These things cost money when they happen, but not nearly as much as a 10% it budget increase. The MBAs have done the math, and it says getting hit and smeared in the press but then business and stock price back to normal in 6 months is more cost effective than not getting hit. Customer data is an external problem that only costs token ID theft coverage to solve.

Comrade Blyatlov posted:I'm the wrong person to answer that. I'll link you: So I looked at the railroad bridge (Google Street View) and it has piles (conventional, multi-span steel beam bridge), which is supposed to prevent settling of piers due to flood scour. If the road bridge does not have piles, was subjected to significant flood flow and associated scour, and has subsequently been eroded so much that the pier settled, that thing is proper hosed. I thought the bridge was higher before, which is why I assumed it was an arch.

It was a massive flood. I'm uncertain if it was that same bridge, but one river recorded a flow of 1400m³, up from 10.

If anyone wants context on that and is familiar with the Nashville floods from 2010 (most significant river flooding that I'm familiar with in recent history.....Houston during the hurricane was more lots of rain in a little area with nowhere to go), that was 38 times mean flow. What 2F just intimated is that this was 140 times mean flow. https://waterwatch.usgs.gov/index.php is worth a look for anyone curious about US hydrology or open-channel river hydraulics. e: (edited the Nashville date, I'm guessing the peak flow was up significantly, but I can't find it handy) SquirrelyPSU fucked around with this message at 02:47 on Jun 2, 2021 |

Problem is, the modern gop left those ghouls behind with the exception of the likes of Romney and Collins. He ain't winning a presidential primary and he sure as poo poo doesn't have a likely shot at the Senate in MD now because liberals in this state can't loving stand him anymore and conservatives see him as a betrayer. He's basically a quieter version of Chris Christie but still manages to sit on his own balls with moves like this, moving to expand 495 in Montgomery County despite everyone there saying they don't want it, and his "I wrote in Ronald Reagan for president!" move last year.
