There was a video recently about the history of antivaxx (primarily concentrating on the assfucks that kicked it off, and the complicit media circus around it) and there's basically two elements to vaccine hesitation. You're always going to have people who are antivaxx, whether just in rhetoric or actually in practice. This number grew way larger than before after bullshit former doctor Wakefield completely made poo poo up. Some of this is due to genuine legitimate distrust of the government/corporation that goes back to how a person or their cultural group has a history of mistreatment. You can't really fight this very well as long as governments aren't actually interested in reparations. The other factor are people who are hesitant for whatever reason. Usually it's just osmosis of antivaxx beliefs through society. It's kind of the typical behavior with people hedging their bets. People who don't obsessively believe in superstitions but still try to avoid things that may bring them bad luck if it's not too inconvenient. They fall to peer pressure and in Canada we're definitely going to see some of that peer pressure coming from how a lot of people in the US have their second dose already. Wakefield's bullshit plunged the UK rate of vaccination temporarily before it recovered in the aftermath of Wakefield being exposed as a complete scam who wanted to make money. Unfortunately the fucker went to the US and peddled his poo poo there.

Trump's racism didn't stop him from making big gains with minorities, some of which were directly targeted by his racist tirades. That sort of thing usually does backfire on the racist.

But then they started being condescending, and then loving the numbers, and then Horgan won the majority and the mask completely fell off. Same. We know that some things are plain better but with her being a teacher it's basically just hitting home that some things just never change.

KingKalamari posted:So, just speaking hypothetically, what countries would one want to escape to if they wanted to flee a far-right uprising? I've heard decent things about Norway and New Zealand... No country is safe from this sort of thing as long as the government remains a slave to capital and wants their population compliant and consuming. And as long as the various police forces around the world don't change, they won't be any real help against the chuds. Counter-protestors are nice and all, especially if they vastly outnumber the chuds but it still comes down to the people in authority taking the side of non-chuds, which is at best a gamble. Money has almost no interest in the common and public good, and as such governments at all levels are usually working against your interests, albeit at varying speeds.
