumstances give them no choice but to throw the dice and let them fall where they may. Surely if Hamas had the Tomahawk missile, or Predator drones with Hellfire guided missiles, they too would be capable as Israel is of selecting only military targets instead of indiscriminately firing rockets at civilian areas. It'd be simple enough to find the funds for these weapons in the billions of dollars that we already give to Israel so why not make things fair?

By raising the military capabilities of Hamas to parity with the IDF we will reach a state of Mutually Assured Devastation (MAD), which will make the cost of conflict for Israel so high that they won't even think of starting a new one. Just imagine the joys of there no longer being a leash for Netanyahu to tug on at his convenience, or any other Israeli government for that matter.

It's time for the United States to bring Hamas into the 21st century, and protect the citizens of Israel from being unfairly targeted by unguided munitions. By raising the stakes of conflict we can finally dine on the steaks of peace.

also this is basically every time a game introduces "lock-on missiles" that only lock in like within five meters of the aircraft, so you use all of them to bomb ground targets instead

One risk with this plan is Hamas firing a salvo of these Tomahawks unprovoked that exclusively target hospitals, orphanages, and residential towers, leading to a deadly war between the two states that would lead to enormous casualties on both sides that would eclipse all previous casualties in the conflict by several orders of magnitude.

Export variants of US weapons are usually cheaper or not as potent as the stuff the US gets to play with, like the Abrams tanks we sell to Saudi Arabia don't have as much armor as the US military variant. Which is why they keep getting blown up by Houthis. So we could probably just take out the American circuitry that makes them target hospitals and weddings.

Yes, but then Israel would put critical military, intelligence, and government infrastructure underneath hospitals and wedding halls, making them immune to these modified Tomahawks and removing MAD deterrence.

But then the IDF would be using hospital patients & wedding goers as human shields, and only terrorists do that.

There's a risk that some countries would refuse to label the IDF as a terrorist organization, and would continue to supply aid to Israel even as a majority of countries cut all ties with them.
